Hopefully Red Dead and LA Noire are both ported to PC eventually... those are games I might buy a console for at some point if they never are.

I would also love LA Noire on PC.

This game looks like it's dripping with atmosphere.

I take it I should give Penumbra a try before I delve into this one? Or does it really matter...

They're good games on their own, probably best to experience before Amnesia simply because Amnesia will have some improvements on gameplay that would otherwise seem a little frustrating if you were to experience Penumbra after Amnesia.

If you do get the Penumbra games, and I highly recommend them, don't try to fight anything aside from maybe a spider or two. Combat was made akward and difficult on purpose. The point is to run, hide, and use stealth. Also, the third Penumbra game is not a continuity of the first two - it's just a giant where's waldo type game with some minor Portal-esque gameplay elements.

Besides Civ 5, this is the game I have been most forward looking to in the second half of this year.

Nvidia is trying pretty hard to sell off their GF100 (gtx465, 470, 480) based stock with this promotion as well as several other promotions and mail in rebates. I suspect the 384 shaders gf104 release is imminent, and the respin/refresh to GF100 is not far off.

This game is linear like Doom 3 with atmosphere like late-game stalker. Graphically it's outstanding (and demanding). The game already had a 50% off steam sale ($25) and it was also on sale from THQ's website at one point for $15.

I am more apt to buy single player games when the developers focuses solely on the single player experience. It's a good move for this type of game to focus on the single player experience.

I'd still love to see a prequel to Bioshock, taking place right as the city starts to erode.

I wish somebody would do another (good) Might and Magic game with the same humor, overpowered levels, and ability to mow down hundreds of enemies later in the game.

I wish this too. I thought 4 and 5 were epic, and while 6 and 7 were graphically dated from the start, were massively epic.

For Nvidia users wanting to go with medium/high physx settings.

I have confirmed that without a simple fix the game will offload gpu-accelerated physx effects onto the CPU.

You must uninstall your current physx version, then under C: \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii - public demo\3rd, install the version of physx there.

On my gtx260 216, with physx on medium, my average frame rate went up from 23 to 30 by doing this.

Why would having to authenticate first be detrimental?

Alien Swarm might be the best free game ever.

I caved in and preorderd Mafia II. I know a demo is coming out before the game, but unless the moon explodes tomorrow, the overwhelming chances point to it being a great game. Even after it's released I'll wait on nvidia to release fully unlocked gf104 based GPU's to upgrade my system with so I can use my current GPU for dedicated physx before selling.

Preorder also comes with Mafia I (I had never played it but always wanted to). So that'll occupy my time.

I have been begging valve on their forums for the game to have preload option for this game available, but Valve seem to have no idea how to plan ahead on their steam system.

First of all, they release this free game (2gb) at peak steam concurrent usage time(within 1 hour). Steam website has a graph showing daily concurrent usage stats, and if u look at past number of days you can see that the time this game was released is about the peak usage time every day.

Second, Valve did not offer preload option for this game which shows total disregard for their system load and for their users. Had they started to offer preload few days earlier at time when user load is lowest this would relieve a lot of bandwith load over time. Why? because less users would start to download instantly at preload due to the time it was put up and people normally don't rush to download something that you cannot play upon finishing.

Many people cannot start the download or their download is crawling because Valve failed to use common sense.

Wow look at how much you complained about a free game. You'll get your chance at it there Mr. entitlement, just be patient.

For anyone thinking about preordering this game, Direct2drive has it for preorder now. Keep in mind, the game uses steamworks so it doesn't matter if you buy it from gogamer, amazon, steam, or wherever - it will still use/require steam no matter what. That said, the D2D preorder currently has the best deal going. Both the regular and digital deluxe versions are offered, but D2D is also throwing in the first premium DLC pack for Civ 5, along with a copy of Civ III.

Like I said, it doesn't matter where you buy it as it will still use steam, so go for the best deal unless you want a physical copy and/or hate D2D with a huge passion.

I really wonder how these sales effect the number of people buying games at $50 on release. I know Valve has said they don't, but it's surprising, and that was before they went really crazy like this.

If there is a game that is coming out that I really, really want (like Civilization V or Portal 2) I will pay full price for it to be able to enjoy it day 1.

Other games that I'd like to have but aren't a priority in my gaming needs, like Metro 2033 and Bioshock 2, I wait until they are at least 50% off MSRP.
