I'm getting dying light tonight. I'll need something after Soma. Something that isn't part of my collection of more than a hundred unplayed games.

F3 was better than FNV. This is going to be better than all of them. "Consume the flesh of your fellow man".

Um, Blue.

I'm sometimes getting pretty weird ads from your site. A hidden ad that blasts speech at high volume and another add that tries to send me to some other site with a popup. I feel like I'm on a pirate website.

So I played 4 hours. It's definitely not as scary as Amnesia. It's not just a horror game. It's about exploration and story. The game attempts to make you think, and in my case, succeeds. It's beautiful too. I can't wait to continue.

Life Is Strange user reviews: Overwhelmingly Positive (20,542 reviews)

It's number 31 on Steams entire catalog sorted by User Reviews. What I'm saying is 20,542 people can't be wrong with their ratings can they?

The thing is that the ratings are just "like" or "hate". It just means that almost everyone thinks that the game is at least OK. It means it appeals to the lowest common denominator. It doesn't mean it's a better game.

So I started this game because everyone gushes about it. I don't like it at all. It's boring as hell, every character is unlikable and the mechanics are glitchy and painful. I've been playing with my GF, because she's not a gamer and I thought that she could like it, but she doesn't either.

Max is sooo whiny and boring and makes the worst decisions possible. It's really frustrating playing her and being forced into obviously dumb situations. The writing's pretty bad sometimes too. Characters say things that literally don't make any sense and everyone carries on like nothing happened. The time thing is neat, but the application is terrible. It glitches all the time. Once, I rewinded and it showed me a totally different scene for no reason. Also you're forced to watch really long scripted sequences several times...

Anyway, we've done the first two episodes and basically decided to give up and play other, better games in this genre.

I really doubt you'll ever see a structured, scripted campaign mode added to the game - it sort of goes against the sandbox theme of Elite.

I don't think anyone is asking for that? You can make multiplayer open world space games that don't feel barren and devoit of meaningful things to do. Hence my Freelancer reference.

Its a pretty game though, especially if you are just exploring looking at stars/planets - if you're imaginative you can find interesting stuff to do like "Ishona" on Youtube. There are also a group of players called the "Fuel Rats" that answer distress calls from other players that run out of fuel (so if you're trying to find something to do, you can be a Space Rescue ship). And there are others that hire out their service to escort trade ships.

I think you're talking about youtuber Isinona? I've become addicted to his vids. Great stuff.

Watched a vid. No idea what happened, but it was strangely captivating.

Same with me(the not interested part). I get the feeling they don't actually want to flesh out the game more though. This is a barren space trucker simulator.

You haven't played in a while then. Currently 1.4 is open Beta for everyone - it'll be released next month. You can download it now.
Try the Close Quarters Combat Championships (CQCC) which is a free add-on to the main game, a tournament space-combat arena. Kind of Q3A or UT with spaceships.

Nah, my flaw with this game is more deeply seeded than this. This game will always be barren and focused on the wrong things (for me). I want a game more like Freelancer. Also, ZERO interest in the CQCC.

I have elected to forget all about this game for the time being, despite being a space-sim fanatic. The reason is simple. There is simply not enough to do if you simply want to blow shit up and advance. It's way too slow and too repetitive, and I'm not a fan of trading even though it's basically a must-do task if you ever want to earn the credits for the biggest ships in the game.

I'm on this boat. I played the crap outta the beta and the first few months of this game. If VR is all it's cracked up to be, and I give them a year to flesh out this game more, it could be a fantastic thing to come back to in a year or so.

Same with me(the not interested part). I get the feeling they don't actually want to flesh out the game more though. This is a barren space trucker simulator.

I have this on Humble or somewhere, but picked it up on Steam because, free.

How do the Penumbra games stack up?

They're fun. More puzzle than horror, but still pretty scary. Graphics did NOT age well though Third Penumbra game is actually more like Portal.

I dare say that Amnesia is the best horror game ever. It achieves the constant horror without the need for constant jump scares. No other game has scared me like that. The new Alien game came close, but I prefer the gameplay and pacing of Amnesia. Amnesia is the father of all modern horror games.

Insane hyperbole. There are many much shittier ports as far as UI is concerned with no mousewheel support and only two working mouse buttons, and UIs that are laggy, clunky and so on.
Bethesda's UIs usually "only" have scaling issues and are a little too large for high res PC screens but the usability overall is still pretty good.
I'd like them to try harder as much as the next guy but it's definitely by far not "WORST in the business" by any stretch of the imagination.

I highly disagree. Have you played Skyrim or Fallout 3/NV on PC? What a nightmare. Maybe you forgot you were using the UI mod?

Will require SSD for those "entering tiny hut/exiting tiny hut" loading screens.
Witcher 3 did a hell of a good job of killing the whole "entering/exiting" cells bit, sadly it can be done with the engine in Skyrim with no problems already especially with cities. Can't be done on consoles, since they still have a massive memory problem.

Don't you just love those clowns?

Parading in 2005 that HD was the future, 1080p is here to stay. A decade later and an entire generation of machines afterwards, these goofballs still can barely do 1080p without having to drop the framerate down to 30fps. Meanwhile, keeping PC games held back because devs couldn't be bothered to put an honest effort into making a half-decent port.

I agree. Witcher 3 didn't have an open world though. It just had a couple of really big cells.

It'll run on an Xbone, which is a hilariously underpowered piece of shit. So I'm fairly sure that most marginally decent PCs will be able to play it.

And since when has Bethsoft ever done anything for the PC crowd since they went console first? Optimization of any sort? Better graphics? Better UI? Nope. Nope. Nope.

Uh, all of their games look better on PC and have PC-exclusive video settings. They also have dedicated mod tools which is a rarity among multiplatform games. Granted, it would be nice to have a dedicated PC UI but even without that, claiming that Bethesda doesn't put any effort into their PC ports is pretty unfounded.

In Skyrim, they released an ultra-high quality texture pack just for PC. Their ports are usually fairly solid too(as solid as a Beth game can be...) Their PC UIs are the WORST in the business though. Impressively bad. It really detracts from the experience.

No, they are afraid poor PC reviews will hurt sales of the console versions, so they are trying to put some distance between them.
Expect EA to release the same crappy PC port in a few months.

Words of wisdom from a longtime PC gamer: If you want to play a console game, buy a console.

I prefer the vote with my wallet solution where I don't encourage companies that make bad ports.
