I wish I shared your confidence. Bronze age goat-herders with AK-47s fought the US military to a stalemate over the course of 20 fruitless years in Afghanistan. The RAND Corporation rates naval surface warfare near mainland China as being a Chinese advantage, and naval surface warfare farther from mainland China as being US-China parity. "China" fairly routinely kicks our ass in US military simulations of a conventional military conflict between the two powers. Meanwhile, COVID has thoroughly overwhelmed the US federal government's capacity to deal with it, while other developed nations are largely returning to normalcy. Like the hapless Federation in Verhoeven's Starship Troopers, we're collectively getting our asses kicked on all the major problems facing our society, and no amount of "USA NUMBER 1!!!" jingoism will reverse our decline in the metrics where we used to be, but are no longer, the best.
Thanks for using reliable sources to back up your factual claims.

The United States wouldn't know what hit them if they were ever in a war with China, I guess nobody around here remembers Korea or Vietnam.

.. or, apparently, the U.S. helping China save itself from Japan, a tiny ass island that caused a bit of a ruckus around them there parts onced 'pon a time. Go Flying Tigers! </salute>

I don't like the esthetics. This won't be a day one buy for me. It reminds me of ELEX -- the weird hybrid of future and past technology -- and my brain just thinks it's dumb

Not at all have I convinced myself that I won't like it, though, but I'll wait for the usual reviewers I trust (Worth a Buy, Skill Up, that's about it).

Having played ELEX and HZD (including the expansion), I can tell you that HZD is a far superior product. The controls are smoother. <SNIP Lotsa stuff>

How ef'n fortuitous this thread, as I've only 'just' recently GoG'd Elex and my lvl 30 'zerker Jax is now tooling about a chapter 3 Magalan. I loved the Gothic series through Night of the Raven and when GoG threw Elex out there for way too cheap I pulled the trigger, being a fan of earlier janky Piranha Bytes offerings. Thanks for the heads up/early adopter info on HZD!

Eating used coffee grounds may help cut waistlines, researchers say.

This is bullshit. The "Coffeeground Diet" is fake news. I eat these all the time, but I haven't lost any weight. I cut mine with whip cream and honey to make it go down easier.

So I'm not the only one calling BS, then. Tried it myself, lost nothing. I did enjoy the bowls of ice cream I poured those coffee grounds over, tho.

I wish those assholes would stop fucking around with that sort of thing. If you don't know exactly what the negative long term ramifications might be don't do it. "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Plants in a controlled environment aka "a lab". Not like they wanted to seed that thing anywhere in the first place. It's simply legitimate preliminary exploratory research for possible useful and controlled applications, not terraforming.

Talk about a textbook example of a slippery slope logical fallacy .

Sometimes I think you hate on science because of ideological reasons, but never attribute to malice what you can attribute to something else so *shrugs*.

Monsanto would like a word with you concerning a possible position within the firms' PR department. For my part, I too wish that assholes with degrees had used more discretion than they have shown to date as regards what 'can' be done. A little more heart wouldn't hurt, either. Where the hell has people's sense of self-preservation gone these days?!
