What is it with pooping in people's driveways? There was that "mad pooper" lady over the summer, now this? I do not understand humanity sometimes.

Okay I admit I didn't click thru but that headline made me laugh. That's pretty funny. Orwell meets Survivor.

I timeshifted The Orville and caught thurs nights offering last night, and they totally nailed this headline with their story of a planet living like a social media experiment gone awry.

Life imitating art can be funny sometimes, but this just looks like humanity's jumping more than a few sharks at once.

That's a lot of assumptions but I can't say I disagree with any of them.

I do find myself wondering if that is only because I am desperately hoping that they are in fact actively trying to find a way to salvage the Mass Effect series rather than just shitcan it...or worse...double down on it's current direction.

The Star Wars prequels didn't destroy the IP, but it sure made a lot of fans angry with Lucas. Andromeda has its share of fandom and staying power. Taking the property back and giving it to Hudson, who can then drive the game to a fifth iteration and trilogy opener, will bode well for the series.

... Prequels, you say? Sorry, no.. rings no bells here.

I don't think any high intelligence would put "mass genocide" on it's to-do list... at least not intentionally and unprovoked. So there is that.
Actually, this is part of the problem. There is no reason to believe any created intelligence would share our values. Unless we somehow manage to integrate them, which when you actually think about it, isn't an easy thing to do. So, if you suddenly have something which thinks much faster than you, but has no morals or sense of right and wrong.... well, the problems are obvious.

Also, the larger bugbear in the room is glossed over by many: weaponized versions. There isn't a single person in here I'm willing to bet that would bet against other nations approaching the question of A.I. with a more militant glint in their eyes, and while knowing this, isn't safe in assuming that 'our' government isn't at work doing the same at this moment. Lets be real here tho, as with many inventions that have come our way, a great many had been known, worked on, and used by militaries the world over, ours included, before being released to the public.

It's that aspect I'm more concerned with. Just how far along are we in actuality that we aren't in a position to know due to our non/low-security clearances. And the kind of people with their hands on the trigger of this particular tool for exporting democracy and improving our lives have shown something of a consistency as regards to actual usage of new tools regarding the war-fighting environment.

It's not only A.I.'s morals and sense of right and wrong we have to worry about, humans still being pretty broken in those aspects at this time, themselves.

Much better even in beta than the old MechAssault games.

Do you mean MechCommander? Comparing to MechAssault seems about as relevant as comparing to... I don't know, the card game. Either of the old Crescent Hawk games would be a closer match.
Yes sir. MechCommander, not Assault. Too many games, too much time. The old Crescent Hawks Revenge series was a lot of fun though.

I have my Infocom box of Battletech: Crescent Hawks Inception in the bookcase nearby next to all the Mechwarrior cases. Much love for the genre. Still waiting for a Battletech/Mechwarrior MMO with Great Houses vying for control of galaxy and Lostech caches, Inner Sphere and Clans going for one anothers' throats, merc outfits selling services filling whatever slot their warfighting specialities cover within a total Space / Air / Land war environment.

Cain't be more'n a couple more decades o' waitin', right? Dare to dream.

It's the militaries that will develop the truly scary/evil AI and that will certainly be outside the scope of regulation. It will be the same entities you want to regulate who will develop the worst types of AI.

Shall. We. Play. A. Game?

Mr. McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks.

While I'm looking for a few games to buy on sale during the event (Both Dishonored games and Doom 4) I think GOG beat Steam already. I bought about a ton of games on GOG this month during their sale and I think I barely hit $20.

I even finally managed to get Dragon's Dogma for 11.99, which was a steal. I even got two games for free out of it.

GOG tore it up this summer.

And how much are the two Dishonored games and Doom 4 on GOG?

Apples and oranges.

To be fair, it's not the latest stuff we're looking for when we hit the Good OLD Games site.

Keep in mind this vampire game is NOT the one that gets updated all the time. This is the really old one before that.

Yeah, it's the better one.

Opinions will differ of course, but I liked this 4 player party one over the solo Bloodlines.

Yea, well.. that's just like, your opinion, man.

Not arguing, I love both, but came to the first years after many many many ..<breath>.. many run throughs of Bloodlines before coming across GoG's release of Redemption. The linearity of the game threw me off at first, but I did enjoy Christof's travails across History in his attempt at saving his Anezka, and have definitely enjoyed the trip.

To tell the truth, I don't have a favorite between the two. Both of them attacked the World of Darkness from a different angle, and left me wanting more. One point for me in Bloodlines favor is that soundtrack, having brought to my attention Lacuna Coil, Darling Violetta, Chiasm and others. The games music directory has found a place on my .mp3 players since.

And that Wesp! Damn, that's some dedication to a 'dead' (see what I did there?) game these many years later. Good on ya, man, and thanks.

Damn if they didn't lay it out on that one. Corey, Vernon and the others were part of my personal soundtrack at the time, but yea, the tune works to describe these days quite well and would fit Pres. Trump perfectly as a theme song when he moves about.

Are you me? I was just about to post this very thought-line, after glancing at my Falcon 4.0 3-ring binder'd manual next to my Art of the Kill video and booklet. I 'LOVE' games with a depth greater than spilled milk on the floor that required the keyboard shortcut cards we 'used' to get in games back in the day that covered the bajillion combinations needed to get our birds in the air; mechs out of the bay, or help our Avatars thread their way through Britannia.

Getting old and remembering things that actually 'were' better back in the day isn't the way it's supposed to work, is it?

P.S.: Screw .pdf manuals with a red hot poker.

EDIT: Was meant as reply to Satoru's comment.
