These events are a no-win for everyone. People die and then the media is either sensational or "ignoring it" and not doing the service they're supposed to. |

The no beans thing is crazy. Put some tomatoes and beans in there. It's so stupid. I love the chili recipe but I definitely add beans and either tomatoes or some tomato paste. |

That data is nice and official, but to keep moving up the ages will just delay where you have that initial increase in accidents due to inexperience. |

Driving is more dangerous and unpredictable than flying, and pilots aren't allowed to fly commercially after age 65. |

Certainly it's proportionally higher in the flood plains. I was mainly giving a small perspective that I've seen some floods come out of seemingly nowhere. |

I don't totally agree on flooding being avoidable. A bad enough storm or too much precipitation on the wrong hilly area can create a flood almost anywhere.
Floods are also really scary and dangerous in person. I've seen way too many flash floods here in Pittsburgh. People regularly die in them.
But knowing that weather is the one thing humans will never control, there's some solace in that. |

I have a lodge 13 inch and a smaller one. The 13 is hefty for sure, and hard to hold with one hand. Don't use them too often but they're good for some things. |

I badly stubbed my left index finger two years ago and thought for sure it was broken - it was crooked for a while. The swelling was the worst, but whether it was a bruise or break I'll probably never know. |

Sorry if it's redundant but there's a Defense Grid 2 kickstarter project up - I only gave $10 but that's 10 more than they had before!! |

They're gonna team up with 3D Realms and put Duke in the Star Wars universe. Joe Siegler will tell us all about it with his clear concise and vigorous prose. |

How is that not negligent homicide at least? No malicious intent, no intent to kill, no real motive, no homicide happening, a parents right to choose the course of care for their minor child, no guarantee that mainstream care will produce a better outcome, no homicide, no homicide, and did I mention no homicide? |

I still have to play Crysis Warhead - loved Crysis 1 but agree with Verno about the aliens, that part with the aliens was really long and bad, compared to the rest of that game. |

My neighbors were celebrating their 66th anniv. today, I gave them a ride up the hill so they could walk down for their exercise. The hill is about 40 yards, but that's probably equal to triple the distance at 89 yrs old. |

So what's the best linux? I might try it if I get bored this summer/if Windows 8 really sucks.

Gaming is really the only reason most of us ever use Windows. Speak for yourself Jack! Let's see... games, internet, documents, music, watching videos... yeah I use Windows for everything. I have no interest in fucking with Linux, but can kind of understand the appeal of a free system. The things you mention can be done in Linux just fine. Gaming is where Linux really takes a back seat to windows. That is, games made by big developers run great in Windows and too often either don't work or take a lot of work to run in Wine.
Gaming is what is keeping Windows relevant for a lot of people, me included. They stand to lose a lot if they lose the PC gaming market. I applaud Valve for this Linux push.

Windows XP was good except for the bubbliness, Vista was OK but seemed to run slow on the hardware of the time, 7 is great and well matched for hardware... doubt I'll get 8 within the first year or so. I've heard all the stuff about the skins and mobile Windows and how customizable the interface will be, and that doesn't really apply to me because I have a laptop, desktop and a kindle, so mobile Windows features aren't important to me. For a lot of people, it may make a big difference. But besides the old school complaints about "the kernel", what major improvements could you do for Windows 7? |
