As for MMOs or other online only games, the nature of these games inherently prevent your idea of "ownership".

No they don't, quake 3 and unreal touranment called and also warcraft 2 over Kali, we had "online games" back then dumbass, all an "Mmo" is, is an rpg with the server held hostage on the other side of the internet. which was proven with private ultima shards that people played for free on.

Not to mention private wow servers to avoid the sub fee, though outside of popular games most mmo's won't have private servers due to lack of interest from programers/reverse engineers.

So when new games "shut down" forever it will be because of morons like you all.

See what game companies ultimately want here:

Nice rant but missing the point and generally lacking in facts.

You mean your whole post? Almost all modern AAA games no longer release dedicated servers or level editors. #2, steam is drm, and drm means your software is chained to the other side of the internet (uplay, steamworks, etc). AKA it requires you to use steam in order to play multiplayer it has drm. UT2004 and Quake 3 are nothing like modern games that come with in built matchmaking that has servers running at corporate headquarters and cane be 'shut down' at a moments notice, if the multiplayer of the game can be turned off, it's not your game. You're merely renting the game. We saw the same shit with the rise of denuvo and 'checkins'.

>The traditional MMO subscription model is basically dead, which is why almost every MMO has gone F2P.

Is it? Last I checked there's still plenty of mmo's around. F14, Wow is still going and many others. The whole problem with mmo's are the are just drm'd games where the player never gets control of the game, and the industry is overwhelmingly pushing against game ownership as we've seen with quake going 'f2p' aka a game you never own that wants money dumped into it.

So the poor suckers who pay anything for in game currency get the shaft should the company ever decide to "shut down the game". Probably the dumbest thing in all of gaming is that drm'd rpg's (I refuse to call them 'mmo's, that's marketing') is that the corporate worlds quest to kill gamer ownership.

So no any game program that wants money from us that can be 'shut down' or 'disappeared' by the corporate world is against our long term interests.

Renting content in general is stupid.

What do you think MMO's are? Steam's drm? Diablo 3? Starcraft 2? Path of exile? "matchmaking" integration where the server exe is never released? (fall of cybertron and many other games).

This ship flew long ago when people were dumb enough to pay for mmo's the ultimate game you pay for but never own. Once that took off f2p and microtransactions were inevitable since mmo's is where they all got there start.

That small percentage of humanity that enabled league of legends and other f2p games to thrive is what has killed gaming. Doubly so for the MMO player who pays for mounts INSIDE an MMO he/she is already paying for.

Look at the gouging in world of warcraft - they know the average gamer is just bum fuck retarded.

Man you aren't seeing the writing on the wall. Microsofts goal has always been embrace, extend extinguish. Companies are not your friends, the exist at war with their customers and other companies. Basically UWP is the first move to virtual sandboxes and encrypted computing by microsoft. The saw what Valve and MMO/F2P developers did in gaming and want that kind of profits. Basically league of legends, valve newell and asian mmo/f2p devleopers taught the corporate world - take away your customers right to own or control the software and you will profit. Since most people are too stupid to understand how sophisticated corporations are at undermining your rights they are mostly oblivious to the dangers.

The reality is the vast majority of mankind is dumb thats why facebook and snapchat exists. Basically these companies feed off the fact that the average human being on our planet is a grade A fuckin moron.

That's a bizarre critique. Planescape: Torment wasn't exactly super-mechanically-deep. Nearly no loot, extremely limited classes, etc.

No shit, the game is almost 20 plus years old. It was made shortly after baldurs gate using the same gangrene infinity engine. Baldurs gate had the same issue. All the infinity engine games were just vehicles to get the nerd money. They had atrocious combat system and loot and even the designers admitted it. The thing that makes torment was the story that's why its remembered not so much the game elements. Rather the world, characters and story.

Gabe has always taken action to avoid doing the wrong thing or having wrong things done to his customers. Can't really say that about anyone else.

Say what? The man paved the way for online DRM, same with early mmo's like ultima and everquest. Gabe is the asshole king everyone game had steam crapware infested in it. I'd never thought I'd see the day where starcraft 2 and diablo 3 had online drm in them them.

Right now most games are broken and the server/multiplayer code is matchmaking retard bullshit that's held hostage by the game company. So if they can 'shut down' the fucking multiplayer!! So glad unreal tournament and Quake 3 can't be shut down like 90% of modern games.

You shouldn't be annoyed, anyone who supported MMO's and steam this is the natural result of ok'ing online drm. Gamers are so fucking stupid it's hilarious. It first started as a small flame with Ultima online and everquest. Anyone who paid for those DRM'd online rpg's basically paved the way for 'games as a service', aka removal of your rights as a gamer to own, control the game and not have part of it taken hostage on the other side of the internet. When's the last time we got dedicated server exe's and level editors with a modern AAA release?

It's a crazy anomaly though, in the age of Denuvo, for a major release like this to be cracked so quickly.

What's hilarious is far cry primal only sold 300,000 units, so despite being uncracked for 2 years we have overwhelming evidence that if you make a shit game and DRM it perfectly, it won't help your sales. I think in far cry primals case is the game is so bad no one wants to crack it.

I would really like it if AMD finally came up with a competitive PC mainstream CPU. They haven't had any success in that segment (when compared to Intel) since back in the Athlon days. Competition is good.

The problem is compeitition won't solve the performance issue, multi-core was a reaction to the fact processor performance hit a brick wall and multi-core is kludge stop gap solution. Multiple cores only work in certain situations with certain workloads and program types. Processor performance has stalled for about a decade. AMD has been playing catchup since core 2 duo was released and they've basically been slaughtered ever since.

For a CPU that's supposed to come out in less than 50 days there sure isn't a lot of tangible info about it...

It's going to be another bulldozer, let's be honest CPU's have hit a brick wall in terms of performance and AMD was forced to sell their foundry. Basically the process and R&D lead of intel because all that criminal shit Intel did way back in the pentium 4 days starved AMD of funds and profits they needed to sustain themselves R&D. The management of AMD has just been fucking incompetent. Basically AMD is dying a slow death and has been just surviving.

Their acquisition of ATI was just bizarre and caused them to lose focus, basically they are doing what 3Dfx did. 3dfx stopped trying to be just a chip company like nvidia was and bought STB to sell their own branded videocards and ended up trying to do much and losing focus and then 3dfx chips got behind and 3dfx went bankrupt. Basically management tries to do do many things with limited funds and they end up screwing up their company they simply can never pick a god damn direction and stick with it. AMD's problem has been a bad luck /w intels anti competitive tactics + lack of focus. AMD had a chance way back in the day when it was competitive but "free" performance from process nodes shrinks stopped for both intel and amd because of heat/leakage and other problems they didn't totally forsee.

I remember when intel boasted we'd have 10-30ghz cpu's in the future and that was a decade ago. So much for 10Ghz CPU's, it's taken almost a decade to get get an extra 1GHZ or so above 3.4ghz Pentium4's and core 2 duo's.

Yeah, differences of opinions and all, but there's no way to call it bad.

Sorry to tell ya but HR was console trash. It was everything DX was not. The ending of HR and the world of human revolution was just bad, the boss fights were nonsensical and really fucked up the game, the enemies you had to fight were just not interesting in the least.

The directors cut fucked up the game. DX was just not that great a franchise to begin with outside the first game. The DX world didn't feel right in HR at all.

Why the mass appeal?

Newer generations of kids who haven't played the entire history of FPS games. AKA as you age you acquire a massive gaming history and aren't as impressed by new releases while there are newer generations coming in behind that don't have any of that.

You don't need to play ME1 but you should watch the playthrough and skip to the cutscenes. Or watch someone elses "lets play" through the entire game of ME1. ME2 can't truly be appreciated unless you've played ME1. ME2 is still an awesome game. So decide what you want more - if you care about story, you'll want to see ME1. If you don't, just jump into ME2.

The last need for speed was always online and most new titles have internet connection required. They are just rebranded "mmo's". The amount of mmo/f2p and online drm is increasing. Always online drm for all new titles is essentially "cloud gaming". So sad that the average gamer is such a fucking moron.

There isn't, talk about FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS. How about you use that brain and morality to solve actual problems. Where does having girls in videogames fall on the list of worlds most pressing problems?

Reality is your a moralist and a bad one, most people complaining about gender in entertainment are stupid. Just like religious folks and old people claimed rockin roll was the devil and comic books are signs of moral degeneration.

The reality is art is limitless it shouldn't be made to cater to anyone's moral compass.

I don't get this post. Diablo was awesome. So was D2 and it's expansion. D3, not so much.

Action RPG genre is really the action game genre, if you look at combat mechanics of diablo 2 it's really just god of war/3D action game with a fixed camera angle. You check out games like champions of norath for the PS2 or Baldurs gate dark alliance, basically the "ARPG" genre is really just beat-em-up genre /w more limited move sets and fixed camera angle.

I didn't really like torchlight 2 all that much the combat left a lot to be desired, what diablo 2 did is gave classes "moves" like an action or fighting game. I found torchlight 2's classes underwhelming. PoE has good RPG elements but it's combat is a bit weak but it's the best ARPG on the market that tries to capture what diablo 2 did.

Basically Magicka IMHO is the best ARPG on the market, aka it's got great wizard fighting without the loot grind. The fighting in macgicka is just excellent.

Although I have a lot of respect for GOG, I don't think I would back this. I've been burned by a lot of Steam Greenlight games and recently by a couple of EA games sponsored by Greenmangaming. Before that, Star Citizen, Shroud of the Avatar, ArcheAge, Mechwarrior Online to name a few. I'm DONE backing EA/Kickstarter games. I've been burned a few too many times and I only have cold cynicism left in my heart for them.

I hear ya, the whole problem is that developers with the talent didn't get enough funds (planetary annihilation) and the hacks behind descent underground are not the developers of the original descent. All the flameouts really come down to the fact that crowdfunding doesn't raise enough funds to make AAA games. I knew PA would fail because an RTS of that scale traditionally required at least 10 million. PA got 2.5 mill.

Overload is being made by the real descent developers.
