It's so sad to see the current state of id. Reading about the Wolfenstein 3D/Doom days is so much fun, but some time around Quake was when things started going downhill (not game-wise, but office environment-wise).

That's messed up. While I don't always agree with him, he's one of the few voices of reason in this industry. But he's right, medical technology is advancing pretty fast these days.

Not for Cancer it's not. Harvard Medical categorically declared it to be incurable a few years ago - likely for at least another century. We can catch and beat it if it's small enough and you find it early enough, otherwise the Magic 8 Ball says the prognosis is not good.

Skeptic magazine did an entire magazine dedicated to this a year or so back as well and the results were not good. Some milder forms of cancer - skin cancer - are obviously much easier to beat than others, but overall we've only seen about a 15% increase in sucess against it since the 1950s. That's not very good for an industry that's had 100s of billions of dollars poured into and tens of billions more every year. We'd be far better off putting that money into prevention by subsidizing fresh food and excercise and banning - or at least taxing the shit out of - junk food. They estimate almost 80%-90% of all diseases could be pre-empted like that.

Maybe one day, scientists will stop curing rat diseases and get around to people diseases! Lucky rats. All joking aside, do researchers really want to cure anything? If something is cured, how would they get that delicious funding/grants/donations?

"Additionally, if Mr. Roberts' offer for The Escapist to "meet the developers making the game and see how we're building one of the most ambitious PC games first hand" remains open, we take the opportunity to accept such invitation so as to hopefully provide the public with sufficient information and opportunity to vet such sources' allegations and claims for themselves."

Well that would be one awkward demo.

I've never played one of these myself, but based off of Youtube videos, I'd say most of the people buying them are Youtubers wanted to do Let's Plays Not sure how well a non-jump-scare game will go over.

I rage quit AI after being stuck in that goddamned med lab for a few hours. Didn't seem to matter what I did, I could not get the fuck out of there without it killing me. The ambiance in that game was absolutely perfect but the AI for the Alien and how they scripted shit was just infuriating. I rarely get irate when I'm gaming - alone at any rate - but that game had me swearing at the monitor and giving the Alien the finger. The game was far more rage inducing than scary.

I still haven't finished Outlast yet because that freaked me the fuck out! I crawled into the corner and cried like a little girl after about 30 mins of that. Amnesia is the same. I'll man up and give them all another go as Halloween is only 6 weeks out at this point anyway. I've even started watching classic horror flicks again to build up my tolerance.

This is super cool of them and SOMA is on my wishlist for sure. A love macheen for pigs got a lot of neg reviews however. Anyone play it? Thoughts?

I liked A Machine for Pigs. It sort of dragged in the last 1/3 (despite only being 4 hours long, if I'm remembering correctly), but the build up to the first encounter was intense. After that it sort of lost its scare factor.

I've never played the original Amnesia, despite having it off of gog.com. After playing System Shock 2 all the way through, I swore off scary games for awhile. A loooooong while.

If someone here never played Daggerfall, they really should. It's a bit complicated and really throws you in the deep end, but this game is something else. It contains stuff no other game does, in a good way. In a bad way sometimes too, but it's really worth seeing it implemented.

I loved Daggerfall back when it came out, but HATED the randomized dungeons. 4 hrs to find a stupid feather or a mob you had to kill. Crime paid alot more in that game

Perhaps the reason there aren't rows and rows of PC games on the shelves anymore is because of Steam and other digital only sellers, hmmm? I don't know when the last time I bought software on a disc.

I took a few days off work to go visit Austin and hit up the food trucks, and the temperature there was over 100 all week. I'm used to hot weather, being from south Texas, but that sucked, as there was NO breeze.

That brings back memories.

Don't know how rose-tinted they are but that Aliens mod was the scariest thing I've ever played!

Check those corners!

I remember it being pretty tense.

On the one hand, I think Star Citizen is lurching towards disaster.

On the other hand, Derek Smart is an unsuccessful pseudo-developer who has no idea what he's talking about and no writing skill to speak of.

So technically I can't lose. Either way, some shithead is going down.

Sort of reminds me of the escaped Mexican drug lord Guzman, who just tweeted a threat to Donald Trump.

There was already a multiplayer Fallout...it was a MMO called Fallen Earth. Ripped the Fallout feel off, but in a good way. Was pretty fun as far as MMO's go. Think it's free-to-play now.
