I tried the demo and while it looked like this game could be fun I found the controls too cumbersome to use.

I watched a let's play of Alan Wake from a British youtuber I really like and this guy was the only thing that kept me through. Alan Wake looked so incredibly boring to me.
For some reason I get the feeling that Control is quite similar in its gameplay but I actually like the game. Probably because I like the setting more.

Wait, so this Starship Troopers is again based on the movie instead of the book? What a damn shame. The book much better lore than the movie honestly. Power armour FTW!

This is a game from unepic, the makers of a few indie games like unepic and ghost (I've tried both and enjoyed). This one so far has 100% reviews, and all their other games have very positive reviews.
Here's the developer page on steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/40136724

The developer name alone will get this on my wishlist.

Hmm. I really liked UnEpic but never played Ghost. Maybe I should seeing as how cheap it is :>

It's a fresh thing that's indie and fun, I picked it up a while back.
Yes, I don't think it's going to be a deep game, but something to kill a weekend or two? Absolutely.
At a list of $15 one isn't breaking the bank to do it.

A bit part of if this is just a flash in the pan or it is a continued success is if they can pull off and offer more than they have right now. For instance, the first 16 days in game I think it is are hand crafted. The random customers after that aren't nearly as interesting or fun.

For early access, I got my $13.50 (10% discount) worth out of it.

I'm having fun with it.

I bought a T15g g2. Set me back quite a bit but it delivers. i7-11800H and a RTX 3070 mobile. I can play Horizon Zero Dawn on ultra (running Ubuntu 21.04 atm) but I turn off the boost, so the CPU clocks at 2.3GHz. I also bough a cooling pad. That way the CPU and GPU never go beyond 80°C and it runs at almost constant 60FPS.
I actually got it because I wanted a reliable workstation with a great keyboard (Lenovo didn't disappoint) which I can also use to train neural nets. I am very happy with that purchase. Bought it couple of months ago. Let's see how long it will last.
What's awesome about this machine is also that Lenovo provides videos on how to replace any of the components. I've never seen that in a laptop actually.

I also love how far Proton has come. I finished Far Cry 5 on this machine and am currently playing Far Cry New Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn and Control. Deep Rock Galactic also runs well.

Wow Stanislaw Lem, my favorite SF writer. Kind of a mix of Samuel Clemmons and Phillip K Dick. Humor and staring into the abyss.

Haha I thought he's a bit more like a sarcastic version of the Strugatzki brothers.

I liked Far Cry until the mutants showed up. I quite FC2 after an hour because I couldn't stand the interface and the driving. Until now that was the last FC game I have played. I recently finished FC5 and I loved it, except the ending and the forced story missions (that was atrocious). I liked the setting, Montana looks beautiful and I liked the plot. The voice acting was superb. Currently I am also enjoying New Dawn.

I played NMS last year and while I enjoyed it to some extent it is really a subpar space game.

Walking around on the planet is done well but the actual flying is not good. So many features that I expect in a space game are missing. (Un)fortunately I already forgot most of what I was annoyed about.

One thing I'll never forget, though. It's how space looks. You are always flying through colourful mists. It doesn't feel like you are flying in space at all. There are so many asteroid or debris fields it's like you wonder whether you are in vacuum at all and the planets are all so close together it's a wonder they don't crash into each other.

Ultimately I'd rather play X4.

Gah I hope they hurry up with a new Linux version. Cannot play Horizon New Dawn right now because there is an error in the 470 drivers which, when used with Proton and DXVK, makes the RAM consumption of DX12 games explode.

Thanks!! You rock.
Now it's study time while i wait for the laptop.

Which one?
It's really nothing special. I'd been waiting for the stars to align with the components i wanted at a price I was willing to pay.
Dell G15 Ryzen™ Edition Gaming Laptop (Frugal mans alienware)
Ryzen 7 5800H
Nvidia RTX 3060 6gb 125w
15.6-inch 1080p 165Hz 300 nit
16GB DDR4 2x8 Dual Channel
512GB NVMe (spare slot)

Oh cool, what did you pay for it? I'm currently looking for one myself, have my eyes on the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g. It has all of the goodness of a ThinkPad (like an awesome keyboard and a sturdy case) and a RTX 2070 (3070 for the Gen. 2 model, which should come out in a few months). Unfortunately hardware is really expensive here in Europe. This one would cost about 2400 Euro (about 2800 bucks, I think), whereas in the US you can have them for under 2000 (of course that's pre-tax but I have no idea how that works out in the end).

Seeing this link I wish Windows 11 would have just been a heavily optimized Linux distro with the MS store, their UI, and a sensible package and driver packaging tool.

They're already using DNF for package management which is about as solid as it gets. The only "driver" Linux needs is from Nvidia because Nvidia are a bunch of tools and won't create open source drivers like AMD and Intel that can be freely distributed. Oh, yeah, Broadcom, too, but mostly for their older stuff. Intel seems to have pretty much become the defacto standard in the WLAN space. Even so, they could use Manjaro's driver management tool because it is slick and they openly offer it to anyone who wants to use it.

Honestly, I don't want their UI as it stands currently. It's a total clusterfuck with things in two to three different places. I'd rather they either rewrote it from the ground up to be coherent or just adopt Pantheon or Gnome. KDE is too finicky for the average user.

I think, really, the only thing holding Microsoft back is legacy cruft. However, they could probably get around that by using Proton.

The only thing Microsoft has for it on the server side is Active Directory, but that's just their version of LDAP and it could be easily ported.

There is a German blogger who works as a network consultant who is railing non-stop against Active Directory because it's supposed to be
one giant security hole.

But why did they have to make the hero so butt ugly, and repeat it now.
They erred there, makes it harder to sympathize.

I fondly remember the Gothic 1 guy, *and* his uniquely warm voice. You really wanted to help him.
Can you remember other games with heroes so pleasant ?. I can't.

Yeah, I fully agree and the only reason I can think of is that Elex's hero used to be a bad guy.
