Guaranteed to get boring after an hour or two of seeing a bunch of the same shit over and over. Hollow, soulless, and ultimately a tech demo full of novelty.

I don't know what kind of age limits there are on holding a seat in the FCC (if any), but maybe we could start by changing the age requirements for the United States Presidency from minimum 35 to minimum 21, maximum 45. We could do similarly with other branches and positions.

That would help bring government around to more accurately representing the future rather than the past. Get all these old, clueless fucks that time left behind the fuck out of positions of power.

Wow! Will they piss off PC gamers by never re-releasing it?!
No, of course they'll re-release it. There's tens of millions of dollars in sales at stake here, plus contractual relationships with NVIDIA and the like. Fixing it will be much cheaper than losing out on all of those sales.

They've already lost out on nearly all of those sales, and that's not even talking about the potential sales they might have made from wait-and-seers who will never even consider it now.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Consoles ruin gaming. It's not even an exaggeration at this point.

Wait what happens if I buy a pair of 980 Ti's now? What free game are they going to replace it with in those promos? :O

The original games (The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey) enjoyed a bit of a niche audience themselves. They were excellent games, but I haven't played any of the Chapters. I don't want to spoil the feelings I have for the first games. But I bet that's the same kind of audience these have. They're not really expecting to hit a wide array of gamers here.

Lul. 30fps on PC. No thanks. I called it a long time ago when the first trailer came to BN. I said it looked horribly console-y but I couldn't quit place my finger on why. Thanks, AMD, for ruining gaming for everyone. I really wish the consoles were far more powerful than they are.

Well, atleast it seems an AMD card could be better in the long run, atleast when looking at Witcher 3, where the 780 and 780Ti performs really badly compared to 290 and 290x. The 290 even beats the 780Ti.

In the long run? With a mere 4gb of frame buffer and no ability to play on large screens in 4k? Yeah. That's the future alright. XD

More From John Carmack on D3D Quake
I got an email from John Carmack that cleared up a misconception that I had (and I would guess others had too), which was that Direct3D Quake would have been an option for owners of current 3D video cards:

D3D quake is indeed canned. But this should not have any impact on current 3D card owners.

The only current card that would have been fast enough to run D3Dquake is 3dfx, and they can run glquake.

Glquake is implemented with blended lighting instead of surface caching, which gives a more level framerate at the expense of pushing twice as many pixels. The low end cards (S3, ATI, etc) have less than a third of the fill rate of 3DFX on real world data, so they would have been hard pressed to hit 15 fps running glquake/d3dquake. Anyone with one of these cards that was holding out for the D3D version would have been very dissapointed.

A custom, on-the-metal port to these cards might have been able to give performance almost as good as vquake (verite has exceptional potential for optimization if you go to the trouble, which compensates somewhat for the reletively low fill rates), but I don't think it is worth it.

The next generation of most vendors cards should be fast enough to run glquake and derivitives. Tell them they should support OpenGL.

John Carmack

Lul. Oh how far we've come.

They've always had shitty drivers, even when they were still ATi. It's no wonder their graphics segment is going down the tubes. Kinda sucks because then we have no other alternative, and nVidia won't have any pressure or reason to keep the prices down.

Their new cards don't even support large format 4k displays. Do they need to give people more reasons to not buy their cards? God damn.

Welp, so much for buying either one now. I had been considering PC1, but now that they're already moving onto a new game? Fuck that. Bye bye, Slightly Mad. I won't be buying any of your products.

they stated that the FuryX is running very cool, and is a overclockers dream. so I don't think heat will be a problem. And that is contradicting your statement about them pushing the clocks..
And according to reviews of the "new" 390X is running cooler than a lot of the nvidia's
MSI Radeon R9 390X Gaming 8G OC review - Graphics Card Temperatures

AMD have said the the Fury X will be an "overclockers dream", stating that their water cooler is capable of dissipating 500W of thermal energy, while the R9 Fury X only has a TDP of 275W while under maximum load.

Um... Of COURSE it's cooler. It is fucking liquid cooled. They won't make an air-cooled version because the thing would burn itself up.

In Skyrim in particular, I kept installing mods thinking it could "make the experience better" but it felt kind of shallow and largely headache inducing when it broke my saves.

Same damn shit happened to me, and I'm unsure what to do about it. I kinda wanna finish the game, but I haven't been back to it for many months. :\

As far as all this buildup and hype goes, I learned long ago never to board the hype train. 99% of the time, when a game has this much PR lip service, it usually ends up terrible. The one exception to this trend that I can think of is The Witcher 3. However, it seems like every time there's all this bullshit flying around like "OMFG THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST THING EVER," it usually falls extremely short of that mile marker. I never understood the attraction to Fallout anyway. I could never really get into it and it didn't really impress me, so I don't even get why all this hype exists in the first place.

AMD's conference was painful to watch. I hadn't seen one of their presentations before so I don't know if that's the norm for them, but it was pretty terrible. I don't trust that their new generation cards are anything special, and if anything, I worry about their heat generation with them feeling the need to ship the highest end offering with a liquid cooling solution. Ouch.

That's because they had to push the clocks so damn high in order to have a chance at competing. HBM probably also generates a fair amount of heat on its own. I don't think the 980 Ti really has anything to worry about.
