STD is one show that should've been canceled after the pilot. Long live The Orville, a.k.a. the real Star Trek.

"History teaches us that [...] people love to believe they are intrinsically better, and somebody else is intrinsically worse, regardless of whatever else is going on in their lives."

Finally you're beginning to understand the core of political correctness . It has become a dangerous religious cult of virtue-signaling due to its appeal to vanity, and the young are most susceptible to it.

Thus, vapid cries of "racism" have replaced the middle-ages cries of "heretic", before someone got burned at the stake.

This is how the Google engineer got fired - their religious dogma went against the science, actual evidence-supported, solid science that he used in his essay.

This country is now in full 1984 mode. You're just not on the side you think you are.

The irony of that Oatmeal cartoon is that the author's own core belief is boldly and prominently featured, and if this self-aggrandizing fantasy of enlightement and transcendence is challenged, he's going to screech just like the "7.5 billion" of humans who have supposedly failed to reach his evolutional apex.

Seems like a case of too little to late. With all the fantastic shooters we've seen since Dirty Bombs release I don't seen anyone going back to it. The most hardcore fans will continue to play it, but being a pretty good shooter doesn't cut it when you have a number of fantastic shooters out there.

Fantastic shooters? Asides from Overwatch, what other "fantastic shooters" are out there?

Okay -- if you bought the game straight out of the gate, yeah it might have been tough to get $60 worth of gaming out of D3. But if you waited a bit... then it was pretty easy to get at least that much out of it.

Was it everything, everyone was hoping for? Nope. It never could have been. And this commentary by Jay Wilson illustrates one of the reasons why it never could.

I've installed it several times since then, including a few months ago. Shit's still all retarded.

The only one using labels here is you, hence the irony. You posted a link to an article that links to other behavioural research articles to reinforce a belief, sorry your belief, but it does no such thing. It doesn't label people, it doesn't judge, it simply states that older people tend to be more conservative. I don't see anyone being labeled a biggot, or a Nazi or whatever. It doesn't stop you from judging it did. Thats fine, most people judge according to what they believe. You feel threatened, and you resort to hyperbole. But that's also fine.

Oh I read it, and I read it thoroughly. DID YOU? The fact that you're absolutely and totally blind to the bigotry in the article is what's frightening. It is so imprinted in you that you don't even register it as a red flag.

First of all, the article paints a strawman target of what "conservatism" is. It certainly does not represent me as a conservative, or any other conservative I know.

It associates this faux notion of conservatism with broadly painted personal traits, such as being "slower", "more rigid", "less open to new experiences".

Then, it proceeds to use studies which support the fact that people are "slower", "more rigid" and "less open to experiences" with age (DUH), therefore it draws conclusions that they are more "conservative" in the strawman definition of the term.

What is insinuated in this article is that conservatism is product of old age and the associated -mental decline-, and liberalism is a trait of the young people who are open to new experiences, creative and enterpreneural (his words, not mine), and prone to anti-conformist attitudes.

Oh wait, Trump the political outsider, the wildcard, the non-PC, insult-throwing rabble-rouser, the definition of a disruptive rebellious candidate, got 20000 people on his rallies, and destroyed the other candidates. Talk about anti-conformist.

If this article was any indication, we "conservatives" (sigh), would've overwhelmingly propped up Jeb Bush. DOES NOT COMPUTE.

And what of young enterpreneural, creative conservatives who LIKE scuba diving and other adrenal experiences? How does that fit this horrendous series of cliches?

What about the distinction between cultural conservatives and fiscal conservatives? Why does this article pretend to be scientific when it paints a caricature of both parties?

The truth is, the article is mirroring the propaganda that was done to us Pioneers in the Soviet Union. We the young ones are the future, and the shit we're brainwashed with, is the ideology of the future. The "old guard" are untermensch.

Open your eyes, people. If you see nothing wrong with this article, then you're simply on the same wavelength of bigotry as its author.

Former KGB agent Bezmenov described what my former country has done to your country since the 1960s. Unfortunately we now see the fruits of this process. A whole self-supporting ecosystem of lies and destructive beliefs. You should heed the advice from those of us who lived in totalitarian regimes, because you are not immune to this shit at all, and it has you now.

It pains me to see how much the demoralization is thriving in America, outliving the USSR itself.

As Bezmenov said, once the generation has been demoralized, they will ignore any facts presented to them. None of you will even finish watching that 5-minute video, because your programming will resist it violently. Oh, the cynicism boiling up inside you within the first 15 seconds of looking at that "clueless old fart", the sharp comebacks.

There will be more tragically misplaced ridicule in this thread. If it was an exchange between me and one other person, I would've bothered, but that's not what happens on these forums. So I'm leaving this discussion behind once again.

Oh, the irony is strong with this one.

No, it is not. I specifically iterated in the post that I don't think people who fall for this propaganda (aka Democrats currently) are inherently stupid.

I can separate the people and their mental capacity, from their conditioning.

I could say "Democrats are dumb", as an insult/joke maybe, but I would not post in serious fashion these articles about the so-called "opposition", insinuating that they are inherently mentally inferior.

You know, like that "Conservatives are inherently gullible" article, or bigoted shit like this:

(^^^ apparently we are not enterpreneural, not creative, don't take risks, and love totalitarianism)

If these sentiments of mine strike you as silly, you need to research on how totalitarian governments manipulate people. Bigotry is how it starts. You're the ubermensch, they're the untermensch. Once a group of people is declared subhuman, it's easier to discard them.

Like I said, beware of ANY ideology which CONDITIONS you to, in your heart of hearts, even remotely start entertaining the idea of labeling millions of people as feebleminded. Not merely misinformed - but inherently mentally inferior to yourself.

Again with "both sides do it."

Here's a guy who actually writes fake news for a living:

During the run-up to the presidential election, fake news really took off. "It was just anybody with a blog can get on there and find a big, huge Facebook group of kind of rabid Trump supporters just waiting to eat up this red meat that they're about to get served," Coler says. "It caused an explosion in the number of sites. I mean, my gosh, the number of just fake accounts on Facebook exploded during the Trump election."

Coler says his writers have tried to write fake news for liberals but they just never take the bait.

The definition of irony is a fake news article talking about fake news articles. That Coler guy is a Democrat, which automatically gives his "fair and balanced comparisons" zero credibility. You want to have real science? Real science requires large sample sizes and a completely impartial source.

Frankly, one of the reasons why I am scared of modern "Democrats", is this particular elitist undercurrent. They're very keen on spreading THIS kind of "fake news" - Facebook articles on how much more mentally superior they all are. Bigoted articles on how conservatism is for old people, "Buzzfeed research" on how more Conservatives click on "fake news"... 'cuz they're inherently dumb, see?

To that I have to say - if 20th century taught us anything - BEWARE of an ideology which conditions you to label millions of people as "feebleminded".

There's been at least two in the 20th century, and I've had the "privilege" of being raised in one of them. We were the Soviet "Pioneers" - the new, progressive generation, wiser, more humane and vigilant than "those old guard".

The Germans in 1930s weren't stupid. The Soviets weren't stupid. The Chinese and the Cubans weren't stupid. They all fell for this shit.

It's just that people never change. They don't get "better" - but they do get easily programmed by being hit right into their vanity, something that lets them confirm their inherent superiority. And they just don't see it coming, because the ideology wears a slightly different face than earlier in history.

Down with them conservative stupid fascist misogynist racist xenophobic rednecks! Yeah! Let's demonize the opposition, paint them with bold, uniform colors as subhuman pigs!

Seeing this kind of REAL, dangerous bigotry on my FB feed is what alarms me greatly. Modern Democrats who tow this line, need a long hard moment of introspection.

Except for the 70 billion or so spent on television commercials, your comment is completely true and not pompous at all!

Traditional TV is going extinct. That's why there is now a shitton of product placement inside the TV shows, as well as giant half-the-screen animated banners obscuring the screen after commercial breaks.

Because commercials are cut out by Internet pirates, but placement and banners cannot be, so even when pirated, the shows still reach some kind of ad audience.

I tried to read that article and it was both confusing and pompous. AdBlock was a blessing to the Internet poisoned with ads, some of which contain exploits.

Paywalls are garbage too.

Learn to integrate ads into your content, Internet. Product placement. TV has done it, radio shows have done it. It's the only chance you have.

Not always. When JMS mapped the full five seasons of Babylon 5 it was great. Well, except for the fact that the network gave up on it and made him cut it short. But having story arcs that cover entire seasons or entire series can be a strong plus. Another good example is Star Trek DS9. Excellent long story arcs that really tied the show together over seven seasons.

Season 3 of Babylon 5 was one of the best things I've seen on television. The rest were not so good. Season 1 was an atrocity.

Both DS9 and Babylon 5 were very drawn out shows with lots of filler. DS9 didn't even get good until season 3.

Westworld is a meandering tale which loses its focus 85% of the time. Very much LOST. They mapped out 5 seasons already, which is always a bad sign, and always results in tons of filler, which this show mostly consists of.

"Humans" is a better show, which better develops similar concepts.

So you want to grind the midgame instead? Now I'm wondering if you actually even played D2. The only thing you could do to advance in D2 after you finished Nightmare was the "end game" of act 4/5. The only mobs that dropped any meaningful items were the bosses.

You are the one asking for more randomization so you can keep playing the game ad infinitum. You don't need perfectly random dungeons unless your intention is to grind the game forever...

You're intentionally mixing the idea of "playing the game" with "grinding". One of those terms involves actual enjoyment. That way of playing the game is clearly alien to you. You're not used to having fun. Which would explain why you're so blind to deficiencies in Diablo3 which take said fun out of it.

It all makes sense!

Actually, no. That allows more people to be able to play the game, which is the goal of all games. No one cares how cool you think you are that you can figure games out on your own.

Reductio ad absurdum. What I was talking about is a game that teaches you without straitjacketing you into a separate "tutorial". That does not mean it's somehow harder to learn. It IS however, a superior design, which is harder to DESIGN. Requires more THINKING, is all.

There are class specific items all throughout the game. You literally have no idea what you are talking about.

Did they remove the part where my plain old axe changes my magic powers? If they have not, then you know exactly what I am talking about. This retardation cannot stand in an AAA title. Those non-mage items should've been replaced with mage-specific items.

Yeah, this complaint is just mind numbing. You like that they added "re-speccing" but somehow think that means they also removed "builds". It's clear now that you have absolutely no idea how D3 actually plays and just ride the hate train with petty semantic complaints. Good times.

I got up to level 26 or so before the boredom became intolerable. I always felt alone, even in company of other players - something that rarely happened in D2. The kills didn't feel like they had any impact. The game was ugly, washed out, generic, and creatively bankrupt.

Oh, and there's a reason why there are builds in RPGs/ARPGs, and why you can't just mess with your builds with no penalty whatsoever. It's one of those things... gameplay things... that you clearly won't understand.

All in all, to quote a far better Blizzard title... take us into orbit, Mr. Malmsteen. I've seen enough.
