Can too much praise turn kids into narcissistic jerks? Yes, says new study.

Sounds like a family member of mine, and yes, it's true.

I almost envy people who were brought up that way. I grew in a family where I was constantly criticized, called names, and basically made to feel horrible for no apparent reason. My mom was overly religious. Any time I did something wrong I was told I was being possessed by the devil or evil spirits. I have this constant cloud of self-doubt and worthlessness that I have to battle with internally. It seems to get worse just before going to sleep -- a voice of criticism that gets louder and harsher before the dreams take over. It's kind of creepy.

Apparently I need to go see this as soon as possible. A horror movie scoring that well *without* sending up the genre must be something special.

Hey, I had Lasik last year. The procedure itself was awkward in the extreme, but it's insanely quick and besides dryness the only pain didn't last more than a day.

Interesting movie. Bookmarked to look for it when it comes to DVD. I like when horror movies are more about the psychology within the protagonist and the interaction of supporting characters than gore or effects.

Thanks for that. It's good to know from others that it's painless and quick. It was a moment of self-pity. I thought cataracts was something a person gets in the 60s.

$549 for a Watch you need to recharge every day. The alarming thing is how many people on my Facebook feed wanted it yesterday.

That was a good pun there, if you haven't noticed it.

I started noticing my computer screen seeming a tad bit blurry. I found out I'm forming cataracts. What the ... I'm still fairly young. The optometrist says it's because I spent too much time in the sun without decent sunglasses. When I was a kid I went to the beach everyday without thinking about needing sunglasses or UV protection. He said there is a wave of my 'beach-going' generation needing the surgery. I've been reading articles that say it's the simplest surgery to get done, but it still creeps me out. Now I won't wear any sunglasses less than $100 in value. Getting older sucks!

You'll have plenty of time to do nothing when you're dead. In fact, nothingness will last quite a bit longer than your life that you've lived, up to now - including the short time that remains. So don't worry, you'll be doing a lot of nothing for an eternity -- sooner or later.

No you won't because nothing ever really dies. That energy, those atoms, etc. are all used in other things. I don't know what but I think there is something "more". Reincarnation, after a fashion, is most likely. It would explain a lot.

Jean Luc Picard on Death

It's the equivalent of saying, "Gravity is evident, for an object falls to the ground." Another person interjects, "No, that's not true, the object is falling toward the ground. The ground is lying on top of a liquid core with shifting land, and that land is on a planet orbiting a sun which itself is rotating millions of miles in a solar system that is spinning within a galaxy .. that galaxy is spinning in a vast cosmos -- so the object is really spinning in hundreds if not thousands of different directions and not actually falling."

On macro-cosmic perspective perhaps there is no 'death', but on a micro-singular-level, relative to the context of one's extremely limited perspective, death is the end of one's known existence -- or in this case consciousness as we know it -- or to refine it further: you will lose your identity; you will no longer be you.

Can the watch do 'everything' or is it merely an advanced and easier accessible portal to your own phone? Does it require the phone?

We need to implement stardate in preparation for Martian colonies and first contact (or alien invasion -- if you're the glass half empty type of person).

Something about your upcoming vacation from here perhaps?

It's hard to take a real vacation unless I want to take a break from beautiful ocean views and nearly perfect weather.

Hmm what kind of off-topic wrench to throw in there. This may take some deep contemplation.

Remember the trick of leaving the game running overnight to get a lot of credit / research? It ran in real time -- if I recall correctly.

Ford is also a conundrum. He hated working with Scott & thought the movie would bomb (which in a way it initially did), why did he sign up for a sequel? Revenge?

Property taxes? Money?
