And that big fat dummy Mac said it's not worth a buy simply because he didn't like the fun combat (and after playing for only a short time). Fuck his stupid ass. Game of the decade, easily. I can't watch his videos anymore.

Interestingly they did make a modification to combat in which he shit on.

His credibility took a nosedive in my eyes. He didn't even give the game a chance or give it time to learn how it works. He had never played a Witcher game before, so he had no idea what he was getting into. He goes in expecting something different because it's a game unlike pretty much anything else out there.

Then he plays for barely any time at all, says stupid shit like "horses shouldn't automatically follow the trail"--even though that's actually entirely realistic. A horse will actually do that in real life; until you tell it where to go, it will instinctually follow paths and roads. Or shit like "I should be able to cancel this motion instead of waiting for the animation to complete." Really, Mac? That was seconds after you said the game was arcadey, console bullshit, but then you suggest adding in more arcade shit just because you don't understand how the fuck it works? Can a real swordsman just stop mid-swing? I don't think so.

Mac's a fucking dipshit.

I wonder what the enterprise versions does here? A home user may or may not care all that much, but a lot of companies will care and I'd have to think MS knows that and then I think the enterprise version may have greatly reduced tracking. And if true, then that will be thee version to have.

Totally something to continue to watch, this will all be clear soon enough by IT professionals and published.

I'm sticking with my Enterprise version of 7 because fuck 10 square in the butthole.

The tool they mentioned from Microsoft worked well for me, seems less hassle than the manual method. I also went the clean install route, which involved upgrading first, verifying that my key had been registered as "genuine", copying down the new key, and then doing the 'clean install from a USB method'. I did notice with the delete everything upgrade choice there were still some files in my base c:\, and I suspect some of the old win 8 drivers were reused. I didn't do anymore digging to see what, if anything else, was left behind.

So far so good, only issue I'm having is firefox crashing when I open a newtab (ctrl+t). If I change the behavior to display a blank page or my home page it works. If I start firefox in safe-mode (firefox's safe-mode) it works. Having addons installed doesn't seem to effect it either way. I'll try to suss out what's going on more later today. Any insights are welcome though.

Set your homepage to http://www.google.com

Turning off hardware acceleration seemed to fix the problem; I don't know why I didn't try that first, it seems to solve a lot of problems with Firefox... I actually like the frequently visited sites tab, slightly more convenient than using bookmarks.

Good to know. Glad you fixed it. Maybe there are some drivers you need to reinstall or possibly they're buggy with W10.

Seriously? We've reverted to Win 3.1 days? Wow.

... No?

If you have anything overclocked and you have any problem... if that isn't the first thing you disable you don't know WTF you are doing. Disconnecting unnecessary USB devices during an OS install is just good practice.

This is not necessary unless you are having problems completing the install. I've done the upgrade to 7 machines so far and this wasn't necessary on any of them so far. I have had 1 machine seemingly "hang" during the last part of the installation, but 1 reboot brought it right back into the setup and it completed fine.

My point was, that's something you used to have to do many many many years ago. I've done tons of installs and system builds, and I've never had that issue since like the friggin DOS days.

And if your overclock breaks a software install, your overclock is unstable.

I've often thought that Nvidia could be deliberately manipulating their drivers in order to reduce performance in such a way that their cards still outperform AMD but don't take full advantage of the cards so that people are forced or compelled to upgrade more often. People will come back and say that the cards are tacked out at 100% usage on the GPU and VRAM so it would appear that my thoughts are invalid, but how can we be sure that it's all legit and not some kind of bloatware or something in the driver or planted in the games that Nvidia helps the devs with. It's actually a brilliant strategy from a corporate point of view if it's true.

It's really not that far fetched.

Games just get more complex. That has nothing to do with the drivers causing the card to underperform. That does not happen. My videocard is 5 years old, and still performs just as well as it did the day I bought it. It runs tons of games at maximum, 1440p well into the triple digit framerates. Obviously, newer titles won't run as smoothly on older hardware, but that's the nature of technology. This card still runs newer titles impressively well though, so I'd say there is absolutely zero merit to that paranoid delusion of a conspiracy theory. I've heard it told before too. It's simply not true.

I agree with many of you, it's an outstanding game but man if you want to finish it all I hope you have like 500+ hours...LOL
143 hours on my first playthrough and that was completing all the side quests, witcher contracts, and treasure hunts. That didn't include exploring everything though, probably another 30+ hours just for that.

i did it all in 142hours to be excat, so many of ? are a waste of time, and lots of them you cant get to until you do the quest attached to it.

Many of them can only be found by running across them accidentally. Just exploring reveals more quests that you wouldn't have otherwise known about. Inconsequential, sure, but still fun, to me.

So much content I'm in no hurry to rush through the game. I'll probably be playing it off and on all year. No problem with that. Ironically, after trying the new movement system I quickly switched back to the default.

I haven't noticed any difference. I'm still not sure how the new movement system changes anything...

Also, the new controls scheme is MUCH better.

*DITTO* on this^ - I'm much happier with enabling alternate controls. I almost wish they had enabled it by default, as it's much improved.

I feel like Geralt is less... confused?

While I didn't really have a problem with the way Geralt moved before, I do like the more responsive alternate system now, which basically feels like Witcher 2.

Framerate hasn't changed that much for me, as I was already sitting at 50fps, but I am able to have hairworks at 8x instead of 4x with everything else maxed. The single biggest boost though is foilage draw distance. Drop that to medium instead of max and I gain 10fps. So with everything maxed except that I'm sitting at an average of 50fps.

Yeah I was fine with the way it was before. I enabled the alternate mode and didn't notice anything different. Can someone point it out for me? Maybe I just play differently than everyone else or something, somehow.

This game is awesome. Freakin' game of the decade. So glad I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. XD I never do that, and this is one game that actually lived up to its hype. I'm about 70 hours in, and there's still so much more to do. It says 31% complete. I just got to Skellige. I've been taking my sweet-ass time fuckin around with all the content this beast of a game has to offer.

Fucking idiots who think biological sensors utilize anything close to resembling a "frame rate" do not belong in any kind of discussion whatsoever, related or not. You lack the grey matter to participate.

Precisely. The maximum "frame rate" you can see is not some fixed fucking number. It depends on a huge number of factors and varies wildly from person to person. For example, sit someone in front of a dark screen and flash a white frame at them at 30fps, 60fps, 90fps, 500fps, they are still going to be able to see that frame. Sit them in front of a white screen and flash a black frame at them. They'll probably not be able to discern that one frame as quickly. Rods vs cones, dark vs light, blah blah blah.

It all depends on how you measure it, the rate of change between the frames, the brightness, the colors involved, the responsiveness of that person's particular non-standard slimy biological optical sensor, and so on.

Anyone trying to give you a maximum FPS eyes can see is a fucking retard who is grossly misinformed. Particularly anyone telling you that you can't see the difference between 30, 60, 120 fps, etc. considering it's trivial to slap 30fps gameplay next to 60fps gameplay and see the difference side-by-side.

I think a lot of it stems from these kids who grew up after super fast displays went out of the norm. Now they game on fucking slow, cheap, shitty LCD monitors that you can't as easily discern a difference in feel between different framerates. I still game on a 13 year old CRT (Sony FW-900), and it's arguably one of the best monitors ever built. No such thing as input lag or even really screen tearing on that badboy at 1440p. I feel like it really helps my competitiveness in twitch shooters.

Had these kids experienced that kind of display, they'd be more open to the concept of higher framerates = better. I'm looking into upgrading soon to one of the new 48" curved 4k quantum dot displays from Samsung, but I'm a little worried about how jarring the transition will be in going to a 60hz display. I'll probably keep both displays side by side, at least for a while. I think (hope) the improvement in immersion would trump any negative effects felt from going from a fast display to a "slow" one.
