After the 2013 remake... why?

Are there really people out there that want to go so retro as to have "minecraft graphics" work seamlessly on a modern machine / operating system / wide-screen monitor?
Is this all 3DRealms can do? rehash old shit on tweaked old tech engines? (Even new IP like Graven)

I'll settle for the 2013 remake (which I have from a GOG sale)... thanks.

Obviously yes, there are enough people that like these sort of things to allow them to keep working on them. More power to them, just because it's a niche doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

But I'm biased, I thought Strafe was easily among the best FPS games released in the past decade...

Really? I bought it at some point but haven't had time to play it, yet. Will have to check it out soon.

I recently got back into this and it's great so far. I have a lot of fun, feels like the real X experience to me, unlike X Rebirth. Looking forward to this. Luckily there is a native Linux port, WHOO!

Nice, I always wanted to try Wilmot's Warehouse after reading about it on RockPaperShotgun but never got it because it was not available on Linux. Now I just need to get the Unepic games thing to run on Linux.

It looks like Project Cars 3 is some sort of Forza or Grid clone.
As a backer of the first one it's a shame because they will never achieve what they set out to achieve.
Shame.

So the driving is rubbish? I was hoping it'd be more like Assetto Corsa or iRacing or something like that.

It's a mod that integrates virtual machine functionality, which is way more boring than I thought from reading the headline... I expected someone would program that shit from scratch with redstone.

Same here. Was rather disappointed.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. I liked playing this game when it came out. After they dropped Linux support, though, I became less interested. This is just another nail.

DOOM Eternal is too much like Serious Sam I'm afraid: just mindless arcade like pew pew against waves of enemies, no real story to speak of nor too much effort put in atmosphere.

Wish I kept my money for the brand that actually knows what it is. Wish I kept it for Serious Sam 4.

Wait, what? Previous Doom games had a story besides "Shoot them monsters!"?

This looks just like the last Serious Sam game. Which is not a bad thing. Just wished more people played it in coop.

Watched it without sound. Looked ok to me.

But then again I watched a 20 minute gameplay video of Shadow Warrior 2 and thought that looked boring. That's because the guy playing it did a terrible job. Once I got my hands on the game I had A LOT of fun so I'll probably be buying this, too, since I cannot really trust other people playing first person shooters since most of the time they don't know how to go fast.

I really loved that about Test Drive Unlimited 2. It really felt like a world that you take part in, being able to walk around, buy your own place etc. and also drive around in a semi-free world. Exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately the driving was garbage. Test Drive Unlimited 2 with the driving physics from something like Project Cars would be awesome. Doesn't have to be as realistic as iRacing or something like that. Project Cars would be enough.

Yes! I am looking forward to that!

I liked both games. I loved the first one and was pretty underwhelmed when I saw gameplay trailers for the second one but after actually playing it I loved it. Yes, the enemies were bullet spongy. Yes, the loot aspect was poor.
But the movement and the shooting in that game was superb. A proper, fast shooter. I still cannot understand why people favoured Doom 4 over this, since that game was super slow, especially with that idiotic melee feature that you couldn't turn off. Hmm. Maybe the fact that it was slower is what people liked.

I liked the new Star Wars movies. Only seen them once, though. Still, had a lot of fun watching them.

I'd be fine with a reboot since I'm not quite happy with the direction they took, basically redoing the whole plot again. I like the Jedi Knight series a lot more in that it actually tries to rebuild the Jedi order and also had some fun characters like Kyle Katarn.
It's just a shame that Ford is sick of Star Wars and both Ford and Hamill are probably too old, not to mention that Fisher is dead. :/
I liked the characters from the latest trilogy, though.

And like others said, there are some great games like the Jedi Knight games and KOTOR that also add to the lore. Maybe they could do a sith origin story, like when Revan and Meetra Surik went to fight that Sith emperor Vitiate.
Or a Jedi origin story, sort of like a prequel to the prequels where they go in depth about the prophecy concerning the one who would bring balance to the force.

A big galaxy, a lot of ideas.

Have you played HEX? I wonder how it is.

What's Nite Team 4? I looked at the steam page and was surprised that a hacking game doesn't have a Linux port haha
Maybe it'll run with proton though.

Just watched the whole 1hour+ long video on Youtube and my first thought was: "That's it?"

Well... after Unreal Engine 5's demo, that was underwhelming.

And I didn't see anything there that can't be done right now on a PC.

*shrugs*

Watch the Ratchet & Clank stuff again, with the rift portal mechanic. They're doing exactly what I recall someone on here said they wanted to see, where you can teleport between two enormous and completely different levels with a transition time of literally 1-2 seconds. It happens 5 times in a row in the reveal trailer, which I assume is a pretty early part of the game where they really show it off.
But is that really a hardware thing or just clever software engineering?

Loading that much data that quickly is a (custom PS5) hardware thing. So expect to see that outside of the PS5 exclusives realm exactly never. Or well, on a very fast PC you might do it in 10-15 seconds per load.

What I wonder though, can you even port a game using this to any other platform?

Are you positive? Unless you can just go off the rails and explore the level this really looks just like a bit of decent programming.
Also nothing that couldn't be done on a PC.

I know that e-gearheads get hard off this stuff, but it's such a turnoff for me. I want the advanced physics, the great cars and amazing tracks, but I have zero patience for the infinite customization that ends up being required to do well, or to even be able to place in some tracks. If they shipped with like 3 profiles for each car that I could easily pick to find a driving profile that "just works" then i'd be sold. As is my choices are racing games where tuning, modding, customizing, and labouring over car builds is the bulk of the game, or something like Trackmania on the other side.

I want all the cool stuff the sim games have, but have no patience nor free time to sink into doing all of that.

I know what you mean but your're probably in the minority. I know because I want a game with the most advanced driving physics there is that focuses not on super cars or modern race cars but on regular, normal cars that anyone can buy in a store. So far I know no one else who wants that. :/
