Ah okay, that makes sense. Yeah, I saw you, but then you went offline. Sorry, since then I had to take care of some fatherly duties, so I'm just getting back now, which means you're probably offline.

Ooohh...so we have to meet up at events? Hmm. Ok. Sorry, this was my first time actually interfacing with a person in game. Thanks for that btw!

If you see X station, any conflict / capital ship near it will also say X station I believe.

I'm really not trying to be an asshole, but this sentence makes no sense to me. I don't understand how that helps me find you. All I can tell is that you are in the same system.

I always liked the orbit rings. Felt like, ya know, an overlay showing gravity wells onto my ship's holographic UI. Cool. Then again, I work in FX for a living and am currently blowing up buildings while Tony Stark and the Hulk fight.

But, ok. Toggles are good. I'll try it and see if if makes any difference, other than taking pretty screenshots. I'd imagine it's really confusing in supercruise without them.

Turrets are auto firing, if your target gets close they fire, front/back is for which angle they cover. Fixed, gimballed and turrets are the 'types' of weapons you can use.

I tried to land on a friendly capital ship to make it shoot at my attacker... capital ships do not work that way.

Awesome, thanks for the info! It's been one of the many questions I had, but never managed to look up an answer.

...and lol on your cap ship attempt. I love creative attempts that backfire spectacularly.

Should I be using point defense or chaff for anti missile ?

point-defence is anti missile.

chaff is anti-gimballed guns.

Pick your poison.

Though, afaik, no one uses missiles except for haulers. They are too expensive for ammo, and if you have point defence they are out right countered.

But, most players now are using gimballed weapons. Ever notice how your sights start randomly spiraling around? Chaff.

Also, if you plan on fighting big ships...cannons are awesome. You have to aim them (I don't think there's a gimbaled version), so against small fighters they are useless unless you are a total badass. Against big ships, you almost cannot miss. And they are similar to railguns...they *pulverise* subsystems.

Interesting...maybe they changed it again? Gamma was nuts with them switching out stuff. Maybe they reduced the damage and took away the rounds.

I used a Fragmentation Cannon. Turns out, *surprise!* it's a shotgun! Super awesome damage to hull at close range. Said range is so annoyingly close that I sold it back at took another gimballed multicannon.

I agree, I don't know what the "turret" stuff means. I have noticed in the right panel there's always been an option to set turrets to "facing forward" or something, but no idea what the practical use was.

The other tricky thing they introduced is the torpedo cannons. They are super cheap! Do tons of damage! But...the ammo costs more than your ship (hyperbole, but not by much). Beware.

They did nerf it. It used to be totally energy dependent. Two shots would zap your energy capacitor (this was before upgrades where implemented, so everyone was flying with A grade components).

Now, it uses ammunition as well. AFAIK, it's rocks or something, but still, you're limited to 30 rounds or so.

I'm no pro, but from what I've gathered through the beta/gammma phase is that railguns totally own against subsystems. They are shielded, but wear down like you'd expect. The thing is it doesn't seem like you're affected the enemy ship much...which is true. But! Once you blow that thing up, the whole ship explodes. Railguns are total damage monsters.

It's easier for pirates/murderers, because you can line up and place several shots on the target before they have a chance.

If you think about it, the Anaconda is total armor. So shooting at a subsystem is the only real course you have...unless you want to spend 40 minutes killing it. It's another aspect to the game, large vs small ship combat.

Also a good way to take out a cobra. The subsystems are easily targeted. The more you know...

Killed my first Anaconda.

Jumped out at some USS with a wanted Anaconda, wanted ASP and allied forces ship. Got the Anaconda to around 70% and attacked and finished off the very battered ASP. Sucker didn't see that one coming from a while away.
Started shooting at the Anaconda again and gut it to under 50%
Then the Allied forces ship blew up. Took a deep breath and started slowly backing away from the Anaconda. Keeping it to between 2.8 and 3.2 km away from me, shooting and it and doing jack shit... tried to figure out a new plan.
Then two allied Vipers jumped in and we killed it off.
Strangely enough the Anaconda was still at 3% when it blew up and when I received my bounty of 43K.

I think I watched a video of a guy doing this singleplayer mission with the Anaconda, but... I don't think the Anaconda there had beam lasers which makes a HUGE difference. Although I get the feeling that the sluggish Cobra is not the best way but the only things more manoeuvrable are the Sidewinder and the Eagle. And those won't last long against beam lasers AT ALL.

Blew up an Anaconda and still have no idea how to kill them.
I guess you need several people. Guess I won't be hunting for those in anarchy systems then...

[edit]
Or use rockets. I dunno. Only have lasers. Hmm...

Subsystems, my friend. If a powerplant dies, the ship dies. I think 4 railshots to a powerplant kills anything in the game. Anacondas are ridiculously easy to target and approach.

Soon there will be people complaining that a pirate killed them instantly...this is how that happened.

Edit:
Also probably a major reason why Frontier doesn't have advanced grouping mechanics implemented in the game.

This time I'm sticking with my viper with 0 cargo space :)
I was thinking of doing the same with my Viper.
Currently running it without fuel scoop so that I can have the docking computer.
Not that I've had any issues docking myself but this is so much more convenient and sometimes quicker too.

The Cobra however is a better ship imo
Hence the cost of almost 3X the Viper

My viper kills shit. That is all. I sold my cobra for the lakon 6, but immediately regretted that decision. I'm tired of trading, so doing combat with my viper. Nowhere near the money, but I think the extraction points are now the areas to bounty hunt. And, like SpectralMeat said...just flying around with the viper engines scream at you when you slow down....is just fucking awesome. That incGamers review that gave ED a 7/10 on sound needs to be dealt with.

I think I will get a hauler and set it up for mining. Mining with the Cobra just seems so wrong lol
I wanted to get a hauler to run transport missions anyways to take a bit of a brake from the combat.

Well, the Cobra is an all purpose ship.
I think the biggest advantage is the larger cargo hold although I'm a bit upset because I haven't found a single station that sells cargo racks larger than 4. That means I cannot upgrade the slots in my Cobra to get more cargo space and the default 18 still seems to be very little.

Maybe I'll bounty hunt until I get a million credits to get that Type 6 after all...

The general consensus on the Elite forums is that the hauler is a TERRIBLE mining ship. I think it's because you can only fit one weapon, so it'd leave you completely defenseless. Also, the hauler is really slow, you'd be racing to scoop rocks before they self-destruct.

I'd go with a cobra for mining and as others were saying all purpose stuff. As for upgrading your cargo bays, stations do sell higher capacity versions. I think I finally found mine in an industrial station, the high tech ones don't always seem to carry them.

The type 6 is pretty sweet, but it's obviously only for trading. I'd recommend everyone buying a cobra and at least storing it somewhere.

My viper is a pale comparison to Lorcin, but, holy hell, I just cleared out a high intensity combat zone BY MYSELF. "pats back" then prepares to die. Again, no humans.

I was stalking you, albeit poorly. In Sobargo. (was only 60Ly away!)

I seen you were at an outpost (valley?). Went there couldn't see you. Checked out the low conflict nearby you weren't there and so I took out a pyhton (agree, 3000cr is real low for that... those things are pretty tough) and left.

I then seen you were at Heinke(?) station. I went there. No dice, I checked out the capital ship nearby (WOW! those interdictors are insane. Must see more capital ships.) got scared and went to the station. I should have looked further the high conflict was aright next to it lol... poor stalking. I would have messaged but I was only on for a short time.

I seen 2 humans... 1 came to the station as I was leaving it, so I darted out to i.d him and say hello. He promptly turned at hyper jumped away from my viper. I only wanted to say hi.

Ooookay, that's creepy. But, hey, whatever! Friends! I'm currently in Sorbago killing shizzle. I'm totally in empire mode, so if I shoot you that's why. I'll try not to.

Edit:
Awesome that someone is tracking me from Bluesnews.
