I can't help but feel sorry for VUgames. They have a great franchise on their hands, but they can't seem to capitalize on it. Steam distribution probably took a nice piece of the pie... Valve is one disagreeable cookie to bite on, and probably not at all how the VU exectutives were thinking about rolling and swimming in cash when they acquired the publishing rights.
HL is 100% completely Valve's sure. I understand that. But through steam distribution, the consumer misses out on the box, art, manual, cd, etc which probably factors at least 20% of the normal price of a game. Then theres the other aspects; mass production, distribution, advertising etc. All thats stripped away, but it still costs $50 on steam.
Point is both sides are greedy, but one side got stiffed.
