News Comments > Overwatch Tick Rate Increasing

I'm not an expert on this at all, but 1000ms/63 ticks is 15ms. Does that mean we will need a 15ms ping to the server or we will have lost ticks? If so, that's pretty aggressive I think!

I suppose you could think of it that way

With the server gathering data at a more frequent rate, there should be less disconnect between what you see on your screen and the input you make, and what the server records and updates to the other players in the server.

Kill cam's reveal a lot, and I think Roadhog's hook is a perfect example. You may be running and clear a wall by a significant margin, but you get hooked and dragged back as if you were in the open. When you see the kill cam, you get hooked earlier than you did on your screen, and if you could see your opponents screen, you may have been on their screen the entire time.

Blizzard was confident that the algorithms and interpolation of player movement was good enough to overcome any tic rate disadvantage. Looks like they're tossing in the towel on it.

I know at high levels against good players in competitive, EVERYONE moves like a butterfly, randomized movement that challenges not only your aim but the server's ability to accurately place a player in a fair/real-time position.

I enjoyed Doom 3, a lot. And I'm not interested in the twitch pace of the DOOM reboot.

I found the art style and lighting to be visually appealing, and their horror spin struck me as entertaining, with the slower pace and less enemies acceptable considering the atmosphere they created.

2004 was a very busy year for the FPS genre, and I think Doom 3 held its own and differentiated from the competition. Here's what it was up against that year, including multiplayer-only and console-only titles:

Half-Life 2
Halo 2
Painkiller
Unreal Tournament 2004
Battlefield Vietnam
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault
Far Cry
Counter-Strike: Source
Tribes: Vengeance
Star Wars: Battlefront
Metroid Prime 2
Killzone

It's as if they've added a sprinkle of Worms weaponry! Will probably take a few updates until they achieve a decent balance in power-ups.

I'm concerned that cheating will increase now that the rewards are announced. I hover around the cusp of the big CPs payouts, 80 to 200.

Maybe that's why the announced this and Diablo new season at the same time: don't like the restrictive OVerwatch loot and ranking systems? Go back to Diablo, it's waiting for you!

All sound advice. And I will stress:
Data backups!
There are no "solutions" when malicious software encrypts your files, besides paying the bastards. The only option is to wipe the infected computer/server and reload your data, assuming you've retained a copy of the data that is NOT infected. Nightly backups don't matter if you find or do something about the ransomware a week later and no longer have a clean copy to work with.

There are a few solutions for ransomeware and more are being continually developed. At least one decryptor requires that your point to one encrypted file and one not encrypted file, like a word doc you emailed before the ransomeware was installed. The others can crack it standalone.
https://noransom.kaspersky.com/

Interesting! I've used Kaspersky in the past but didn't know they've developed some decrypt solutions for the common/simple ransomwares out there. Thanks for the info.

The day is here, Valve is changing the main weapons in CSGO for good.

Personally, I think the full spray impact to accuracy should happen at the 4th or 5th bullet, instead of the 6th. But I welcome anything that kills the perceived advantage players have to crouch spray until they're out of bullets or the target is dead.

Wow...that EVGA chassis is a monster! Well over 40 pounds before any computer components are installed.

It's hilariously large too, only kitchen appliances are bigger in most peoples homes, besides a TV.

I let my laptop update to Win10, it's only a couple years old but I wanted to try out the new OS and was interested in the 'automatic' upgrade experience.

It was terrible. Even though it's lightly used, I had app issues and the OS itself was running very sluggish, waiting 2 -3 times longer for things to open and process.

After a full wipe and fresh install, it runs super smooth with no issues.

Makes me wonder how many other free upgrade users, who don't know how to format and install an OS, are stuck on machines limping through a poorly but automatically updated Win10.

What's the point of:

Intel i7 6950X?
Razer Blade?
Ferrari 488 GTB?

Why make nice things that push boundaries of size and performance to challenge the competition and sell shit to rich people, or high-tech businesses that can make use of cutting edge technology for an advantage?

That said, the dynamic lighting on this table looks fantastic.

Re-matches!

I wish more multiplayer games had this. If you have a really close match, win or loss, and think that you can do better...everyone can vote for a re-match! There have been several times where I've played with the same (random) people in +3 consecutive matches as we traded wins, goals, epic saves, and sorrow from one game to the next.

Lots of fun

Don't blame the tool!

Lots of people are only comfortable with certain heroes, and they try to fit a round peg in a square hole.

Overwatch is compelling because of the diversity in hero abilities and teamwork potential. But it's a complex system, with many variables, and knowing what hero(es) to pick as a team or to compliment your teammates is difficult. Even if you select the right hero to fix the dilemma the team is confronting (stuck pushing a cart, can't stop an offense, struggling to take a point, etc), you still have to be proficient with that hero to make a positive difference.

It's not often the hero that should be blamed, it's the learning curve of rock-paper-scissors and players struggling to grasp that.

HiFiMAN Edition X Planar Magnetic Headphones on techPowerUp.

So, the reviews on this made them sound awesome. So I looked them up. $1800!!! WTF???

High-quality media is required to truely stretch the legs on high-quality headphones.

If you listen to music through a mainstream streaming service, there are lots of headphones priced under $150 that will be adequate.

But if you've got the cash, I've heard the HiFiMAN planar mag's before, and even on the low-end of their product lineup they sound both amazing and different to normal headphone designs. There are other manufactures that produce planar mag headphones but there aren't many models priced below $500, and all require an amp for proper sound reproduction.

i experience this issue, it's very frustrating. Also when I leave my vive plugged in the HDMI, sometimes when rebooting the computer, it doesn't display on my monitor (displayport), and instead I assume it's projecting my desktop to the vive, which isnt' supposed to happen (shouldn't detect it as an extended monitor).

ALSO

on my 144hz 1440p monitor, when using the desktop, THE THING FLASHES ALL THE TIME. like CRAZY ARTIFACTS. I've since discovered that this is happening to many people with the 1440p 144hz monitors and the GTX 1080. There's a workaround, changing screen refresh to something other than 144hz, then changing it back fixes it. but you have to do it every time you reboot. Apparently it's a driver issue. One that people also experienced with the 980 ti which has still gone UNFIXED.

Anyone who says that AMD has shit drivers has truely never owned an nvidia card. my 980 and now 1080 are fucking headaches to deal with.

Nowadays I don't see many people saying that about AMD drivers to be honest (Crossfire support and GameReady delayed drivers aside..) . Nvidia driver quality took imo a massive nosedive ever since the 3xx series of drivers. I've had driver issues after issues... and that flickering... well yeah, known since the 980ti.. absolutely insane that this is not fixed yet.

even worse is that these drivers imo introduce far more issues than they fix. Especially with older games.

I've had issues with both manufacturers, but found there to be more work arounds and faster releases of quick fixes from nvidia than ati.

But yeah, I'd be pissed if I bought into their hype about the 1080 being the best cards on the market for VR support when a month after release there are major issues...

News Comments > CS: GO Gambling Scam
11. Re: CS: GO Gambling Scam Jul 4, 2016, 15:28 theglaze

Valve promotes a gambling atmosphere throughout the game including actual rewards though gameplay. Below is my post from the Blues thread about the lawsuit against Valve a week ago, to provide the context of the CSGO experience as it is today. Valve had created the foundation to which these guys have built money making schemes upon.

There are several elements to CSGO) that create a culture of betting/gambling, and Valve makes money like a casino the whole way...Also, having multiple CSGO accounts means you increase your exposure to possible winnings.

1. Weapon Skin Drops – Random weapon skins will be handed out at the end of every official Valve game mode. These range in value from $0.01 to +$500, every user is guaranteed to receive at least 3 of those drops a week with ‘regular’ play. Anything greater than $1 is very rare, from my experience. Perhaps 1 out of 100 drops. Certain weapon skins can only be acquired this way. These can be sold on the market place.

2. Trade-Up Contracts – You can take 10 skins of similar condition and trade them up for 1 skin of the next condition, which can range in value and rarity.

3. Weapon Cases – Cases can also be dropped at the end of a match, but can only be opened with a $1.99 key bought from Valve. Opening a case will give you 1 skin and is revealed through a slot machine style graphic. Certain weapon skins can only be acquired this way.

4. Spectating – Spectating major tournaments gives you the chance to win items that are special to that tournament, including skins and weapon crates (bigger than cases because each one gives a skin to a certain number of random people in a server, when opened).

5. Tournament Betting - For major tournaments, stickers (which can be applied to guns) were made available for each team and player in the tournament. You then use the skins to wager on match outcomes and player results, essentially betting on the winners, with the chance to win more special skins. Successfully picking one of the top 3 teams for the tournament will also land you a pin which is permanently assigned to the CSGO account and can be displayed to other players.

6. 3rd Party Betting – That’s what this lawsuit is about. As you can see, Valve has created a gambling atmosphere with the game and it’s easy for youth, or anyone really, to jump to these sites for similar betting practices.

We share the road with drivers of all sorts of vehicles, and even when you know someone is in the wrong, escalating things with en entitled sense of "I'm right" is also wrong. Yelling at this woman is going to shed years of bad habits and make her a better driver?

Riders like this often have double standards by speeding, filtering, or lane splitting when they think it's looks 'safe' to them. Dig through that GoPro footage and I bet he's got enough evidence on himself for a fine or charge. But when someone's crosses him,, 'fuck you' for threatening my life.

i'll never understand this attitude, and the video comments are full of them. he had right of way, so he should just let the insufferable cunt bully him out of the way? that's how you perpetuate such cuntish behavior. maybe next time she'll think twice before cutting off someone for no fucking reason. it wouldn't surprise me if she drove like a turtle in normal traffic either.

that's the best part - doing this saves you virtually zero time. this happened to me a few months ago - doing the zipper merge, i let a guy in and the guy behind him divebombs in front of me as well. i pass the prick at the very next light cuz his lane is going slower than mine. literally not worth the danger and stress it causes.

You'll never understand this attitude until you remove emotion from your decision making.

As a motorcycle rider, self-preservation is a responsibility that is truly in your own hands. You "trust" other drivers to a certain extent, but every time I get on the bike, I take the perspective that everyone is trying to kill me. Especially the ignorant drivers who will run you off the road without knowing, and the drivers who selfishly and deliberately do the same thing.

Riding a motorcycle requires devote attention to the road and other drivers, absolute focus from beginning to end of your trip. It is not the place nor the time to think about dinner plans, the fight you just had with your girlfriend, or that upcoming deadline at school or work. You might be able to do that in a car because you have a protective metal cage around you with crumple zones and airbags, but on a motorcycle, the margins for error are much smaller.

That's one of the reasons us motorcycle riders get on the bike. I leave everything in my life in the garage like excess baggage, and I become free of that weight for the next couple hours of riding. It's a form of escape.

If you don't do that, if you don't let everything go and focus on your riding, shit like this happens:

https://www.facebook.com/linda.leverty/videos/10205116074820635/

It doesn't matter that the driver of the truck is in the "wrong" with an improperly stored item on his trailer. The motorcycle rider has to react to save his own life.

Going back to this video we're all talking about, again, it doesn't matter who has right-of-way. The motorcycle rider was smart enough to foresee the issue, make an adjustment, and avoid the initial contact. Good for him.

My issue is with STANDING his ground against a car (1), him YELLING at a woman while riding his bike (2), tailgating a truck he CANNOT see around (3), and escalating the situation by MAINTAINING close proximity to the car (4)...those four decisions are ones HE made after the "close call"

Those EMOTIONAL decisions actually put his bike and himself in greater risk to be harmed than the original 'whose going to yield' incident he had with the woman driver.

And that's why I'm more pissed off at him than the car driver. And why I often find these videos of motorcycle entitlement, of 'oh look how bad this OTHER driver is, look at THEIR mistakes' to showcase as much ignorance and poor prospective from the rider.
