Yes, sense of nostaglia comes rushing back. Is Loki the mod/mappack from which came the McKinley map? Favorite map of mine along with another one which I can't remember the name anymore. I've read at some point that they will remake that map for Q3 but I've never seen it. Who is doing the CTF stuff for Q4 again?

Wow just from reading all these comments, I think I might just give ET a try. Its a dry phase for gaming until the 18th of this month anyway.

Its going to have CTF? As in Q2CTF? OMG I'm so in. I hope they bring back some old map favorites, McKinley anyone? Now I'm getting really excited.

And yes I'll agree with those who said Doom was a good game with a great atmosphere.

October is good for gamers month. Id has always dictated my PC upgrades and this will not be an exception. Btw, is Quake Wars sold as a seperate game? Or will it be a delayed mod release for Q4? Sorta like DoDS for HL2?

Not to mention that TFTD was also insanely tough. You had some weapons that only worked underwater and enemies that were also highly damage resistant, like lobster men. The psionic stuff was brutal. Also, remember the cruise ship maps? Holy god, they had like 8 levels and you had to use the same team in every single one. A lot of the time I would get to the last level with only 1 or 2 marines. Now that's a freaking challenge.

Lol that was where the fun was. I was totally in awe at how massive and well crafted and detailed the cruise ships were. Of course, with a map of that size and so many units, it was not uncommon for my poor 486sx 33Mhz to chug for 5-10 mins during the alien's movement turn. :-D

The mention of lobstermen really brings back memories. I remember sacraficing 3 marines just to stun one lobster. Then using my last barely alive marine to stuff it in backpack and run back to the ship. Only way I could get one for interrogation, and interrogate him I did!

Thanks for clarifying the two upcoming games Slaughter. I always thought they were made by the same company. Btw, that Collectors Edition UFO, is there a version for Terror from the Deep? I still prefer the underwater one the best heh.

Lol RacingSloth beat me to the "please be good" post. Was going to say the same thing. Anyway, over the weekend I found my old Xcom diskettes and searched the internet for ways to replay the originals. This tool, dosbox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net), does it and in fact does it very well. Play it in a window or full screen with sound etc. I was so afraid I had to go in and set my sound card irq and dma settings, but I was pleasantly surprised (not as surprised as finding the diskettes and being able to read off them and install the game).

Very sad. Same goes for the really awesome Freespace series. 1 and 2 were both incredibly good, but I hear due to publishing/licensing issues, the developers were not allowed to make a sequel. They left the story hanging in 2 too.

Just another xcom fan voicing out here. Loved the originals, although I'm the oddball who likes TFTD bettern than UFO. Anyway, yes, I would like to know what happened to the series? Apocalyse sucked, and aftermath didn't do it for me. I don't think I'll be giving aftershock a shot.

This game was good, but not memorable. Its just a quick get in and out, finish and uninstall game. It was decent. My biggest gripe is a bug that causes horrible the framerates for Nvidia 6600 series card users. Supposedly it runs flawlessly on ATI cards. My system isn't the fastest, P4 2.8 w/ 6600GT and throughout the whole game I got on average 17-20fps. Not to mention the graphics engine is old and looks somewhat dated. Coop MP might be fun though I haven't tried it.

I played CoD and the original MoH but when BiA I was bored of WW2 FPS, and ultimately skipped it. BiA any good?

I really hope the SW RTS will be good. There hasn't been a strategy title for that universe that has even been halfway decent. Plus Westwood or what remains of it hasn't redeemed itself since Tiberium Sun.

Yes back in July, they had annouced the released date was already set to 11/15. So this isn't new.
The thing that had always irked me about Civ games has been the UI. Too much information displayed at times, and controls and menus were not intuitive. In this release, they say everything, including whole cities are displayed on the map and the interface is streamlined, context sensitive, etc. Thats enough to get me excited. Can't wait. This or Quake 4? What am I going to do?

I've used MS mice since intellimouse 1.1 and I happen to like them over all others. Currently using the corded 3.0a still. Yes yes old school, but if its working why changed it?

I keep hearing how good logitechs are, and believe me I've tried many of them. I even have two logitechs at home one wireless and one corded. But still they have always come across as alot of fluff, alot of hype, alot of technical boasting (ie dual led, laser, double resolution, fast RF), but they're never really better or THAT much better than my trusty intellimouse.

Totally agree with Shalacka. WoW has decent graphics and a well done interface, especially being user moddable. But it lacks alot of depth and longevity. Maybe that will change with an expansion...

Inevitably this thread will lead to Star Wars Ep3... So I'll start it. I liked it. I'm not diehard, but I am a SW fan. Obviously everyone will have their own ideas of what the movie should have been whats weird/wrong/inaccurate here and there. The main thing for me is that it was entertaining. Light sabres, space battles, explosions, light sabres, big armies, evil villians, the force, and light sabres.

My only gripe is that it felt rushed. There seems to have been enough material to make 2 movies. The events leading up to Annikan's ultimate turn to the dark side could have been fleshed out further to be more "gradual".

Anyone it was a fun movie, likely will see it again. Hope they eventually make more movies... Say 10 years from now?

Online distribution is here to stay, no doubt about it. Its inception has less to do with the availability of memory as it does with the widespread of broadband. Regardless, that doesnt mean all future endeavors will have an "obnoxious background client" (such a fitting desc of Steam). Heck its probably alot more resources spent to maintain Steam than a simple scheme of download dvd image, install and activate, which most companies will most likely adopt.

Don't need to get all up in arms at the very mention of Steam. Take comfort in knowing that soon you wont have to wait in long lines or fight throngs of holiday season shoppers to get that next "must have" game. Its "content on demand" and there are definite benefits to be enjoyed here.
