sounds like the dude needs a holiday
When I saw the headline I was confused because I have only just heard of it this week coming to steam in May. i.e., it hasnt been released yet, why complain about sales. Then I learnt it was a playstation exclusive and lost a lot of sympathy. Then I watched a few reviews which were all medium to bad... That means lower initial sales, but you can catch up with good dev support, discounts and good PR, Product Sales 101. Im sure he worked his butt off, and I wish always that hard work meant good rewards. I understand the stress but he is now sabotaging future chances for the product to succeed, and himself. Who would hire/work with a guy who does this.
With the game launching on PC soon, a proven huge marketplace, why would any sane person create some more bad P.R. If he actually believed in the product, stand by it. Promote it like launch day. hell, pay a youtuber or 2 to do a lets play, add some more content for a directors cut etc. do interviews complementing your team and your customers who did buy it on playstation etc, promote what has been fixed since launch day that means it is now better than initial reviews. If it is a good product, on PC he could sell millions of copies, more than the sales on playstation potentially.
