"BUT PRESIDENT SUGGESTS INDUSTRY TRENDS AREN’T FOR EVERYONE WHO ‘PLAYS TO HAVE FUN"

I see the Cryptorot has found fertile grounds for its toxic roots.

I expect the gaming business in general will be most fertile.

Things are going to get even more disgusting pretty soon.

Glad I got to know gaming before the DLC vomit, the day-1 patches that still don't fix a beta, the never really own the game you bought nonsense, the micro-transactions hustle and the Cryptorot ruined it completely.

Was nice knowing ya old friend.

In 2021 we got :

Halo Infinite
Forza Horizon 5
Guardians of the galaxy
Hitman 3
Psychonauts 2
Tales of Arise
Age of Empires 4
The Ascent
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
The Returnal
Deathloop
It takes two
Metroid dread
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
Resident Evil Village
2 Monster Hunter games !

What kind of screwed up person believes 2021 was the worst year in gaming ? What's wrong with you people ?

Let's see...

- Halo, yeah, just another FPS. I played more than a hundred, bored to death of em.
- Forza. Umpteenth car game.
- Guardians of the Galaxy. Umpteenth movie cash grab.
- Hitman 3.6. Not great, not terrible, just because I had never played a Hitman game before...
- Psychonauts. Umpteenth platformer.
- Tales of Arise. Umpteenth weeb ARPG.
- Age of Empires 4. Umpteenth RTS.
- The Ascent. Umpeenth isometric shooter ( played so many of those on older consoles, had my fill ).
- ME - Legendary. Umpteenth low effort remaster cash grab.
- The Returnal. Thought it might be worth a look, but then it turned out to be just another third person action/shooter game.
- Deathloop. Umpteenth FPS game.
- It Takes Two. Actually a tiny wee bit of innovative gameplay here. But I already kind of played that game, it was called Portal 2 coop campaign, or before that The Lost Vikings on SNES. A for effort tho, I might play it in the future, see if it can grab me for more than a hour.
- Metroid Dread. Got bored during the first hour, Super Metroid did it better almost 30 years ago.
- SMW + BF. Umpteenth Mario platformer.
- Zelda Remaster. Umpteenth remaster.
- RE - Village. Umpteenth RE game.
- Monster Hunter. Umpteenth 3rd person adventure/action game.

"What kind of screwed up person believes 2021 was the worst year in gaming ? What's wrong with you people ?"

People with a hippocampus and/or people who've been playing games for way too long and have played it all before dozens if not hundreds of times and are bored to death of the lack of real gameplay innovation.

Missing the 80's/90's and early 2000's golden age... Those were the days of gameplay innovation, something new all the time. Nowadays, they're just reskins/copy paste with minor tweaks to milk $$$ from the newer/younger players.

For people like us, playing FPS game 109, RTS 86 or whatever 201 is, for the most part, not the least bit interesting anymore.

For the record:

Last game that really got my attention and felt kind "fresh" to a limited, but noticeable extent to me was Detroit - Become Human. And that was quite a while ago. I'd like to see more of those and more of at least a modicum of gameplay innovation like this or really any other type of gameplay innovation.

I'm not holding my breath tho, it's so much easier to just market old gameplay to a younger audience and not take risks. It has become a money making business, and they're risk averse. I think this, and the fact that all the lower hanging gameplay innovation fruits have been picked already in the last 40 years, is a big part of why there is a severe drought of innovation in gaming and it has been the case for a while.

Seeing it from that point of view, do you understand now? There's nothing wrong with us, it's just the reality of the situation.

When Dinklage says that audiences were disappointed in the final season because they "wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together", I honestly don't think he's wrong about that. At least, I think that's what the more casual GoT viewers wanted, a happy ending with Jon and Daenerys sharing the throne, riding dragons together. For the more critical GoT fan, there was plenty else to complain about but I honestly do think we are in the (loud) minority.

No one thought there would be a "good ending". Anyone with at least half a brain cell knew it from the start.

And it wasn't just last season, as soon as they ran out of source material ( and/or diverted from it ) somewhere in the 5th season ( altho you could argue that in the case of some characters like Tyrion it began way earlier ) the fanfic nonsense began.

GoT has the characters and character development driving the plot, both in the books and the TV episodes with source material. I read the books, I know...

Once the Dumb and Dumber fanfic got in full swing it did a complete 180, the plot suddenly took the forefront with the characters being driven by it and mangled to the point of being unrecognizable. Pretty much everyone felt something was wrong or at least somewhat off and it got progressively worse until the very end when it turned into a pathetic parody of its former self.

2016: FFXV
2017: FFXIV Stormblood
2019: FFXIV Shadowbringers
2020: FFVII Remake
2021: FFXIV Endwalker
2022: FFVII Remake Part 2
2023: FFXIV Expansion
2024(?): FFXVI

Definitely no lack in Final Fantasy games coming out plus all the ports and the rumored FFIX Remake. Even FFXI is still getting minor updates and is subject to an announcement soon for the 20th anniversary.

So many FF games...

So few good FF games ( none AFAIC ).

The last passable game they released was XII... That was so long ago.

Didn't read the article did you?

Quote: "Surprisingly, the technology promises to be rapidly scalable and deployable: none of the materials used are new in the semiconductor industry, and no new purpose-built tools would be required. But, of course, any initial adoption would be limited, and the researchers believe that their adaptive transistor would be incorporated as an add-on to certain semiconductor designs to take advantage of when needed."

There's no way you two are talking about the same scene. Like another poster above, it seems like you misunderstood what film TFP was referencing? The knife fight scene in John Wick 3 is so well choreographed that it doesn't look choreographed at all. It's spontaneous, fluid, felt real (no superhuman shit going on), and looked awesome. Lots of different camera angles and no stuntmen waiting for their turn (which I hate too). Or maybe you're thinking of the end fight in JW3? That was a little bit of a letdown, but still wasn't bad IMO.

Yeah, just verified, wasn't the library, library was one on one, it was that horror.

Third one wasn't great story wise, but had some of the best fight scenes of any of the three. The knife museum fight, my God, that was awesome. I could just rewatch that one scene all day.

? That's where I disconnected... It was patently obvious they sacrificed the whole scene just because they didn't want any cuts or angle changes to the action.

You can literally see when the actors and stuntmen obviously WAIT for their turn to move all the damn time, the choreographic nature is laid bare in all its flaws. They could've hit Keanu silly on his ass countless, but no, you could see them waiting like dumbasses because the director made a stupid filming decision. I couldn't believe my eyes that they would be so sloppy and insult the intelligence of the audience to that degree. Suspension of disbelief went straight out the window and never came back in.

It was one of the worst if not the worst fight scene I witnessed in the last 20 years of cinema.

I can see the sequel serie skipping forward to the last 3 books... And maybe a movie to wrap it all up.

Or a movie for the 28 years timegap between Babylon's Ashes and Persepolis Rising then a serie wrapping up the story with Persepolis Rising, Tiamat's Wrath and Leviathan Falls.

Either way, seems like our wish is granted.

Same thing here... I was optimistic for the third after the second wasn't bad, but I quickly understood after less than a hour that the 3rd was just for milking $. 4th will probably be the same.

And with that 5.2 GHz all core boost expect incoming scattered brownouts.

Sustained 100% CPU usage, sure, it guzzles power like a drunkard. For gaming... it's surprisingly more efficient than even Zen3 even when disabling E-cores.

For other tasks that don't saturate CPU usage, it sometimes draws with Zen 3, sometimes do worse and sometimes do better.

I was a bit surprised by that too.

I'd be curious to see an Alder Lake vs Zen 3 undervolting contest with Zen 3 in Eco mode and Alder Lake limited to the same power usage as Zen 3 in Eco mode. I suspect Zen 3 would win, but I might be surprised again.

Was a big fan of the original, played it countless times and spent thousands of hours on it.

The remake? Tried it at a friend's. Played until you get Tifa in your party. A big meh. No hook, nothing, pacing felt wrong, there was WAY too much exposition, you get railroaded way too much, game decides when you can run or not and controls are shit during those scenes and to top it all off combat is clunky, repetitive, boring and unintuitive.

That first boss fight was way too long for nothing too. It felt more like grinding a shore than a boss fight. It's like they took the worst of FF12-13 and later combat systems and put them together in an absolutely horrible package. What the hell where they thinking?

Nostalgia pushed me to not give up a few times, but eventually I completely disconnected.
It was that bad.

Glad I got to try it first cause it's definitely a no buy for me.

So many people still miss it nowadays.

But for those who do. It's deeply spiritually profound.

I'll leave it at that.
