how is NVidia getting away with such an obvious bullshit announcement?

PhysX/APEX are software development technologies which NVIDIA is licensing to Sony. Where's the bullshit in the announcement?

Good concept (no leveling, modern world MMO).

It may not have the typical "character levels", but everything else in the game has a level requirement. You acquire XP through questing and killing to gain points to use for skill upgrades so you may equip better gear to survive against higher level mobs... How is this different than any other MMO?

If you're talking about Gothic 3, it actually ran just fine on my system back then.

Yes, Gothic 3. Seems a fair amount of people had, or have, an issue with the stuttering. i7-920 6GB and I believe I was using a GTX 285 at that time. Seems that hardware would have been sufficient, but using a GTX 570 now and I'm curious if that'd make any difference. Eh, so many other games to play--and I still have to get through Oblivion GOTY before I pick up Skyrim. heh

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. At least I know that it is capable of running without a problem.

Does it fix the horribly shitty combat?

First and only character I made was melee and, yeah, the combat mechanic was terrible. I would have tried magic or melee, but was worried they may have been way too frustrating. IIRC, magic only had one time use spells. I'm assuming a magic user would be more like a battlemage.

I had a problem with stuttering which seemed to happen when textures loaded or objects popped into the world. It has been a while since I played last, but I did some research at the time and I had concluded that this was an intrinsic flaw of the engine. Had this been everyone's experience? Seemed as if my video settings were too high, but I'm quite sure I had experimented with them, possibly even turning everything down to absolute minimum, to no avail.

I appreciated the game's exploration aspect, though.

This site also has some "worst album covers of all time", although I don't see how the Whitesnake or Lords of Acid covers belong on the list.

Cut the cord, doesn't matter.. Comcast is slowing making their money back with ridiculous price increases. I'm paying $15 more than I was 2 years ago. $69 a month for Internet and basic cable.

They've also mentioned in that forum post that if you've previously downloaded the client, you'd need to download the entire thing again for next weekend's beta. heh

I agree completely, though I'm sure their response is likely to be something like "but it runs fine in BF3!"

Oh yeah, I should mention, the problem I was having with the bad memory would only crop up while playing Anarchy Online. Swapping to new memory resolved the issue. Seems reasonable for someone to blame the game if something like that were to happen. I'm not saying this is the case for anyone playing Skyrim, but it's just something to consider.

Did you see where they said that if you were in last weekend's (11th-13th) that your characters won't be wiped for the upcoming? I was psyched about that.

I was in last weekend's beta and leveled to 13. Glad they won't wipe characters so I can see a bit more before release.

I really hope they add mod support soon so someone can fix the terrible UI. I couldn't find any apparent way to move, resize, or adjust alpha transparency on any of the elements--not even the hotbars. Well, I could resize the chat window, but I couldn't move it from the upper left hand corner of the screen. Another thing that annoyed me was that all windows opened on the left side of the screen, unless something was already opened on the left. But after closing the left window, the right window would then move to the the left and disorient me. There were also some windows which would open on top of other windows and keep focus so you had to close them in order to see things underneath. There are only 4 hotbars and they all have predetermined positions--2 on the bottom of the screen (one above another) and one for each side of the screen. Oh, and I think the most obnoxious of all elements was the large menu bar on the top/center of the screen that you couldn't hide! The bar opened windows that you could either bind to a key or find in a menu so it was completely unnecessary. I never place anything at the top of the screen like that, so it was very distracting.

Even though I didn't like Rift, I think they have had the most customizable UI of any MMORPG I've seen without the use of mods.

Just my opinions of course, but I strongly believe most crashing issues are user error.

I don't think I have had a BSOD since I quit buying junk memory from local "computer shows" back in the day before Newegg. I remember this one particular time when I was having a lot of game crashes so I ran memtest or some such program and it detected errors. Went to the next computer show to attempt to trade in the bad memory. They tested it and their device surprisingly showed no errors. I assume some other unlucky customer ended up with it after that. Anyway, point is, I tend to think game crashes and BSOD can, at many times, be attributable to bad hardware. Improper handling without static protection can damage hardware without a detectable shock. How many people do you know handle new hardware this way? The majority in my personal experience. People also do stupid things like buying two $150 video cards just to say they have SLI when they could have bought a $300 card that would outperform the two cheaper ones without introducing more possibility for error.

I've tried overclocking a few times. Honestly, I never saw any discernible difference in real world performance.

I haven't even bothered to check out the DLC yet. Got it for free during their 2 week deal or whatever it was when it was first released, but they're now actually trying to charge $10 for it? The game itself is $20 and I think that may be overpriced, especially if no one is playing it.

If I ever try it, I'll be booting up on an isolated hard drive, virgin OS and new email (rarely if ever, checked) to avoid origin issues. Heard others were going to try to Sandbox origin, hope it works.

You won't need to use Origin according to Stephen Reid, SWTOR Senior Online Community Manager.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will not require the Origin desktop application to download, patch or play the game, regardless of whether the game was originally purchased through Origin or at a retail outlet.

They don't even have 18k yet. And I found the price of the game in their TOS:

2.4. If the condition is not described in the previous section, the final selling price in the ordinary (normal) basis will be $ 33.90 and the total amount received by the Manufacturer of pre-orders (less the costs incurred by him) will be transferred by the Manufacturer to charity (in accordance with the Manufacturer\'s declaration) .
