Tom Clancy's The Division Beta Signups

You're welcome.

Thanks, but looks like you need a key. I've gleaned you get one for pre-ordering, people on G2A are selling them for a couple bucks a piece, and I found a site that is giving them away for "free" (you need to complete one of those bullshit mailing-list-hell surveys)... I'll just keep an eye out for a legit giveaway somewhere.

Most ignorant statement of the morning! Many zoos/sanctuaries are saving the lives of animals and/or keeping them from extinction, and letting people pay a few bucks to come look at them helps pay for the self-less work they do. Don't throw the baby out with the [abusive corporate profiteering] bathwater...

Is it just me or does the interior lighting look horrible?? And is anyone else suffering from horrible brightness outside?? Its like a bloom nightmare. It just strikes me to not see anyone mention it. Im wondering if its just me. Any fix for that. There is no gamma or brightness adjustment to be seen anywhere?

There's a lot of different weather, the first day is bright and sunny on purpose, but it's not always that way. I was surprised as fuck to experience a radiation storm one day...

I just spent an hour and a half messing around with the base-building in your ruined neighborhood right outside the vault... As if Bethesda needed to add more reasons for you to sink endless hours into their game, lol, they injected it with fuckin' Minecraft!

I wrote a 10,000+ word review of Skyrim a couple weeks after it came out, and probably a quarter of it was explaining various things I felt were wrong with it... Still gave the game a 97/100. Fact is, Bethesda's RPGs are just that good, and a smattering of flaws that would sink another title don't even come close to ruining the experience overall.

Anybody could take their favorite game and criticize the hell out of it, it's easy when you've become so familiar with it. But you still love it more than anything else.

Gamers shouldn't have to edit .ini files to get around a restriction that shouldn't exist. If they want to limit the framerate it should be a in-game option. It's not like high refresh rate monitors or SLI are uncommon.

Gamers in general don't know or care what "60fps" even means... The restriction is there by default because the engine's physics tend to freak out at high framerates, and preventing that for the vast majority of people is a higher priority than relieving you of a small inconvenience. It's not an in-game option because it's not supported, they can't guarantee high framerates won't break things. If you want to take on the risk of causing glitches, shut the hell up and tweak it yourself, nobody's stopping you.

So how the hell is a game greenlit that hasn't even been made? Derp!

This is what it means to be Greenlit, quoted verbatim: "The community has shown their interest in this game. Valve has reached out to this developer to start moving things toward release on Steam."

I'm pretty sure most games on Greenlight are varying degrees of unfinished.

Lol, you're joking, right? Thematically, hypothetically, maybe, but there is no tangible difference in gameplay regardless of the subtitle. Modern Warfare has sneaky sniper missions, Black Ops has you slaughtering dozens from the air during full frontal assault missions, they all have cybernetic shit now, and they're all chock full of mostly the same small-scale, measured and scripted encounters fed to you in sequence.

Speaking of Blops 3 in particular, your career in "wet work," as they say, is glossed over in a two-minute cinematic, and there are a few missions that could be considered somewhat low-key (until shit hits the fan, as it always does) before the latter 2/3 of the campaign plays out with you cooperating alongside a couple different foreign military forces to do things like repel an enemy invasion in the streets of Egypt, assault a heavily-fortified oil rig-like structure with a squadron of VTOL jets, and force your way through an army of robots in downtown Zurich. Advanced Warfare had more covert action than this game...

It's not an issue of setting or theme, though, but the scale of moment to moment FPS gameplay. With the amount of background noise and all the defenses on that oil rig you blow up before landing, having only a handful of enemy soldiers coming at you at once (in timed intervals for your defense objectives) is jarringly incoherent. Hop back in your jet to help your allies on the other side of the structure and hey, there are dozens of little hostiles swarming them! Where were they before, why are they only coming out now? Oh yeah, because now I have dual gatling guns and endless AOE missiles, which is the only way the average schmuck with a gamepad would be able to handle them.

I play these campaigns because they're still reasonably entertaining for what they are (war porn), and I will admit the zombie campaigns are a cool addition, but they're just not as satisfying on a base level as the OG Infinity Ward ones were. Granted, World War 2 as source material is pretty epic all-around (crossing the Volga and the Battle of Stalingrad!), but there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to come up with something original that's comparable now, especially with the creative license science fiction affords you.

The campaign is passable, I guess, until the last couple of levels where it's just complete garbage. The story is god-awful and uninteresting, but they shove it down your throat anyway. The finale should be exciting, a crescendo of the best gameplay in the whole thing, but instead you're abusing me with boredom while you try to be artistic! Seriously, I yearn for the days when Call of Duty was about actual war, with more larger-scale battles.

The series was always at its best with dozens of soldiers on each side mowing each other down... All the nonsense of "shoot this handful of enemies, move forward, shoot another handful that just spawned, repeat 39 times and then you win" is really, really dull. Get off the Quake 3 engine already so you don't have to make a claustrophobic, linear game because you spent all your resources making a half-dozen actors look decent and covering up everything else with so much over-saturated lighting that the HDR craze of ten years ago pales in comparison.

Maybe then your cutscenes wouldn't be 90% super tight shots of cyber-soldiers holding their gun and looking around because even what are supposed to be open environments are walled in by a dense fog... But that's canon, right, pollution is just that out of control 50 years in the future? Ugh.

News Comments > Diablo III Patch 2.4.0 Plans
5. Re: Diablo III Patch 2.4.0 Plans Nov 7, 2015, 18:37 jacobvandy
The Season Journey is just a interface that guides you through seasonal achievements and gives you rewards for completing sets of them, increasing in difficulty as you go. Well, even the last ones aren't really that difficult, they just require you invest the time playing to build a strong enough character and/or get a group together to cooperate in a specific task. A dedicated player can finish the whole thing in a week or two, but the season lasts several months, so it's plenty of time for anyone.

MoreLuckThanSkill wrote on Nov 7, 2015, 16:36:
Hrm, for the most part these changes look good, although I'd really appreciate a way to unlock Stash tabs in Non-Season, since I already have 12 characters I use and don't want to delete once, let alone several times over a year just to get the 'full' set of tabs.

Good choice to remove Exclusive items from seasons, that is really the best news from the pre-patch notes.

There's a new feature specifically made for your situation, which reverts an existing character to level 1 and puts them in the Season. You're not gonna be forced to delete and re-create anymore. No more excuses!

Ha, ha, no microtransactions? That's cute. They're already peddling costumes as an incentive to pre-order and go for the $60 version over the $40, you can guarantee they will have an in-game shop chock full of crap like that for $5-15 a piece.

Yeah, they've built in a lot of online profile progression stuff into every aspect of the game, including the campaign. I thought you could play offline, though... Or is it a case of you have to be online to set it to offline? :p

It doesn't take much to check the word on the street, not since somebody had the idea to connect all of our households together with wires that can transmit said words back and forth instantly... The Steam forums and reviews are chock full of people having issues with the game stuttering, freezing, crashing, failing to load, etc. If you're lucky enough to be playing it on a system similar to one of the few they tested, congrats, but that doesn't absolve them of the issues so many others are having. Your anecdotal evidence is no more valid or factual than any of theirs, get over it.

The main thing I don't like about the new perk system is that you can spend perk points to raise SPECIAL in lieu of actually picking a perk. This means there is a value ratio between perks and specials, and then that means there's potential to fuck up the balance of them. For example, Idiot Savant boils down to a net gain in experience. Well that's exactly what Intelligence does. And since you can spend a perk point on either.. does 1x Idiot Savant equate to 1x Intelligence (statistically averaged)? Hopefully more, since +Intelligence technically has a side benefit of unlocking an additional perk choice.

Is Bethesda proven at knowing how to balance stuff like this? Because if I spend a point on Idiot Savant, and later learn it's unequivocally inferior and that I should have added Intelligence instead, it will piss me off enough to stop playing (or at least start over). Just looking at the perk builder tool, I have some serious doubts that the various perks are anywhere close to balanced. And since it still hasn't been made clear that you can be successful via any approach that isn't somewhat fighter focused (this is an FPS first after all, not an RPG), I suspect that if I don't spend a hefty portion of my perks into combat, I'll be totally gimping myself. And being able to gimp yourself is bad design.

Can you just enjoy any game you ever play, or are you that consumed by this compulsion to min-max your character? You may need therapy, friend, and such a biased viewpoint is not a good one from which to judge the balance of any game, IMO. I agree with Peter, that the ability to build a character in a way that may not be the most effective in combat or any other aspect of the game is a perfectly valid option to have in a role-playing game. A "gimped" build is at least as deserving of inclusion as a potentially overpowered one.

They are buying the userbase, just like Microsoft did.

I think you're spot on. It's not billions of dollars just to own the games and earn back that much money or more, they're putting their name on them so that hundreds of millions of people -- many of which would be hearing about them for the first time -- might begin to associate Activision with the kind of freemium crap they like. Then maybe when they see an ad for Call of Duty or whatever else, they might give that a try, too. It's simple advertising, and that figure probably looks like peanuts compared to how much they're spending on all their other marketing every year, targeting a much smaller segment of people in the world.
