Just an FYI, I've been in Closed Beta through Open Beta. I spent money on their crowd funding.
It is alright, but I will say with all honesty, the balance is definite joke. Where they tried to curb stuff from other Mech Warrior games, they completely fucked up other things like the heat system and how certain weapons and equipment function. If you're a Battle Tech fan, some of the stuff they did makes you go, "wtf?"
In any case, as far as comparing it with WoT, the only comparison there is that they use a similar F2P model, sort of similar game modes, but other than that its what you would 'expect' a Mech Warrior game to be. The Mech Lab, however is VERY well done/programmed. It also comes with a problem like other past Mech Games, full customization causing balance issues. Games like MPBT 3025 and the mod MW:LL hardly had those problems.
So I guess the bottom line is that, yes, the game has problems, especially with balance and adhering way too much to the original 'board game' damage specifications. They also have really bad idea's concerning weapons like "MG's" "Flamers" and "LB-X" guns that were better in other Mech Warrior games, but totally useless in MWO. Basically if they don't start thinking outside the box and fix a bunch of gameplay problems, the player population will dwindle. Most people aren't even concerned with them adding new content.
