Torchlight 2 had a lot going right with it on paper, in terms of bringing old Diablo gameplay depth back, but when you played it, it felt like a series of suffocative paths, bizarre loading screens where there shouldn't have been any, and retarded cartoon weapons with arbitrary stats.

I have no pity for most people who pre-ordered or bought this game.

It was crystal-clear from its inception that it's going to be another Spore. There was no "what if". It was just going to be crappy procedural models inside a bland gameplay loop. The more time passed, the clearer that became, to the point where even a dog should've gotten it already. The vague pie-in-the-sky promises, the fuzzy-wuzzy videos with no real gameplay shown...

But I guess there's a sucker born every minute. I feel no pity for any seasoned gamer who bought it, period. The only people I pity, are the clueless teenagers or their moms ordering this game for them. Those are the innocent casualties of Sean Murray's scumbaggery.

That's why we must only stick to corporate/enterprise versions of Windows. Corporations can hurt Microsoft, after it hurts their profits with their dysfunctional OS, and so it treads lightly in regard to reckless behavior with them.

That's how many have done it for a long time. I remember there used to be a site which would help one get only the updates you want, until Microsoft killed it. These days there's another WSUS offline option.

Rolling up all the patches can mean problems, splitting them up into security and others could mean more problems. Though it is good to at least split them up into security / other.

Then again Microsoft likes sneaking in other "things" under the guise of security updates, they also like adding patches to flawed security updates in other non-security updates (fun right, only gets better when they do it with this).

Can you imagine they continue that behaviour with this, adding a patch for a security update but that patch is only available in the non-security update, except now to get that one security patch you have to install the entire collection of non-security updates because you can't get them individually.

Nevermind the countless bad and undesirable individual updates. No more avoiding that one/few that causes "this" or "that" system to go into infinite boot loops or a plethora of other problems. With these rollups there apparently also won't be an option to remove just one of the updates included, would have to remove the whole pack..

From what I see on Steam forums, this is total and utter shit. Lazy port with shitty voiceovers, missing Atomic Edition content...

Better off grabbing Duke3D Atomic data files and using eduke32.

Underrail is made by a guy who really liked Fallout, but decided to focus on the combat and neglect the story/world aliveness elements.

Unfortunately it's very hard to fully replicate the full scope of a Fallout1/2-style game without having a team of 20 people and a huge budget.

Underrail plays more like an isometric dungeon crawler with TB combat.

Basically, one needs to kill auto-updating. And then there should be someone on the Internet who makes a batch file for uninstalling shitty/spyware updates.

So you install a "cumulative" patch, and then run this batch file to make sure you are "clean".

Now there's a game that needs to be remade.

Please, no. It will get consolized and ruined.

It was pretty arcadish to begin with.

It was based on Mechwarrior 2 simulation engine, which was created by a man who wrote such engines for the flight sims used by the military.

It was unrealistic, sure, but that doesn't make a game arcadish.

News Comments > Tribes Ascend Parting Gifts Patch
10. Re: Tribes Ascend Parting Gifts Patch Sep 29, 2016, 19:07 shiho

I've been playing this game since beta, before finally giving up a few months ago.

It was doing so many things right at the start. And then it stalled. And failed us - again and again.

One of their bigger blunders, which nobody seems to remember is that after release, they made the game unplayable on 32-bit systems. This is back when 32-bit OSes were still a huge chunk of the playerbase. Yes, this game is what, 4+ years old now?

So for about 6 months of constant crashing, 32-bit OS users were basically driven off. This happened because they kept pushing new skins and weapons into the game with zero regard for optimization.

Then, there was their horrible netcode, which is far worse than original Tribes' netcode. It was never fixed. The user community created TAMods, which is a memory inject that allows for many customizations never present in the game, AND fixes a glaring netcode-related flaw with displaying of bullet positions in the game. Indirectly, of course.

For years, there existed hacks which let you reveal other people's hitboxes. Some hackers got into the servers, and managed to teleport other players into the sky.

Choyseung (sp?) was the pre-TAMods hacker who implemented this fix, known as "magic chain", as well as a fix to the fact that Nova Colt firing rate was PING-DEPENDENT.

Then, there are their horrible non-dedicated servers. One day you have 23 ping and it feels like 23 ping, another day it says 23 and feels like 80.

There is no pre-tick lag compensation in the netcode. It is very simplistic, not robust at all in its error correction and movement interpolation, and caves to the slightest imperfections in connections.

Quake Wars had a solid netcode. This game is the complete opposite.

The game was lacking in completeness as a Tribes game from the start (no real indoor environments, the indoor/gen defense play became irrelevant, forcefields and mines almost useless). Then after a long long time of doing nothing, in the end of 2015 they released a patch which fixed some of the exploits, improved some of the balance (INFs stopped being gods, for instance), and destroyed what fun remained in the base game, by stripping it further of features.

It neutered mines and forcefields and turrets even further. Vehicles became free, because they removed the point accumulation system which worked just fine. People who are good at turtling-ADADing in the middle of the field became super annoying because they HiRez removed artillery strikes as well.

Since then they've changed some minor things in this patch. This last patch balances out the autos a bit better, so people can't have a hitscan gun and a chaingun at the same time.

Yay.

The game remains neutered however. That's because that big end-of-2015 patch was created based on feedback of hardcore competitive duelers or whatever, who stripped the game down to being Call of Duty with mortars and jetpacks.

Watching the videos of the D44M soundtrack guy was depressing. He always starts off with a fair imitation of the original track. He builds on to it a little bit, and I think, "so far pretty great!"... and then he completely destroys it and makes it sound like rubbing sandpaper on your ears.

Doom 2016 "soundtrack" is basically white noise, stripped of the melodic content.

THIS is what a modern take on Doom soundtrack is supposed to sound like:

No, I saw it. You changed your mind after reading it, and decided to interpret it in a way that makes you feel superior.

You still started to get offended at the article based on the headline, which is clearly satirical. Great that you got it after reading it, but that you didn't get it from the headline...

Possibly the cutest attempt at Hannibal Lectoring I've seen in the past year. Ah, to be young again.

Pac-Man becoming Pac-Mao is just a small part of it.

There is a weird tendency amongst some to call any article written to be goofy and fun "clickbait." I'm not surprised you're amongst those people.

There's a weird tendency among some to not read a post beyond the first 9 words. But I won't make any assumptions about you and will assume it was an accident.

One of the most frightening things I've seen, is a grown man on a bicycle, riding right next to traffic in Downtown, with some kind of "seat" on the back with two toddlers strapped into it.

I will buy this game in hopes that it places a hobo at every Walgreens, Safeway, bus stop, street corner and parking meter, so I can laud the accuracy with which it simulates my city.
