Any workarounds for online multiplayer, like do hamachi or tunnngle work with this?

Never had a chance to really play this one but I love the Civ games I've played, so I added it to my steam library with this freebie offer.

Thanks for the heads-up on this!

EDIT: To do the resolution fix, add the line "keepRes=1" to the file conquests.ini in the Steamapps\Sid Meiers Civilization III\conquests\ folder.

Thanks for the heads up also, MAttyC. GameRanger is something I have not heard mentioned in a LONG time. lol. Forgot about that one. I used to play the best online/multiplayer version of monopoly (boxed one from early 2000's) via that with friends =)

Sugar and cancer: Belgium scientists clarify the Warburg effect.

Time to treat sugar like cigarettes.

I quit refined sugar ages ago. All I use is raw unpasteurized honey or raw cane sugar like Sucanat which actually has health benefits to using.

I get honey from a local beekeeper in the area who I grew up with, beeswax chunks and all. love it. Been using sugar in the raw for a long while, but honestly there arent many things I eat that I add sugar to anymore. Not even with coffee, which I drink black now. Never heard of "Sucanat" but it is one vowel away from "Sucanut" so I guess it couldn't be all that bad

Destiny 2 just dropped from my interest completely after hearing about this. There is no way I can in good conscience throw any amount of money towards fucksticks who are trying (or remotely planning to..) pull this kind of shit. They've been leading up to it for a long time with "inventive" new ways of monetizing their games, and I have steered clear of that bullshit for the most part up to this point but still bought their games if it was something I was interested in, Destiny 2 on PC being one that I was looking forward to. Not anymore. Fuck you, Activision.

The greatest tool in the Republican playbook for getting elected over the past many decades, is getting lower/middle income folks to vote against their own interests time and time again. The current method seems to be to make facts themselves meaningless and create an entirely separate media where they can stream propaganda to a good portion of the country 24/7. It is literally insane how Orwellian these fuckers have become..

1 million active players is a bit stale?

That seems like an odd argument, or are those two sentences supposed to be unrelated?

Not at all, just that a huge majority of people who bought the game have moved on. Less than 1 million active players across three platforms it was released on worldwide seems like a likely estimate to me. My friends list consisted of 100 players for overwatch alone at one point, and there are perhaps 4-8 max ever playing the game anymore, with the same few folks usually consisting of the low number. I just extrapolate the estimate from that, while taking into account that the game also has multiple regions and platforms.

Suing a Chinese company for a knockoff sounds like it will be just as fruitless as suing a native american casino for rescinding winnings or other fraud. It's tried in their courts and there is almost no chance of a victory by the outside party there, unless something in the plaintiff's argument is seen to be of national/reservation interest.

Just started playing through Cuphead with a buddy and it's been a ton of fun. Some hard freezes in the game a couple times, and controller vibration seems to like to turn itself on permanently sometimes requiring the game to be completely shut down to fix it. Besides that, awesome game and well worth the price.

The new Sonic game (Mania) is fucking awesome too. Best Sonic game I've ever played and it blows my mind that Sega couldn't just expand on what was really good about the game originally, as this game does, for decades. This is the kind of game that would have made the Sega Saturn a runaway success back in the day, but instead they let AM2 and arcade ports run the show, with a couple originals that were good, but not as memorable as their gems like Sonic.

Engine issues for all of em are documented in internet forums. Sorry your system can't handle UE4. Without anything more specific it's hard to separate hyperbole from tangible "massive issues" like you claim. I personally haven't seen anything "massive in all titles that use the engine".

the U4 Engine might amount to something besides a lukewarm tech demo and low-budget game engine--who knows?

What planet are you living on?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games#Unreal_Engine_4

Huge AAA titles are using that engine, along with the most successful multiplayer game ever released on Steam (PUBG)..

I don't know how this equates to a "lukewarm tech demo and low-budget game engine".

Japanese developers who mainly did all of their engine work in-house historically have adopted it like no other. Pretty much all the AAA fighting games coming from there are using it. Square Enix is making the next Kingdom Hearts game with it, and the Final Fantasy 7 remake. Shenmue 3 will be using it.

It is a highly flexible and beautiful looking engine, and tech demos for new graphics technologies frequently use this engine to showcase what is in store for future generation GPU technology.

Examples:

UE4 using VXGI rendering techniques:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQSzmngTbtw

Photo-realistic rendering in UE4:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTb7k9pCQTo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXouFfqSfxg

Now that I think about it.. I think we've had this conversation before. It is beyond crazy to describe UE4 this way, but it would seem you do not understand at all what it is.

Well, hes kinda right. More games than not, have huge issues optimizing UE4 or getting as good graphics out of it as in demos. Even PUBG struggles still.
All UE4 games I have played in the past 2 years have had massive performance issues.
As for being low budget... since when do AAA developers (publishers) not try to save money?

Please name a 3d engine that is as flexible and large-scale as epic's that does *not* have performance issues in games. Cryengine? Unity? Frostbite? Crystal Tools? Source/2? Creation/whatever the fuck Bethesda calls it now? Bungie's engine? RAGE? (Both rockstar's and id's.. carmack is an engine God and still the engine had tremendous issues with certain stuff) They've all got their upsides and downsides, as they are doing a tremendous amount of complicated shit to make sure things are running smoothly. UE4 isn't worse or better than any of them, just has it's low and high points like the rest. Trying something new (pubg, rust, star citizen, etc..) with an engine that you have not specifically created to tackle the rendering and gameplay pipeline that you are laying, can lead to massive performance issues. It's just the nature of the beast. That you are able to craft these (and many other) gameplay experiences at all from engines that were not specifically created to jump the hurdles you are putting in place for them, is a testament to the flexibility of these modern engines, but there will most certainly be performance issues still on some level. Blizzard makes their own engines in-house for this very reason, and specialises them for each game. Not every dev has Blizzard money though, and even blizz has performance issues with their shit.

Tell me which engines don't have issues? If literally "all ue4 games in the past 2 years" have had " massive performance issues" for you, I'd start to wonder if you're having local issues or only playing the more ambitious fringe games that push it to the limit. Games like everspace Tekken 7, and many others using ue4 have run perfectly on my system since day 1.

Literally more people are playing gems like Natural Selection 2 (which just updated to a 64-bit client, woo hoo!) and Pirates, Vikings and Knights II, than this.. and you know why? Because they're better games. Lawbreakers sucked balls. Incomplete edgelord rubbish from a washed up Dev. I tried it when it was free recently. Tried all the maps and modes and a couple characters and it's really just dull and generic even compared to decade-old games in the same genre. F2P ain't even gonna save this one unless a bunch of things change in the core experience.

Although, at 94 and a half fucking gigs, there's no way IN HELL I'm ever gonna be able to download it, even legit. That's two months of my data cap! Fuck. That.

With the underlying denuvo code/method being completely compromised at this point, and cracking teams taking great pride in destroying their protections as quickly as possible, I'm guessing the actual crack was done within a couple of hours, tops. Probably took more time to package this gargantuan game with the crack than to actually crack it.

The title of this reminds me of my buddy that always says that blocking in fighting games, and braking in racing games, are noob tactics. Unsurprisingly, he does poorly in both genres.. but he loves those types of games. I annihilated him in Tekken 7 a couple times before he completely stopped asking me to play it when he comes over.

Might be time to do another playthrough of quake with this slice of the ol' ultraviolence. Maybe swap the tracks from the original with some newer NIN stuff from their ambient and instrumental albums/tracks like 'Ghosts' and 'Just Like You Imagined'.

It's been a while, which is a shame considering I've put more time into this game than pretty much any other game on the planet.

Instead of handing out bans they could just install rootkits in an update like Capcom did with Street Fighter 5 when people were gaming their bullshit system.

Fuck all this lootbox nonsense. These shit developers and marketing teams can eat all the dicks.

VR on this scale opens the door to more commercial applications, for example a realtor or rental agency that allows you to tour any of their properties for a preview, and other cool applications like this.

I applied at a VR tech company that is trying to make this a thing in the US currently, for more commercial-scale operations. It really feels like the first version of the holodeck in a lot of ways.
