Reading this all I kinda want to play Morrowind heavily modded again...

OpenMW and Skywind have been making significant progress, with openMW having some basic multiplayer already working in their builds, and Skywind looking like its shaping up into quite the looker. It will be interesting to see how these projects handle revamping combat somewhat.

All you folks talking about this "not being enough of a resolution jump" need to think about what kind of hardware you would need for anything greater than what they are offering.

With GPU's at their current ludicrous price point, they would be offering a product that nobody would be buying, but they are still making a higher-tier enthusiast product like how Nvidia does with their Titan GPU's. It's a middle ground. Not what everyone thinks of when they think of next-gen VR, but it is taking some important steps in that direction, like that crazy wireless add-on. It's more like VR gen 1.5

That list misses some pretty big stuff, like the best sf2 movie (the 90's animated one with alice in chains on the soundtrack). It also lists the spirits within as #3, above advent children. Crazy wrong. Wreck It Ralph should be near the top too.

I got a free CD Key sent to me a while back as a gift and was stoked. Quake 2 is my favorite game of all time. Turns out the game is dead, and after 20 minutes in queue for my first match, it popped and I was in a lobby against super experienced players.

http://steamcharts.com/app/611500#7d

Averages 300 players per day.

A majority of people who are playing this game are doing so for free through the bethesda launcher, so the steam numbers will never be accurate here.

This Blizzard-y Easter bullshit doesnt fit with the vibe of the game whatsoever and is obviously pandering to the family friendly image that games like Overwatch have. It's pretty repulsive coming from a game like quake, IMO.

News Comments > Sea of Thieves Final Beta
10. Re: Morning Tech Bits Mar 9, 2018, 18:19 Mordecai Walfish

Looking forward to giving this a try after work tonight! A buddy pre-ordered it on xBox One, and is letting me use his account for the "play anywhere" stuff, which has let me play forza 7 and a couple other games on PC, and now Sea of Thieves too. It's cool that it's made by rare and everything, but the main draw to the game for me has always been the co-op piratin' adventure type stuff. Looks like a lot of fun. I keep a dual-boot of windows 7/10 on this machine just in case I need to log in to 10 for any of the exclusive stuff like this. I made all my machines dual boot when MS was providing the free upgrades.

You know, they could just say "OPEN BETA" and clear up a lot of fuss. DLing it now.

But it's not an open beta. It's an exclusive beta to Win10 and Xbox only. Nor is it an RPG so I don't know why Blue keeps calling it that.

Open betas happen every day for various platforms they are made for. That's like someone complaining an open beta for an android game isn't on ios and therefore isn't an "open beta". That's not what open beta means.

These ports should be handled by fans.

Then we would get results like this, instead of shitty ports of mobile versions. What a joke.

the reality that people kill people--regardless of the tools they use

Knowing this reality, why would you provide tools for mass murder at the corner store? Heat of the moment altercations happen every second of every day somewhere in the world. The likelihood of these incidences becoming fatal increases exponentially when you have easy access to a tool that is made specifically for the purpose of killing. A person armed with a knife may be able to take out a person or two but cannot do the kind of harm that a person armed with an AR-15 and an extended clip can do. You must take into account the tools being used for these types of mass murders that are becoming more and more frequent. People are not mass-murdering folks with knives and other objects. The false equivalency you are trying to create here is intellectually dishonest.

The DMT realms or "hyperspace" influence needs to be injected into more games. Once one has seen it for real... holy shit balls.

The 10 minute window into infinity. It would be cool to step into a virtual representation of abstract subconscious discoveries like the "Earth Coincidence Control Office" (as described in John C. Lilly's The Center of The Cyclone), but how does one re-create such a thing? Maybe in the near future we can translate what we see inside our minds to an image or render or some type.. but that would require imaging something that is not necessarily 1D/2D/3D, which is a pretty massive problem to solve before anything like that is possible.

It will probably take 500 years before we could replicate anything even .0000000000000000000000000001% close to it with bio-technology. And in 500 years those that experience whatever that is that the pseudo-apes create - they will say "Holy shit, this is ground-breaking / revolutionary!!" lol, people should listen up and smoke DMT now.

I think recreational DMT smoking/usage is a terrible idea. That is the sort of thing that kind of represents the inner essence of our beings, a molecule introduced shortly after our birth and released upon death that opens up a doorway to another place that we should not look to turn into a vacation destination. Treated as a sacrament, it is a powerful experience that can be trans-formative in a positive way towards an individual, and perhaps society as a whole.. but it's not even remotely in the same ballpark a what I would consider recreational.

Scientists and engineers talk about the singularity being something that is very possible within 100 years. They have little to no evidence to back this up, it seems.. but I suppose if consciousness were able to be digitized in such a manner, then sharing at least the indescribable abstract concepts of such an experience becomes a possibility, perhaps.

First line from the Cuphead review... he cuts to the chase:
The best way by far to experience Cuphead is to move to a state with marijuana friendly laws, and while abiding by all laws and following all regulations, smoke marijuana while you play this game. This will raise your anger threshold as well as give you the ability to repetitively play levels over and over again because this game is hard as all of fuck.

Translation: "I got high as fuck while reviewing this game and you should too"

Seems like this type of game would work well in VR. Havent played Obduction yet, still trying to get through The Witness before I take on another similar game.

Smash Brothers clone with flash-looking graphics. Very generic looking game, but the gameplay is at least semi-decent. Hard pass unless you're a Smash Bros. fanatic.

Speaking of portable screens, does anyone have experience with the Shield?

I find I want to be on the couch more than the chair, but don't feel like buying a new console. I have the SteamLink, but kind of want a second screen.

edit - the shield is just a shield tv now? Meh.

I dunno but a low-latency Shield & BFGD setup is pretty appealing to me. If the reviews for the BFGD/Shield combo are good I may just go that route, or just the BFGD alone if it's everything it's cracked up to be. Suckers gonna be expensive though, estimates are well over 2k right now.

AI found a bug in a dos port of an atari game. How this is newsworthy is beyond me. Maybe it would have meant something if it was a version of the game that people actually played.

They certainly don't. A good choice on their part.
