It's also worth noting that they will be relocating their NA server farm from the west coast to Chicago in about a week. The intent is to normalize pings across NA instead of having a 90+ms difference.

Man....I really wish they would make a QPong mode for TF2. I don't know how many LAN parties I hosted that devolved into chaotic QPong matches at 4am.

Yeah, I don't get the vitriol surrounding the combat. I think it's fine. I feel like most people saying it sucks are just jumping on the fucking dipshit bandwagon that clueless Mack from Worth-A-Buy started.
Or maybe the combat really is a weak point in the game? It feels mushy, imprecise, and lacks challenge. If I had played it after Skyrim came out, it would have felt...decent. But after having played Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and SoMordor.....the combat in TW3 is very disappointing.

Fingers crossed they make it a Netflix series rather than a movie. Oliphant should be onboard....that is the same character that he's played in half the productions he's been a part of.

Never got very far in D:OS. Tried twice alone and once multiplayer. It just felt very aimless and all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to play on rails, but I at least like some kind of clue as to what I'm supposed to do when solving a murder. And if that consists of wandering around talking to every NPC, cow and cat in a town....I'm afraid I have a backlog of more entertaining titles better suited to my time.

You fat little bastards need to get out of youur parents basements. Get some excercise. Try actually speaking to a female. Jesus, and people wonder why you kids are tubs of lard.
You know Cutter, I never blocked you because at one time you actually made some really good posts, but I don't know if I've seen one in months. I don't know what has happened in your life that has pushed you over into a nothing but troll zone....but I really miss the posts that were intelligent (while also scathing). Lately you just come off as a very unhappy person who can neither adapt to the world around them or appreciate how lucky they are to be there. Hope things look up for you at some point...

When you don't have to put your body through a grueling exercise to show your physically better than the average Joe and compete at the high level physically in whatever sport your doing, your not an athlete.

Any nerd can pick up a mouse and keyboard and be physically the same. ....
I agree totally about the term e-sports or referring to a pro as an 'athlete'. Video games aren't sports in the classic sense and most gamers aren't athletes.

That said, you should look into what the real pros actually go through on a regular basis to compete at the top level of some of the games currently popular. Many of those guys spend as much or more time working on their mechanics, theorycrafting, and teamwork than quite a few classic pro athletes. They also generally have a much shorter shelf life due to burnout of twitch reflexes by the time you're in your mid twenties.

Wow. This is hilarious. Video game geeks throwing stones at progress.

It was just a few years ago that curmudgeons were howling about them stupid kids and their viddya games being the downfall of western civilization.

I don't know whether to laugh or just pity you.

Last time I played WoW (years ago...werewolf expansion, mebbe?) it had become a romper room where I was led by the hand and was only allowed to have a handful of quests because more than that would be too much for my wee brain. Is it still that way or did they continue the downward trend?

Well worth $20. Unless you're not into having fun and would prefer to be curmudgeonly. Low entry point....high skill cap. Great to play regardless of the level of competition.

In regards to the license: Microsoft still owns all DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT rights of Mechwarrior and Battletech. Both in Trademark and Copyright. IGP (or Infinite Games Publishing, the original publisher of MWO) transferred their commercial license right (they paid Microsoft for) to PGI before or just after folding. So now PGI is a direct licensee developer, rather than going through IGP.

Any other company can do the same and become a licensee of the property and develop games, however PGI is pretty notorious for not wanting to share even a fraction of the community, a la being threatened by MWLL's expanding features and basically told the devs to shut it down or "else".

So what you are saying is that regardless of the Kickstarter this is not going to happen?
I don't think that PGI purchased the rights beyond the FPSimulator verison of MW. MW:Tactics (now defunct) was a tabletop style game and I'm not sure IGP sold the rights to or if they reverted to Microsoft.

Keep in mind that PGI's Russ Bullock has already tweeted support for Harebrain's new endeavor and has indicated that there is a creative IP sharing agreement already in place for models and artwork. So obviously PGI isn't standing in the way of this one.

And yet clearly you read not one word of what I posted (several posts) about this the last time it came up.
I replied to your posts....they revolved around that the game wasn't fun because you didn't feel like you could play it the way you *wanted to*. The Griffin build you mentioned is viable with a couple of tweaks...even if you don't understand how that is so. I've used that build with a STD engine in solo queue, group queue and once in a tournament....and it was only basic'd. It's not top tier, but it works as a mid/short range brawler. ...and it is all purchasable by Cbills...so not P2W. Essentially, if your performance with a 3rd tier build is horrible, your performance with a top tier build of the same general role will probably not improve by a large margin. Movement, cover, communication, awareness, gunnery, piloting, heat management....its all the same across chassis.

You keep repeating "they backed themselves into a corner by establishing a metagame to make it P2W". And I ask....how? P2W means that by paying money you get a significant advantage over those that do not. The meta has experienced a HUGE change in direction at least three times in the past 18 months. Poptarting, LuRMs, and now pinpoint alphas. None of these are being monetized....I can buy a variant (with Cbills, no real cash) of any number of chassis and make it fit in any of those metas. I conceded that that initial Clan release which was cash only was OP (and thereby P2W)...but that was adjusted into a somewhat balanced state MONTHs ago.

You also say that a contributing factor was that they tried to adhere too closely to TT. How? You make a blanket statement with no real reasoning behind it. Were they adhering to TT too closely when LuRMs were OP or when Poptarting was OP? If they were so close to TT, they how can it be that lights can be very strong in the hands of a capable pilot (unlike TT). Amusingly, this reason is the exact opposite of the complaint that a lot of other disgruntled players have put forth. Personally I would rather see wild crosshair shake during jumpjetting, some during running and only a stable crosshair during standing perfectly still. I'd also like to see something like WoT's expanding crosshair for torso weapons....but those things will never happen.

"out of touch with the general target audience". Laugh. That's a good one. What is that target audience? Your posts indicate that you want a single player game where you can run whatever the hell you want to run and only fight against moving target AIs. That is not this game. That is not MWLL. The last time one of those games came out was Mech Assault 2(I think).....which is best to go unmentioned.

Again, I ask for real examples or reasons and I get the 'feels' response from experience two years ago. sigh. If I wanted that I'd create an account on Pinterest.

TL;DR - It's cool if someone doesn't like anyss game, regardless of their reason. My irritation comes from making outdated claims or ones that aren't backed up with any fact (like P2W claim).

5. Re: MechWarrior Online Global Server Expansion Jul 22, 2015, 15:06 Primalchrome

I've played BT since 90 and played MW since the first one came out in the 80's. I've hosted LAN parties for MW and gone to events. But lets be realistic...it is niche. There was never this encompassing group of folks or league that kept any of those titles running or organized. It was small groups of fans...just like MWO has things like NGNG or RHOD...but at least MWO provides some sort of centralized management.

Population : MWO still has a significant number of players in game. While I agree wholeheartedly that CW is a very shallow experience overall, there is still quite a bit of activity in that mode. My unit has a group dropping CW constantly every evening.....as most do. They don't have any issues getting drops. It is way to cludgy a process for me, so I only drop solo or group queues.

Game modes : Assault, Conquest, Skirmish, CW. Four. Not optimal, but too many modes would dilute MM queues. I agree, VIP would be nice, but convoy escort would be silly and weighted heavily in the favor of the attacker. If you want "banned mechs" or "custom"....join a league and play by those rules. RHOD runs weekly rounds with specific rulesets and they don't seem to have issues with participants.

Competitive PVP : IF that's not what MW is about, why do you list MWLL as a shining example? That's all it and MWO are.

P2W and Grinding : I'm really sick of the "you have to pay money or grind to win". My kid owns with a Jenner. Cheap mech you can buy outright with your cadet bonus. I know of a handful of guys in my unit that are BT fans that have spent hundreds of dollars.....and they are regularly at the bottom of the match standings (but they still have a great time). Experienced players regularly put up great stats with fresh unlevelled chassis...how could they do that without grinding the chassis?

Hardcore BT : Sheesh. Really? My old TT group had a BT campaign that ran weekly for three years solid. It was all about politics, acquisitions, and customization....all through stompy robots. We all played in tournaments at cons where you had to run stock loadouts. So you have a very narrow and defined view of battletech....which is somewhat common and why no game ever will be exactly what the community wants. Because different factions of the community want different things.

MW,MWAOL,MW2,MW3,MW4,Crescent Hawks Revenge,MC,MC2,MA - Rose colored glasses. I had major bitches about EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. Just like I do about MWO. Doesn't change the fact that I had a great time with all of them except MC/MC2. There will never be a perfect game because there isn't a way to bring the game from TT to VG and preserve canon while making a fun/competitive title. (and even if they did, the passionate fanbase would still yell and scream) People don't want to admit that or the fact that they're idealizing memorable experiences that were unique to them.

The game has lost a percentage of the initial fanbase....because there was no way to please them with the game being developed or because of burnout. Hell, I didn't back the game because I didn't have faith in it. I played one day in early beta and promptly uninstalled. But there is still enough people that enjoy getting together with friends and running matches to keep a dev studio pumping out new content both paid and free. It's not what some want...that stinks and I hate that if they don't like MWLL either then they're SOL. It just gets tiring to hear the same bullshit excuses like P2W, 3PV, CW, no one actually plays, etc... Almost everyone that trots these comments out don't play or haven't played in a year (since the IGP buyout specifically). There are SERIOUS issues with the game...but none of those are applicable.

Sigh. The drama queens.

Please, do tell. How exactly did "They fucked up the entire FUCKING IP"? Because they made a game you didn't enjoy? Because you weren't good enough to play competitively in a PvP game? Because you couldnt build your 16 machine gun Wolftrap like you did in tabletop?

The last time this game came up there was much whining about P2W, 3PV, and CW.... Yet none of those folks could provide a single argument/example that had an impact on the current game. It was all about the 'feels'. I'm sorry if someone is hurt and irrational that it isn't what they want/remember, there isn't a single game out there that has been the exact same on the initial drawing board as when it dropped to our hard drives. Old Battletech fans are crusty and rabid about the IP...and that is one of the major hindrances to it becoming a successful video game.

Microwave + leftovers + sprinkled water + damp paper towel = da good eats. Works on most dishes...but some are better reheated in a toaster oven. I usually steam all my veggies either on the stove or in my rice cooker. When I was a kid it seemed like all the veggies were boiled...blech.

Is win/loss the only contributing factor to MMR, or is it supposed to be weighted based off the MMR of your opponents? That's how they do it in League of Legends and DotA2.
