4. Re: Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - Winds of Magic Released Aug 13, 2019, 13:46 Gas Bandit

Can confirm, as a die-hard vermintide fan - this update is crap. Costs twice as much as any previous DLC, only one new map (I was already kind of miffed that the Bogenhafen DLC only had TWO maps), raises the level cap to 35 but instead of adding another set of talents, it just takes away the level 30 talents and puts them back at 35, so it just increases the grind.

Throw in that it's buggy AF and has a whole lot of "rebalancing" that everybody hates, and all in all, this might be what kills the game, and maybe even the series.

I'm so psyched. I love this game, I loved the first vermintide game, and I played the hell out of L4D and L4D2 - especially in versus mode.

I can't wait.

You hear that? That crumbling, cracking sound? That's kickstarter collapsing after all confidence in it being undermined by this.

RIP Crowdfunding.

I enjoy this greatly, I was in the beta. I just wish it had some of the more popular songs from the 80s and 90s. But it's still fun.

Now, Rami is coming off like a little bitch here, granted, and I'm a staunch anti-exclusives guy (and there's no such thing as a steam exclusive)... but I have to say this is probably the right way to phrase it to try to pressure Valve into the only possible positive outcome of this epic store nonsense - and that is, getting developers a larger share percentage of their sales revenue on Steam.

If that happens, it'll be good for everyone. Devs will get more money and all the me-too platforms like Epic and the Discord store will dry up as the devs flock back to the massive userbase on Steam, and us consumers won't have to keep 3-4 steam-alikes loaded in memory just to play our games.

I love this game so much. I bought it at launch, and have bought every DLC that's come out so far, and plan to buy the next one that comes out this summer, too.

It carries on the torch of co-op games like Left 4 Dead, and the lore and atmosphere is rich and engaging. Gameplay is fun and the weapons are oh-so-satisfying to use, cleaving through hordes of ratmen or lopping off the heads of angry Chaos marauders. Good fun with friends.

Sorry to be OT now, but how did you get your post subject line to be
# Rape Day
when the actual THREAD subject line is
# RAPE DAY

(notice upper and lower case)

From my experience, things like these mean something in your browser is doing things it shouldn't.

The bizarre thing is I had to edit the subject to even say that. When I reply in this thread, it autopopulates the subject field to... well, look at THIS post, I won't fix it this time.

Ah, the Lastpass autofill bug, or rather an autofill bug, that you can fix with lastpass.

See here, https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=7256

Very easy to fix for Bluesnews at least.
Ah, thanks for the info.

"We then have to make a judgement call about any risk it puts to Valve, our developer partners, or our customers."

Because if someone were to play this game they would die instantly. Or something.

I really hate bullshit talk.

You don't understand what corporate-speak means when it says "risk."

It doesn't mean actual danger.

It means the risk of losing money.

Basically, Valve is saying "we can't be 100% assured that our involvement with this game won't actually COST us money, so we aren't going to put up with the hassle."

Nobody (not even Valve) cares if a game is bad for you or hurts you, unless of course it might come back around to bite them in the wallet in some way.

News Comments > RAPE DAY Steam Listing

41. Re: Rape Day Steam Listing Mar 5, 2019, 14:25 Gas Bandit

I'd say that the reason why games involving murder seem "more ok" than those involving rape is because everyone already agrees murder is bad in all (real) circumstances, and there's no ambiguity or equivocation about it.

Sadly, that's not the case with forced or coerced sex. Many people will still just consider it "boys being boys," or look the other way if the rapist is a star football player for their local team with a promising future. There are hundreds of stories out there about women and girls who were silenced, ostracized, or worse to protect their rapist - sometimes by entire towns or communities.

The truth is, while some might argue that murder is worse than rape, it is undeniable that rape is a much more sensitive subject than murder.

Sort of like how it's not as bad as murder to, say, mock the mentally challenged or disabled. It's not as bad as murder to be loudly, vocally racist.

But you will hear a whole lot more outcry if and when games are made that involve doing those things.

News Comments > Boycott May Cause Next Metro Game to Skip PC

24. Re: Metro Exodus Epic Deal Sparks Backlash Feb 2, 2019, 13:30 Gas Bandit

I didn't even want to install steam in the first place. I'm not installing EpicSteam or EASteam or UbiSteam or BlizzSteam on top of that. I put up with one already - the one with the most market share. As far as I am concerned, if it isn't on steam (or GOG which doesn't require me to run/keep open their marketplace software), I've done my due diligence and am in the clear to hoist the jolly roger.

Between greedy publishers trying to pull their stuff off netflix to force their own exclusive subscription services, and now PC game "exclusives," we're all set for a second golden age of piracy. Can't wait to play Satisfactory for free.

I'm not installing another marketplace. I already have one more than I want.

Exclusives are bad for consumers. It was awful on consoles, and now it's awful on PC.

Stardock kinda acting sketchy about all this, but on the other hand, I remember that Paul and Fred straight up disappeared on Accolade back during Star Control 2 development, and Accolade had to hire a PI to frickin track them down, eventually finding them in Alaska, where they apparently finished the game in ways that were way different than what was in the manual.

So... it's also not hard for me to believe that Paul and Fred are spazztastic tinfoil-hat batshit crazy unmedicated psychos on an insane rant parade.

Oh man, I haven't played this since 2006. I bet it has not aged well! Heh.

I wonder if my old house is still there? Probably not. I only had the rent paid up for 8 or so years I think, and I don't think my server (Guinevere) even exists any more.
