There's zero technical reason to not make DX12 for earlier Windoze versions. It's simply the carrot MS dangles to try and get people to suscribe to their Windows as a service/we own all your data model they're trying to establish. No fucking thank you. I'll quit gaming before I embrace that shit.

You - XYZ corporation - don't need to know anything about me. I know you want to, but you don't need to. As far as I'm concerned the our entire relationship is nothing more than you providing me with a product that I pay for once and own and that's it. I'm not interested in monthly services/renting. And there is no free upgrade because there are no free lunches. If a company expects something in return it ain't free.

I've been waiting for someone to come up with a reverse-engineered/"cracked" DX12 for Win7. It would probably take a lot of work, but I'm not upset if it never happens. Really nothing that's DX12-only has come close to enticing me thus far. Pretty sure I could live without one that did entice me though to avoid having to infect my machine with Win10.

I've played through the whole game.

At first I was just playing in short stints, but somewhere along the way I got hooked and started playing it avidly. I don't think this game's for everyone (especially if you hate back tracking), but if you like most of the other 451 games (Bioshock, System Shock, Deus Ex, etc.) this is along those lines in terms of gameplay. More of a shooter focus on this one, but with a somewhat unique plot that starts off... lets just say there's an early "A-Ha!" moment, but there's yet more layers to the plot than that.

In the end I liked this one. Really good, bordering on great.. but not omgamazeballz. Excellent ending IMO (stay past the credits).

Ending? You mean endings. There are multiple.

I had Logitechs for years as my hands are large.
Went to replace one 7 or so years ago & all they had were Razer Deathadders that suited my size so thought what the hell.
Best mouse ever.
With my recent upgrades I have been trying to find an excuse to replace the same said mouse but it's as good as the day I bought it, amazing for it's light construction. The only advantage in going to the new Deathadder is two more buttons behind the scroll wheel which could be useful in BF1.
I recently looked at Mumbas & other brands but if you look at reviews from Deathadder owners there is no going back.
Mouse pads play a big part in the performance, I'm loath to replace my worn older version Razer Goliathius "fast" surface. I bought it with the mouse & it's basicly just an unstitched 5mm pad of wetsuit material. Now they are stitched, thinner & too slick, people complain of the stitching affecting their wrist in long gaming sessions so I'm sticking with what works.
The mouse & mouse pad can affect your wrist, arm & neck health dramatically.

After years of using trackballs of various design, I don't understand why more people don't use them. Personally, I can't stand using a regular mouse, and I wonder how other people put up with them for so long, especially wired ones. Pick-up-and-drag is annoying and tiresome on the wrist. And if you use a mousepad, and you're always running off the edge... The worst!

On a positive note, I just picked up Prey 2017 for thirty bucks. Holy shit it's totally worth it. I mean, it starts out slowly, but I play my games slowly anyway, scrounging every little nook and cranny to try and find every little thing.

Congratulations ;)! You'll be able to finish the main story in about 5 hours (I don't know if side missions count), while visiting the same 10 plus maps over and over in a backtracking record that beats SS2 easily to stretch out a short game. You might like it nevertheless if you liked SS2 because it's basically SS3 :)...

I'm already into it WELL over 5 hours, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. Like I said though, I like to take my time with games like this. I get into the story. I notice the details. I don't just blaze through it hoping to reach the end ASAP. I feel that's the way the devs want me to play it.

The thing about this game that wasn't immediately apparent to me when I first started, even after watching numerous people play it on YouTube, is just how free you are to approach any puzzle or even the game itself. There's no linearity, and you can pretty much do what you want, and the only obstacles are ones that you need to level up an ability to overcome. The maps don't feel so much like "backtracking" so much as continued exploration, because the place changes and evolves as the story unfolds. Additionally, being in a place that really feels like a place, rather than a temporary set piece that you meander through once and then move on, really helps aid the feeling of immersion as you start to know, understand, and become familiar with this place and what's happening there. It's almost like another character in the story itself because it's always there with you, changing as you influence it.

I think it's great the way the devs have tried to make it feel like a breathing environment that has history and character. The constant tension in the atmosphere is another thing I love that I haven't really seen in any other game ever. Or at least not since the 90s.

Razer is absolute TRASH. I hope they go out of business. Been ripping millions of people off with their garbage products for years. Fuck them.

Also, I LOOOOOOVE my thumbballs. I'll never ever go back to a regular pedestrian mouse. For years, I've used the Logitech M570, and before that, wired versions of the same basic design. Best thing ever crafted by humans... At least until I discovered the Elecom wireless thumbball.

So now I use an M570 at work, and the Elecom at home. The thing is a masterpiece. M-XT4DRBK. There are other models (XT2, XT3...) but the XT4 is the newest and best. The others look the same but perform differently and the function of the button to the right of the "right" mouse button is different. It's programmable on the XT4. I set mine to double-click. Oh, and I use a blue ball from an M570 in place of the gray one that comes with the Elecom, as it's smoother and works much better. Oddly, they're the same exact size.

Oh, and I replaced the switches with some better ones made by Cherry. I just soldered them in place of the factory ones the Elecom comes with because those are a little too soft for my taste, and it was difficult getting used to without accidental clicks.

These are the switches I ordered, in case anybody cares. I also replace all the switches in my M570s with these. I love them. The switches Logitech uses tend to fail after several months. Had it happen on two different M570s. These Japanese switches are much higher quality and feel and sound nicer too.

Even from the trailers I've seen, I knew I probably wouldn't like it. Didn't look that good to me, and seemed very underwhelming. Never really had me interested. Plus, multiplayer-only is pretty meh.

On a positive note, I just picked up Prey 2017 for thirty bucks. Holy shit it's totally worth it. I mean, it starts out slowly, but I play my games slowly anyway, scrounging every little nook and cranny to try and find every little thing. Hell, I spent like 300 hours on my first Witcher 3 playthrough. I spent the first 15 minutes or so in this game just picking up shit and throwing it around, gleefully entertained by the fun physics of everything. I digress. It's picking up in pace, and I haven't quite gotten to the "OH MY WORD THIS IS GOTY" sentiment of many Steam reviews I've read, but it's pretty much proven it's worth the $30. Dunno about the $60 that it's selling for on Steam though. But then, I don't think any game is really worth that much, with rare exception.

Tacoma is also the ghetto of Seattle. I don't even like going there. I don't know if I could sit through a game that's constantly reminding me of it.

This is evidently fixed, but GTA Online was unplayable for almost the entirety of yesterday, except in the morning.

They should make this a feature. One that crashes hackers the second the server detects that a client is trying to dictate the state of another client. 3 crashes in one day = perma-ban. Then they could lower the price of in-game shit due to all the hackers having to buy new keys for the game. Win-win.

Yet another reason to hate Windows 10. As if I needed another...

I am forced to use 10 at work, and it fucking hinders me greatly. I hate it. I use three monitors, including the one on the laptop itself. 10 never remembers window locations on lock and unlock. Actually, it's odd because rarely it does remember just fine, but 95% of the time, it forgets.

Windows Explorer often fucks up and forgets about alt+tab, so I have to restart Explorer, which of course closes any folder windows I had open.

I have my taskbar on all three screens set up to auto-hide, and it's two notches tall. Every time I come back from the lock screen, I have to do a workaround to get the auxiliary taskbars to auto-hide. They forget that they're supposed to do this, and stay on screen until I right click the clock and enable and then disable search/Cortana (it will say search instead of Cortana if you entirely disable Cortana as I have done), and then it will go back to auto-hiding again. It also often forgets to be two ticks tall. And not uncommonly, one or more of the taskbars will be basically blank until I do this as well.

There are others in the list, but these are the main annoyances I have to deal with constantly. I lock my PC every time I leave my desk, and most of these crop up when returning from a lock screen. Rearranging all my windows on my screens and fixing the fucking auto hide alone waste a lot of my time that would be better spent working rather than hindered by my shitty OS. Windows 7 for eternity for me until Linux starts not sucking for gaming.
How often do you restart that box (i don't mean shutting it down and turning it back on, because that does not do the same thing since the advent of Windows 8)

Makes zero difference.
