Again, I don't think there's a single video game out there that hasn't had a scope shift partway through development. This is a scope shift. Could it have been planned all along? Sure. But that seems exceedingly unlikely. Hell, Unreal Tournament was supposed to be 1 on 1 battles against AI. It became something very, very different. Scope shift. Halo was supposed to be 3rd person. It became something very different. Scope shift.[/quote:

Playing devil's advocate: problem is - those games were financed by peoplefor whom important were sales. If scope shift meant more sales, thumbs up. E:D was financed by people who wanted offline spaceships.

But let's say it didn't, how would they hide it with multiplayer?
You make zero sense.

Just look at Eve-Online. They have plenty of content thanks to online.

They also forgot to mention mouse and keyboard support will be a paid DLC 6 months after the game comes out.

Well, game must doing well, because six months ago haters had some valid points (AC is late), and didn't had to invent new ones.

That is true however the budget they are working with is 15th of SC so I think even though he started earlier what they have accomplished is amazing.

Yeeeaaah, no.

Crowdfunding continued after Kickstartyer on their page.
They had couple milions in reserve + royalties from their other games.
They sold shares.
And they're still selling merch and skins.

Actually, there's no (easy) way to see how much they gathered for ED.

I also much prefer his modest attitude vs Chris Roberts super rock star show off stage appearances. Don't like the snake oil sales man feel I get whenever I see Chris

CR has to cater to fans, because fans are his only source of money.
Braben already has succesful company.

Sure. Except he promised FPS during Kickstarter.

Where is that exactly? I don't see it on the KS page or on the main site's Funding Goals section.

3.5M goal. "Ship boarding". Achieved. 14/11/2012.
5M goal. "Enhanced boarding options: melee combat, heavy weapons, zero gravity simulation, suit HUD options and EVA combat." Achieved 18/11/2012. People did Pledged to get FPS.
Then he promised crossbow for everyone, who'd pledge for Avatar (Garriot's game).

Cutter wrote on Nov 2, 2014, 17:27:
And even if that were the case, don't you think everything should be focused on the space game first?

As I said earlier, Illfonic don't have any experience with sims. So they take care of FPS, while Manchaster, Santa Monica, Austin and Montreal concentrates on space game

Cutter wrote on Nov 2, 2014, 17:27:
2 years into it and they still have squat to show for it.

They appear on shows ebery month or two and they always have something new to show. They keep adding new ships to hangar and AC. They're doing their shit.

Cutter wrote on Nov 2, 2014, 21:03:
Uh maybe because Braden has actually delivered and all we see from Roberts are commercials and talk?

Braben started much earlier (even 2000, although games was on slow burn), had already working engine and 220-250 team in 2012 and is targeting into smaller game as finished product. He wants have walking in lots of features same as SC, but they'll be added later, as expansions. So, basically both games could be quite identical around same time, but one will be 2-3 years old and other brand new. For me it's win/win situation.

It's almost pointless to post in any Star Citizen thread at this point, but as I was watching this video, I kept thinking: "man, these human animations are terrible, but I bet they could make an ok flight-sim instead, if they put their minds to it."

Illfonic don't have any experience with flight-sims.

Starpoint Gemini 2 just came out and reportedly is pretty good.
GoD Factory: Wingmen came out a few months ago and was fun.

Elite Dangerous isn't out yet, but it's getting close and all reports point to it being fantastic.

And, of course, Strike Suit Zero: Directors Cut came out earlier this year

Starlight Inception was Kickstarted few months before Star Citizen

FTL

Eterium

I mean, they could just jump the gun like History did about a year ago and release some kind of bullshit 'documentary' about The Great Martian War for the sake of not bumping in to a scenario they've already touched on in the past then all the sudden, something like Attila isn't so bad.

Ridiculous. The racing mode should be one of the last things to be put in the game after Squadron 42 and most of the PU are up and running and stable. But they've long lost any sense of priorities. The only priority left is "what can we finish half-assed in a hurry and turn into another sale"?

Fuck these guys now.

So, while BHVR is making PU, and Fundry is making SQ42. all remaining studios should laid back anf wait?
