News Comments > CS: GO Gambling Scam
11. Re: CS: GO Gambling Scam Jul 4, 2016, 15:28 theglaze

Valve promotes a gambling atmosphere throughout the game including actual rewards though gameplay. Below is my post from the Blues thread about the lawsuit against Valve a week ago, to provide the context of the CSGO experience as it is today. Valve had created the foundation to which these guys have built money making schemes upon.

There are several elements to CSGO) that create a culture of betting/gambling, and Valve makes money like a casino the whole way...Also, having multiple CSGO accounts means you increase your exposure to possible winnings.

1. Weapon Skin Drops – Random weapon skins will be handed out at the end of every official Valve game mode. These range in value from $0.01 to +$500, every user is guaranteed to receive at least 3 of those drops a week with ‘regular’ play. Anything greater than $1 is very rare, from my experience. Perhaps 1 out of 100 drops. Certain weapon skins can only be acquired this way. These can be sold on the market place.

2. Trade-Up Contracts – You can take 10 skins of similar condition and trade them up for 1 skin of the next condition, which can range in value and rarity.

3. Weapon Cases – Cases can also be dropped at the end of a match, but can only be opened with a $1.99 key bought from Valve. Opening a case will give you 1 skin and is revealed through a slot machine style graphic. Certain weapon skins can only be acquired this way.

4. Spectating – Spectating major tournaments gives you the chance to win items that are special to that tournament, including skins and weapon crates (bigger than cases because each one gives a skin to a certain number of random people in a server, when opened).

5. Tournament Betting - For major tournaments, stickers (which can be applied to guns) were made available for each team and player in the tournament. You then use the skins to wager on match outcomes and player results, essentially betting on the winners, with the chance to win more special skins. Successfully picking one of the top 3 teams for the tournament will also land you a pin which is permanently assigned to the CSGO account and can be displayed to other players.

6. 3rd Party Betting – That’s what this lawsuit is about. As you can see, Valve has created a gambling atmosphere with the game and it’s easy for youth, or anyone really, to jump to these sites for similar betting practices.

We share the road with drivers of all sorts of vehicles, and even when you know someone is in the wrong, escalating things with en entitled sense of "I'm right" is also wrong. Yelling at this woman is going to shed years of bad habits and make her a better driver?

Riders like this often have double standards by speeding, filtering, or lane splitting when they think it's looks 'safe' to them. Dig through that GoPro footage and I bet he's got enough evidence on himself for a fine or charge. But when someone's crosses him,, 'fuck you' for threatening my life.

i'll never understand this attitude, and the video comments are full of them. he had right of way, so he should just let the insufferable cunt bully him out of the way? that's how you perpetuate such cuntish behavior. maybe next time she'll think twice before cutting off someone for no fucking reason. it wouldn't surprise me if she drove like a turtle in normal traffic either.

that's the best part - doing this saves you virtually zero time. this happened to me a few months ago - doing the zipper merge, i let a guy in and the guy behind him divebombs in front of me as well. i pass the prick at the very next light cuz his lane is going slower than mine. literally not worth the danger and stress it causes.

You'll never understand this attitude until you remove emotion from your decision making.

As a motorcycle rider, self-preservation is a responsibility that is truly in your own hands. You "trust" other drivers to a certain extent, but every time I get on the bike, I take the perspective that everyone is trying to kill me. Especially the ignorant drivers who will run you off the road without knowing, and the drivers who selfishly and deliberately do the same thing.

Riding a motorcycle requires devote attention to the road and other drivers, absolute focus from beginning to end of your trip. It is not the place nor the time to think about dinner plans, the fight you just had with your girlfriend, or that upcoming deadline at school or work. You might be able to do that in a car because you have a protective metal cage around you with crumple zones and airbags, but on a motorcycle, the margins for error are much smaller.

That's one of the reasons us motorcycle riders get on the bike. I leave everything in my life in the garage like excess baggage, and I become free of that weight for the next couple hours of riding. It's a form of escape.

If you don't do that, if you don't let everything go and focus on your riding, shit like this happens:

https://www.facebook.com/linda.leverty/videos/10205116074820635/

It doesn't matter that the driver of the truck is in the "wrong" with an improperly stored item on his trailer. The motorcycle rider has to react to save his own life.

Going back to this video we're all talking about, again, it doesn't matter who has right-of-way. The motorcycle rider was smart enough to foresee the issue, make an adjustment, and avoid the initial contact. Good for him.

My issue is with STANDING his ground against a car (1), him YELLING at a woman while riding his bike (2), tailgating a truck he CANNOT see around (3), and escalating the situation by MAINTAINING close proximity to the car (4)...those four decisions are ones HE made after the "close call"

Those EMOTIONAL decisions actually put his bike and himself in greater risk to be harmed than the original 'whose going to yield' incident he had with the woman driver.

And that's why I'm more pissed off at him than the car driver. And why I often find these videos of motorcycle entitlement, of 'oh look how bad this OTHER driver is, look at THEIR mistakes' to showcase as much ignorance and poor prospective from the rider.

As for the Valve / CSGO case, is THAT why the game is always a top seller? I had no clue there was a gambling subculture for it. The kid suing is now an adult, who is basically mad that he gambled and lost. He wouldn't have pushed for the case if he gambled and WON. It's not Valve's responsibility to police OTHER websites, especially if they're based in countries other than the US where they're based out of. The site may or may not have asked if he was 18. If it did, he lied. Hey, kiddo, time to learn real world consequences. I wonder how much he lost that he's trying to sue Valve, though.

The mystery hero brawl game mode should be available all the time. This is the one that randomly selects your character at start and when you die. It's great for forcing people to learn more than just 4-5 characters. It's unbalanced but still fun for learning the game.

Agreed,.

Wow. 16 whole hours? Rolleyes2

You haven't played enough to collect all (half? a quarter?) of the weapons (250+, launched with 21) or even play 10 minutes on all 90+ maps (launched with 6).

Do you really think you have a solid grasp on the depth of gameplay in TF2 and how it has changed over the last 9 years?

Steam didn't track hours way back then...

Blah blah blah, tick rate. Blah blah blah, freesync/g-sync! Blah blah blah, input lag. Blah blah blah, blah!

I was one of the first people to get a GTX 1080 (6/6) and I've maintained a presence on some forums and the NVIDIA sub-reddit. All you hear is how you need a 144 Hz+ monitor to compete in Overwatch, but then that it's shitty since the tick-rate is 20 Hz, but then the competitive mode (PTR) is 64! V-sync and even fastsync lags! Gotta have g-sync!

F this noise. Overwatch isn't competitive. It's for posers who want to pretend they're competitive. The entire thing is a mockery of skill. What WoW did for the MMORPG industry (and I mean that in a bad way), Overwatch is doing to the "competitive" FPS genre. Whole new level of toxic, indeed; it will make the WoW forums look downright civil.

Overwatch is the iOS to TF2's Android. Choose wisely.

Mockery because it has too many layers of gameplay?

Because the map designs usually have 3 or 4 ways to each objective?

Because the short round times reward fast thinking and quick adjustments to overcome the opponents defensive/offensive strategy?

Because ultimates used individually at high skill levels are almost completely ineffective and require coordinated tactics with a team to be successful?

Oh, maybe it's because you listen to people on subreddits. Heads up, you sound like one of the asshats from such subreddits. Actually I guess you are one...

The hitboxes in this game make launch day BF4 look like CS:GO LAN. It's hilarious that 1) TF2 exists for free and is superior in every way and 2) people will pay almost AAA price for a busted, half-baked, 10 years too late title.

But hey, it's Blizzard, so I guess the masses of idiots will just throw money at them.

TF2 is as different to Overwatch as CSGO is to Battlefield. And before you think 'yeah TF2 is better...' perhaps you should also remind yourself how barebones TF2 was at launch, compared to what has become of it.

My experience has been the opposite with Overwatch, few people using voice comm at all, for good or evil.

Either way I'm sure the system Blizzard puts in place will be better than what Valve or EA has been able to do.

Sochi and COTA were also terrible when they first made it, mainly because they have to make the digital track before the real one is finished. Subsequent versions were vastly improved.

CSGO Release Notes: "On Valve official servers, the current map will be excluded from the vote options at the end of a match."

OMG!

I have been asking for that for soooooo dammmnnnn looooong. CS is not all about de_dust2 or cs_office, there are many more maps that need to be played and learnt in order to understand the metagame of Counter-Strike. The revotes on dust2 are ridiculous, have always been ridiculous, and it's about time Valve is forcing players to play the other 90% of the content they've created for the players.

Same thing goes for weapons; the arsenal is remarkably balanced compared to what it use to be. SMG's have a distinct close/mid-range advantage over rifles., and shotguns even more so. Dust2 is such a rifle driven map, I wonder if people will also explore more weapons now that it wouldn't be played 50% of the time in public games.

I for one cannot wait for this title. I will not however be doing the season pass as I have in the past. Very bitter on those wasted $.

There is something about the progression system in BF games that I totally dig.

You mean the progression system that should have been used in Battlefront?

Sorry after Hardlines and Battlefront (and personally not a huge fan of WW games) there is no way in hell.

Bad Company 2 had the best system:

  • Level 1 through 50 with XP totals per lvl increasing exponentially its no "pres

  • Main, class only weapons/items were only unlocked after several hours of gameplay, making you appreciate what you got and no prestige ranks

  • Some of the best weapons were unlocked after +20 hours of gameplay with a class, which gave those weapons 'rarity' on the battlefield, but individual skill and tactic still exceeded any weapon advantage

The SLI/Crossife link doesn't work for me.

I've SLI'ed a couple setups because it wasn't possible (at the time) to push a 1080p 120hz monitor with a single video card. Now the top end monitor is 1440p @ 144Hz, and guess what, I think that needs 2x 1070 too! I haven't really experimented with G-SYNC, so I can't comment on what the gaming experience is like jumping between Hz and FPS speeds, but certainly a single card has more options now to provide smooth playback.

Overwatch, btw, runs amazingly well in SLI, one of the best experiences I've ever had with significant FPS gains.

[Edit] And that's the power of SLI, I'm running 2x670, now 4 generations old, and I can push the latest Bliixard creation at max speeds and quality. I bought these suckers years ago...

Maybe for consoles, but most PC players would have played some sort of team based shooter like TF2 or CS.

Also, given how matchmaking is skill based, consistently being matched with players who "only know casual gameplay and are newbs with first-person-shooter dynamics" would mean you're just as bad as they are.

I only played the open beta and was paired against opponents that were lvl 20 when I was lvl 3. It was 6 straight matches even with re-queues. Didn't seem like intelligent match making that used skill, level, or overall play time...but hey it was just the beta.

I can do the same speakers on a PC, using the same TV as a monitor, with even better graphics, more gameplay options, and aim significantly better with a mouse than the most elite console players. If you're trying to argue the merits of a console vs PC, you will lose everytime.

I was just sharing the console experience because most people here are PC users. Calm down.
