I've played a lot of other MMOs but WOW is probably the only MMO that's actually worth 15 dollars a month.
I gave up WOW a couple years ago, but I'm always tempted to check it out again. I'm hooked on Starcraft 2 right now though.

Not even in... 3D ?

Don't knock it man. I've been playing Starcraft 2 in 3D and it's a blast. And Just Cause 2 is a riot in 3D. If a game has the "Nvidia 3D Ready" tag on the box, I'm more likely to buy it. I'm just a sucker for that type of thing.

That's what I was wondering. 100 million over how many years and people. This is one game where I'd actually like to see a behind the scenes, "making of," story. It really is one of the most anticipated games of all time. Hope they don't screw it up.

And if they do screw it up, I'll blame Activision, not Blizzard. hehe

Blizzard would never do something this stupid. This is Activision.
I knew nothing good would ever come of that merger.

The only effect this will have is to kill the official forums and drive everyone to 3rd party forums. I used to lurk the official WOW forums at work, back when I played WOW, and I would rarely post anything under my main character's name, much less my full real life name.

They're trying to turn the Blizzard forums into Facebook and it won't work. They're two different things.

They should just call it CryENGINE PS3. That's what it's designed for, consoles.

Bioware should have made this game. Mass Effect 2 feels more like Star Trek than STO. Star Trek is about traveling around and talking to people and solving problems, not just shooting at never ending series of baddies in space. That's what Star Wars is for.

I think I remember some magazine articles featuring screenshots for Alan Wake. It was an article hyping up Microsoft's DirectX 10 and how it would revolutionize PC gaming.

So yeah, that worked out pretty well.

Technically, it IS an MMOG.

It's just not much of an MMORPG

Well, if you can't be in an area with 500+ other players, and everywhere you go is an instance, it's not very massive. And you certainly shouldn't charge 15 bucks a month for it.

Guild Wars was similar, where you could see some other players in the towns but the rest of the game was instanced. It was more like Diablo, and no one called that an MMORPG. Nor did they charge a monthly fee.

If WoW was nothing but a few cities and instanced dungeons that you accessed by clicking on a map, it would have failed. (of course, for a lot of end game PvP players, that's pretty much all they do anyway.)

As much as I love Star Trek, I hope this game fails. I hope Cryptic and Atari learn the hard way that you can't just take a generic MMO game and slap a coat of licensed Star Trek on it.

An MMO is about inhabiting a fictional universe. You have to feel like you are there. Clicking on a map and loading an instance with random players and blasting whatever's there, repeating endlessly, is not an MMO. More importantly, it's not Star Trek.

I can't wait for all the scathing reviews and angry forum comments trashing this game. Too bad it had to be Star Trek.

Maybe one day someone will make a good Star trek game, but today is not that day.

Man that Star Trek Online "preview" was harsh. Thank God I resisted the temptation to pre-order that turd. Twice I came close to buying it, because I'm a huge Trek fan, but the videos I've seen just looked boring. Reading this just confirmed all my doubts.

I hope Cryptic fails miserably with STO and I hope they get crucified in game reviews and forums. Maybe other studios working on MMOs will learn from their mistakes. Just a shame it had to be a Star Trek game. What a waste of a great universe.

And I bet half of the xbox 360s that do pay for Live don't really want it but have no idea how to cancel the account. MS doesn't make it easy to cancel your Live subscription.

I was excited about ST:O, came close to preordering the deluxe edition, but I've heard nothing but negative comments from people who claim to have played it. Once the NDA is lifted, it won't be pretty.

The videos they've shown looked nice graphics wise, but they never show the UI and they havent shown much of the ground combat, questing, or social aspects. Just funky looking Trek ships shooting at each other. I mean some of the ships look like a "ricer" kid went to town on it. I wonder if they have NOS injectors.

I think I'll wait for a free trial on this one, as much as I love Trek.

just like dropping two quarters in the slot in the old arcades

I remember the only machines worth dropping TWO quarters into were the sit down ones, with the feedback motion seats. Or maybe if it had a plastic light-gun peripheral.

They did exactly that with DCS: Blackshark. You could play it like a dumbed down console shooter with your gamepad in "arcade mode" or you could spend a week trying to learn how to start the helicopter in full realism mode. Or do something in between.

This A-10 sim should be the same. My favorite plane, so I will have to get it.

If I wasn't flat broke in the middle of christmas I'd probably pre-order it too. The movie version of the Enterprise is my favorite ship in all of sci-fi and the only way I can play it in the game is to pre-order it from Gamestop.

Man that's messed up.

It's a neat little game, but I don't think it's worth 20 bucks. Especially when you can get Torchlight for 10 bucks right now.

Maybe if it used an actual 3D engine and you could rotate your view around the ships during battle, like in Homeworld or any other modern space RTS. It would look amazing in stereo 3D.

The text lines of the ship captains talking during combat is kinda funny though. That's maybe worth 10 bucks right there.

There's an achievement for using mods! I've never seen that before!

This game just got a lot better. The achievements add more fun to it and with Steam Cloud, I'll never lose my characters.

This is my favorite game of the year so far. It's a simple Diablo clone, but it certainly has me addicted more than Dragon Age or Borderlands.

10 bucks... so worth it.

I dunno. I love firefox but anything 3.0 and above just runs horribly on my Vista system. Pages won't load or load halfway, the cpu spikes to 100%, and it's just dead slow.
I'm forced to use Firefox 2. I've looked up the problem and there are hundreds of similar complaints in the Mozilla forums, but no solution.

Smart move. I've been waiting for a demo of this. Release a demo so people can try it out, rather than downloading a pirate copy.

Looks like a fantasy version of Total War, which sounds cool.
