i was utterly captivated the first time i picked up an AvP comic book; these two mysterious and imaginative sci-fi universes converging made for such rich creative potential. before then I had read almost every style of dark horse comic concerning the two creatures. from bizarre, quasi-religious renditions of the nightmarish alien to unreal, emotionally distraught adventures highlighting man's relationship with the beast to gritty, unsettlingly horrific encounters set in 'blue-collar reality'.

and what innovation does mr. paul anderson give us? a predator with a wrist blade 4x as long. but thats not all, u say? they also got a shoulder-mounted cannon 2x as big? oh color me thankful. goddam this shit is so over-the-top that it isn't even scary anymore. thank you very much paul, u unimaginative fuck.

No. Onslaught's weapons and vehicles suck.

put the crack pipe down please.

i have to agree with the earlier post; the vehicle physics in UT2004 are all wrong

wow what a lame festivity captured in that screenshot; in a time when getting laid at a party is as difficult as it is today, i can not even fathom the depths of sexual frustration of those back in the fantasy day with all those freakin minority species to deal with. but hey a hole's a hole, even if she's got a few horns extending from the cranium

I would really enjoy Tribes alot more if it didn't have those damned jet packs. why's that? this has been raised before and some tribe fans here would just like me to shut up, but... the jetpacks seriously marginalize the importance of vehicles. im not saying jetpacks negatively impact person-to-person combat (i was really looking forward to zero-g marines) but when most players can leap across the map in a matter of moments, vehicles (especially combat ground vehicles) are more like extra, disposable suits of armor then tools serving the functions they really ought to. halo and bf1942 are good examples of how important vehicles are to game dynamics when jetpacks aren't involved. The lack of jetpacks in BF1942 is basically why i love it when I pretty much hate tribes (i tried to love it, i really did).

"gamer's hell" is actually a fitting title, considering the number of ads and hoops u gotta go through to just start pulling a file. at least compared to worthplaying, not necessarily fileplanet which can be just as abusive

Marathon is great, but the engine is woefully dated - I would really love to see some kind of remake of it.

i would love to see this happen! though more so for the original. only problem is todays kids are so hopped up on sugar and crank that they dont have the attention span to actually read all the terminals in the game. so they'd have to give voices to the AI computers like system shock. imagine what the rampant durandal would sound like? or if they couldnt do it due to lack of resources, at least include a text-to-speech engine so jane and joe quake-freak dont have to waste their sugar rush on <gasp> reading.

Shame the poor Mac users always get the best-sellers, not necessarily the best games

exactly. as sad as it is, many mac gamers rationalize not buying a windows machine because they think they get the "best" PC games ported to the mac, and most other games in the PC market are "garbage" and not worth playing anyway. little do they know most games they eventually do get are merely hyped up rehashes of some very tired gaming formulas. the greatest achievements in gaming rarely come anywhere near the mac universe, partly because the under-funded developers that actually took the risk of making such games do not have the resources to work on mac ports. this kind of thinking, from loyalist to a company that stresses independent creativity.

I used to be a devout mac user/gamer too... some sad days those were

I've been listening to the industrial group Fear Factory for a few years now, and I believe I read in an interview that they use this digital technique for recording their riffs. I could be wrong however. But whatever they've been doing, I love the deep, "brittle" sound that they are able to capture. An example of what im talking about: http://angelfire.lycos.com/weird2/skinnyd0g/demanufacture.mp3

I've been itching to pick up a guitar for years and start recording some of my own riffs, and this digital method seems very attractive to me, at least for starting out.

You must get excited easily.

i'm going to assume you suck at bf1942, so let me say that it's alot more fun when you learn how to perform well.

for me, bf1942 became what i was hoping halo would become back when i first saw it. that said, no matter how excited i am for bfv, i'm still excited about half-life 2, doom3, halo2, ect... but as of today, there's still no other game that can offer the type of gameplaye delieved by bf1942

I wish the direction of AvP would be given to Ridley Scott*, Chris Cunningham**, perhaps David Fincher*** (provided full liberties in the film making process), or any other realist film maker able to produce a visual style that emphasizes believability, reality and detail. Production Lead needn't change from what it is. I hope I made the correct use of these terms but I fear this film will end up with the kind of synthetic and cartoonish quality made even worse in Alien 4 with bad acting, one-liners, and an exaggerated presentation.

* Alien, Gladiator, ...
*** Fight Club, Panic Room, Seven, Alien 3, ...

all game genres are fun in their own respect but the reality is that they all want to come together and the most engaging sort of game is one that succeeds in bringing it all together in an enjoyable, sensible, intuitive, and stylish way. very difficult but far from impossible, and the challenges are principally concerning design. really, the holy-grail of multiplayer gaming is the app that brings all the different types of gamers (the fighters, commanders, pilots, racers, ect...) together into one experience and allow them to flourish in the activity they most enjoy. hopefully without a monthly fee. in this way, u get the largest player-base possible with each player's success in their chosen role offering a meaningful effect on the larger scale.

I'm still in awe of how engaging the FTP/RTS combination is

imagine something like Savage with the inventory system, item generation and character template of something like Diablo II... the ultimate FTP/RTS/RPG hybrid game experience, akin to bringing a 3rd dimension (the fully developed RPG component) to the dynamics of an already engrossing mix.

are we going to fight for a planet in orbit as well as on the ground? that is, are we going to get to shoot down an opposing team's space command vessel? that would be sweet in team-multiplayer, having to split up command between ground and space operations simultaneously between players. full-scale planetary domination is an excellent idea, and i hope Brat can get it right and pull it all together

"... why not just get an Ikea catalog and save the $50? People's idea of cool is playing with a virtual toaster and re-arranging furniture???"

granted, perhaps 'cool' wasn't the right term to use. 'neato' would have probably been better. but do not forget that this is the Sims we're talking about here. in my time playing (and what a waste of time that was) while nursing my character to financial success i had to painstakingly direct him through the wake>cook>eat>shower>leave sequence manually EVERY GODDAMED MORNING. after doing that for the 555th time, switching it up and doing it in FIRST-PERSON(!!!) would be kinda cool- errr, neato.

and i futhur maintain that aside from observation and home-modification, it would be neato to take control of ur characters in first person and go through the actions u would otherwise have to click to have them preform. like cooking, eating, peeing, peeing on the floor, peeing on ur guests, fondling ur friends, or even watching ur virtual little sister in the shower if thats ur thing

funny, but i've been waiting even longer for The Sims: Life On The Street expansion. where the buying screen is a menu of cheap drugs, ur typical job is munching on penis in the portto-potties, the hygiene gage is replaced with a BAC gage (blood alcohol content), and ur shelter can range from a newspaper tent to a jumbo cardboard fortress.

seriously though, The Sims 2 looks completely 3D. so i hope they include a first-person perspective. it would be cool to stroll through ur house, playing with appliances, and buying/rearranging new stuff.

savage is looking good! i was a really big fan of battlezone I/II and im really looking forward to this. the gameplay looks FAST and responsive which is a big improvement for this genre. while the top-down view for the commander is the most functional interface, i hope there was a way to allow him to fight while commanding. he is too disconnected looking from above the whole time without being able to join his comrads. here's hoping to a ftp/rts game for the masses!
