It was going to get stale sooner or later, since gameplay couldn't really change in a dramatic way with how it's structured.. but yeah, the crashing (on seemingly every single major patch), the performance in some places, and the sheer numbers of enemies/difficulty even on lower difficulties are just.. off-putting. The game has a lot of tiny little things that get really, really irritating the more they happen, like crashing at extraction and losing all your samples, or getting pinned under a ragdolled body and killed, or repeatedly staggered out of animations by the smallest enemies, etc.
It's definitely unique and fun, but even with Sony behind them, it feels like they're getting no support from them, no extra QA, no extra polish or outside help. Sony had a golden goose and really just.. let it shit the bed instead of feeding it.
