Honestly, I don't get the whole "offline" mode argument. Sure, you can wail about being told one thing then being offered another. This is the first time in video game history this has happened. But, honestly, if you play "solo" mode, you need the slightest internet connection for your world to ping a server every so often. And! You can switch between the two at will! I've never seen that before. Some asshole is ganking you and a system, go into solo. He's gone! Move back to online later, no need for different characters.

I agree Frontier could have handled it better, but the people who immediately declare it's a "no-buy" anymore (and 99.9% are connected to the internet at all times) is beyond insane to me. Seriously, who the hell is gonna plan to break out some solo offline mode elite: dangerous while on an airplane? And because of that "principle" you are basically robbing yourself of a game you complain doesn't get made enough.

Mohahaha pretty much maxed this thing - I've had to turn off the cargo hatch and docking computer to be able to run the weapons now.

Nice!

Not impressed with the warzone. I know I suck, but 10 mins to kill a viper for $3k. Will keep grinding.

No people yet. Is no one on the west coast? For fuck's sake. Just seeing one hollow triangle would make me wet.

I'm cool with it. Except, there's no guild function, everyone's scattered into the wind, and also scattered amongst timezones. So, perfect. One of us can be totally incompetent at a time in the world.

edit:

Aw, you edited. Wasn't trying to sound snarky...This game is weird. I can imagine if some grouping mechanic was implemented, you'd have groups of forty 15 year old assholes destroying everything raid-style. So, I kind of feel for Frontier. It would be nice to group, but I get how it could totally break the game. Also...I'd get tons of shit thrown at me for taking too long in space stations.

Got my first bug... or FSD malfunction (I have heard it can spit you out at random if it malfunctions). Unsure ?

I hyper jumped to system A. Then jumped to B. Instead of ending up at B, I ended up at C (the 3rd in my route that was planned and set up) and instead of ending up in the Nav Beacon, I ended up miles away from the star at System C, forced out of hyper space due to proximity to a star. Immediately overheating.

I have NO clue how I randomly ended up there (I skipped a system completely), but I found a gameplay mechanic I hadn't seen yet. I could not use either super cruise (in galaxy) or hyperspace jumps to get away from the Star, even though I was aligned, 100% throttle and everything retracted. I looked around, and there was an escape vector (similar symbol to an interdiction escape) that I had to supercruise through to get away from the star, before continuing to cruise elsewhere / hyperjump.

Oh I have a question. I saw a video where someone was getting interdicted (he had an Asp) and he just submitted immediately and blew the fucker up. How do you do that? I just fly sideways into the "wall", but that makes me spin out and I get shot for a few seconds while my ship is regaining control.

Reduce throttle to submit I believe.

Whoa, that's weird. Never experienced that. Did you have a route planned, then change destinations?

(submitting to interdiction thing)...d'oh, that is so obvious I never thought of it. Thank you sir!

On different topic, did anyone else notice the new frameshift charge icon? It's right underneath the "cargo scoop" part of the gui.

The blue countdown circle thing? Rather than desperately pounding the frameshift drive button when some pirate yanks you out of supercruise it's nice to be able to see when it'll be ready again. Especially when you're in a toothless hauler filled to the brim with cargo.

Has anyone seen if there is an indicator for when 'boost' comes off cooldown?

Yeah when your engine gauge fills up in the power balance meter.

That's not actually true. Once you buy an upgraded power distributor, your afterburn kicks in way earlier. My lakon 6, I can boost right around 60%. I can pretty much boost twice in a row (with a very minor pause in between).

Problem with that is it takes a valuable equipment slot. Good to know, though. Didn't realize they were taken out. I've never scooped fuel before. Flying into the sun seems wrong somehow.

Never happened to me, but I hear there is some distress beacon you can activate? Someone will rescue you, it's expensive, but probably less than a new ship.

Edit:

And since you're wanted...yeah, you're probably effed.

It usually happens on an outpost near a major station. Everyone's doing the missions, so a bunch of people deliver cargo to the same spot and have to wait around. Be sure to "enter hangar" after docking at the outpost...you can get shot to death by impatient people waiting! Or also, you know, be the one doing the shooting.

For awhile the npc ships had the same rights as players, so it was really annoying to watch those idiots slowly dock with a short mission timer running. They changed the priorities a few patches back, I haven't noticed it nearly as much since.

What do I have to swap out on my ship to have my guns not overheat so quickly? Also I was going to get a new shield but this tonnage difference make no sense to me. Does that mean my ship will be less maneuverable?

I bought a viper last night and spent quite a long time upgrading it. I think the tonnage of the ship does contribute to how maneuverable it is. Upgrading your thrusters shows that your engine power to weight gets a huge boost. Obviously, less weight means your jump distance increases. A lot of the upgrades are the same, except maybe an A rated part will way several tons less than a B.

I think you want to upgrade your power distributor, I think that's what it's called, it'll make your afterburner/weapons/shields recharge faster.

Multicannons can be fun because they don't use much power, so you don't need to upgrade your power plant. Buying ammo is the downside. You can also get away with only 1 pip in energy and put the rest in engines and/or shields.

Edit:
And damn all of you for being either on the east coast, or extremely early risers.
