Wow, I didn't realize it was DirectX 10/11 only (no XP). This a pretty big game to do that. I just upgraded last year to Win7 64bit, thankfully. A little late to the party, I know.

Frozen Synapse is a great game, especially if you like turn-based strategy, strategy, or just good games.

That Frozen Synapse price finally looks about right, I think I'll bite on that and meh to the rest which I already own anyway. I think some of us are rapidly approaching the steam saturation point where stuff can go on sale all they want but we already own most of it

It's a great game, definitely worth it, especially at that price (and you get two copies).

This game has Duke Nukem Forever syndrome.

Except they've had playable demos for gaming conventions for over a year, and they're not a no-name company, and they have a huge publisher giving them lots of money while giving them lots of time to make sure the game is good and polished. This game is going to be nothing like the abortion DNF was. No offense to abortions.

Girlfriend and I bought Magicka today before the previous sale ended (yes, I know we're late to the party). It's fun so far, though we keep killing each other by accident. Today's sale I'm thinking about Tropico 3. Defense Grid is a steal at 2.49, have about 90 hours on that game. Torchlight is a steal too at 2.99.

So when's the update that adds a proper interface for 3rd-party maps coming? They don't seem to want the game to take off.

Nice to bring attention to new maps though.

Hopefully they'll add it in their free summer DLC. It isn't that hard to play custom maps, but I agree they could make it a lot better, which would have more people playing/making custom maps, which is good for everybody!

Wow, the new Soldier items are pretty beefy. 40% faster rockets with no reduction to splash damage or radius? A shotgun that has automatic mini-crits on airborne targets? While a lot of players will stick with the Gunboats or Buff Banner as their secondary weapon, I'm pretty sure everyone will switch over to the Liberty Launcher.

I'll definitely be trying out the Liberty Launcher. Right now I'm using the Black Box. I play mostly payload, go commando style a lot (solo), and use rocket jump. If I play smart, I can heal for quite a bit, stay alive longer to kill more people.

I know it's bad on their part that it happened, but at least they're not blaming anyone else but themselves and being completely truthful about it.

How are you liking it so far? I'm still honing my skills in the campaign before I start doing regular multiplayer. I'm loving the game, think it's going to be a sleeper hit.

I think they should just start putting Bobby Kotick's face on the cover of every game they release from now on. You know, just to "put a human face on the company."

I already had this in my wish list, but after watching that video I want it now. I gotta wait until after the weekend though, I have to take my computer down to put in a new desk and re-arrange some furniture.

Few questions though, if I buy the game + soundtrack bundle direct from their site, does the game use Steam or is it stand alone. If I wanted to play with someone else that is at my house, does it have an offline LAN mode (or even a hotseat mode) or will I need the two copies/steam accounts?

From the website:

What you get with EVERY purchase:

1. A FREE full copy of the game for a friend

2. A free key to activate on Steam if you so desire - please note, Steam is not required to run the game

3. Choice of PC or Mac version

So basically, if you buy it directly from them, you CAN register it on Steam if you want to. A purchase automatically comes with two copies, but there is no LAN. But that's not really a problem the way the game is played, as long as both computers have access to the internet.

Hmm, not sure of how I feel about being able to simulate turns.

This is actually one of the best parts of the game! Not only can you simulate what your commands are, you can simulate what you THINK the AI or real opponent will do with their characters. So if you're smart and guess what they're going to do, you'll do much better. But as one reviewer said, "I know what the smartest thing for him to do is, and I know how to counter it. But is he actually that smart? And is he so smart he knows I know he’s smart?”

They ARE working on a demo, which should really help them out. There's a lot of people playing online already, though.

This game is awesome. You should definitely get it if you like turn-based strategy, strategy, or chess with guns.

Tons of great reviews on it... 5/5 Escapist, 89 PC Gamer, 95 bitgamer, etc. Here's a good video that shows the gameplay:

Skip to like 5 minutes if you want to dig right into the gameplay. 21 minutes goes into a replay of multiplayer.

I definitely understand why EA is at least trying it now. Both BF3 and SWTOR are going to be huge, and they probably won't have better time to push Origin like this in a long time.

I'm definitely in the Valve/Steam camp, but this competition MAY be good for us all. That is if EA actually tries to be better than Steam, and not just rely on exclusives.

And for those saying that Valve does the same thing that EA is doing, you're ignoring one important difference. Valve is a developer. They MIGHT have 1 game a year released. EA is a publisher, with MANY developers under their belt.

I have two games on Origin, Burnout Paradise and Mass Effect 2 (I got them both for free so I haven't bought anything off of it yet). It's not a horrible service as far as I've experienced it, but none of my friends use it, and Steam offers so much more. Plus, I like Valve as a company. They release mod tools, allow dedicated servers, and they're pro PC gaming.

I'm really curious how this is going to pan out. Should be interesting.
