One cool addon I use on Firefox is Tab Suspender, it will free up an idle tabs memory and processor usage after X mins. Keeps it running quite well and if you have a lot of tabs open, it just gets more valuable.

But don't you enjoy the convenience? Sure, you can get Proton from github, compile your own version. But it integrates so smoothly into Steam. This was basically the reason why I finally decided to ditch the last Windows systems in my home. Still had Windows on my desktop to play video games, don't need it anymore.
I don't know. I just don't have the time to to tinker with my system anymore. EGS doesn't even have a Linux client so they can sod off, for all that it matters to me.
Meh. I prefer flexibility over convenience. I like not being forced in to dealing with a single vendor for a proprietary tool. However, I know that different people have different desires when it comes to their Linux systems and it's awesome that the choice is there.
I do enjoy tinkering because it helps me to both learn and understand. For example, on my devbox, I started with Linux From Scratch, moved on to Beyond Linux From Scratch, and then advanced to where I am now which is Automated Linux From Scratch so I can have a consistently uniform build and deployment of my own distro. On the box I am typing to you now from, I am running Fedora Silverblue so I can learn the ins and out of immutable OSes which I believe to be the future. For me, tinkering makes sure that I am never stagnant nor wholly reliant on someone else's whims. That was one of the major reasons I ditched Windows and moved to Linux. The actual, real freedom to control my machine, what's on it, and how it operates. You do not get that with Windows at all.

I'm a low-key burrito so I don't buy fifty games at once. The lack of a shopping cart is laughably pedantic. Steam has no more features for my usage than Epic does. I buy games, install them, and then play them. Both serve that function flawlessly.
It has Proton built in, which is nice, but I can use Proton standalone without Steam from here. So outside of a store front, Steam doesn't have any proprietary advantages for me over any other storefront.

With 1600 Steam games, adding many carefully selected ones each month :
The Steam user **reviews** are a total game changer.
Don't peruse them -yes some are fabricated- and you'll never know, but I've found time and again, heads ups for problems or solutions to them, and tips/strategies I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Details you won't find in any review site.
This affect critically my buying or enjoyment later.
And the Community Hub has provided unique maps, hints, et al, vital to ending some games, etc.
For those in other countries, Steam is the only store that considers their economic situation, and provides selective lower normal prices. Cheaper yet with specials offers.
So that even with the swell $10,00 Epic coupon rebate, Steam has better/killer prices all year.
Waiting eagerly for the Steam openworld games sale, May 27 to 31, and the summer sale possibly June 24 to July 8 !

So I kinda avoided most zombie games for the past years and now I'm itching to just shoot a lot of zombies.
I heard many people complain that this game doesn't do anything new and that other games have done the same. Of course those same people don't say what these other games are.
So before I pay full price for a zombie shooter (personally I think Days Gone looks rather fun) what other, older games would you recommend that are like this? I just want to shoot hordes of zombies. Don't make me go back to Brainbread. :p
Many people have their head up their ass because, in terms of having huge groups of zombies for you to deal with, only Days Gone and World War Z actually have a decent simulation there. That's a legit innovation that both promoted heavily before releasing around the same time in 2019, though I believe the latter was rushed to market so they could have a chance to compete on that basis, and there's even a rumor that they pitched it as the MP mode for Days Gone but Sony shot it down.
If you only want one, it should be a pretty easy decision because they're very different other than the large group dynamics and third-person perspectives. DG is an open-world single-player action/stealth game with emphasis on story and world-building, as well as quite a few human enemy engagements where zeds are often the wildcard neutral party that can help or hinder you. WWZ is a linear, episodic co-op shooter that is basically a Left 4 Dead clone with a twist, where you're frequently tasked with setting up some basic traps and weapon emplacements before standing your ground against one or more waves of enemies.
Of course, there are some other good ones to consider if you've been abstaining for so long. Dying Light is great for first-person immersion and parkour movement, though it's very focused on melee combat. Dead Rising 3 and 4 are tons of over-the-top fun with guns or explosives or vehicles or whatever you want to use. 7 Days to Die is the definitive zombie survival Minecraft-alike, but with lots of emphasis on full-blown RPG mechanics and looting as well as the resource-gathering and building. State of Decay 2 features some settlement building and management/simulation stuff along with its action that is pretty similar to Dead Rising. I guess we can throw Killing Floor 2 in there for really satisfying round-based multiplayer FPS combat against various enemies that are basically zombies, even if they technically aren't.
But again, none of these match the peak active enemy counts of Days Gone or World War Z -- even if they depict large numbers, you'll notice how they're 90% or more cardboard standees with very low caps on how many AI are actively engaging with you at once. We're talking no more than a few dozen vs. a few hundred.

I would think perhaps it's the third-person stealth/scavenger type of game (like the Last of Us games or Horizon: Zero Dawn) that people have said where Days Gone's type of gameplay has been done before.
For mass-zombie-horde shooting, all I can really think of off the top of my head (Dying Light doesn't count for me since it's melee weapon-centric) is maybe State of Decay 2 (which is full of jank. But imo, fun jank nonetheless) or something more co-op arena-centric like Killing Floor 2 or World War Z.
So far I'm quite enjoying Days Gone. Big hordes are quite a sight and while the game does nothing new, it fullfills my itch of mass zombie horde killing and exploring a big infested zombie world on a bike as well as having focused story missions to follow along with.

I enjoyed the previous Spintires games and probably would have grabbed this at release if it wasn't EGS exclusive. That year of exclusive saved me though. I hear the game is a bit grindy if you don't buy the DLC vehicles to get an easier start. Also, seeing now that they're trying milk it with DLC, I'm waiting until it's done and I can get the complete edition.

For ArmA 4, they could actually hire someone to work ON THE DAMNED KEYBOARD AND MOUSE CONTROL SCHEMES AND THE INTERFACE!
But who am I kidding... They again won't.
They have improved indeed. But the sheer amount of redundant keybinds ("Prone" vs. "Go Prone" for example) and keybinds that can be deleted because they are never used or useless (Helicopter controls Left/Right turn, which is a combination of cyclic and pedals, when you already are using cyclic and pedals for control). Also the whole keybinding mechanism and support for other devices is very old fashioned and the overall interface and how the profile system (which also is decades old - still has ICQ lol) are all very confusing to people who have never played the game.

Someone explain to me in 20 words or less why Russia is still allowed access to the global internet?
Also that zdnet article is a good example of white-washing. DarkSide is in our circles known as a Russian gov sponsored hacking group with 100% oversight by the KGB. And anything they or Russia say is always a lie. And that's coming from a German... but what Russia is doing here with their false-flag hacking groups and troll factories (yes, a real thing) is well documented by the EU sigint department.... but I digress.

Just picked up some pine so I can make a headboard for my bed. It used to be against the wall, so I didn't need one, but I rotated it recently, and now my pillows fall off. Lumber is fucking expensive, I paid probably twice what I would have in 2019. Still, beats having to pay several hundred for a solid wood headboard.
I also just picked up this game.
3 Million dead (I'll take your word for this at the moment putting aside it's a highly skewed and deceptive count) some of which (not all) "happened to test positive for COVID-19" right before their death. The 23-year old in the motorcycle accident who dies on the operating table get's counted also. What is the average age of a person who dies from COVID-19, you forgot to blast that across your signature line!". I'll give you a clue. It's about 78.6 years of age. The choice is only clear for the blind people with tunnel vision. I hope you got your jabs. I'll wait for a restock. And then I'll wait some more. It would be selfish of me to get a shot now, you know being that I'm white and all. I don't want to take advantage of my white privilege.
The average age is absolutely irrelevant. A lot of people still die from this disease, this risk can be drastically reduced by being vaccinated. Even more people suffer from long covid, this risk can also be drastically reduced by by being vaccinated.
Also, what does this have to do with Pine?
I picked it up, like almost all of the other free games.
But unless epic decides to make a Linux client there's fat chance of me ever playing them. :/
