I have to admit it's been stunning watching them crater so hard. I have a feeling their past issues with publishers weren't just evil publishers being pricks.

I can still remember when Bethesda introduced the concept of paid addons ("DLC") in the form of horse armor.

At the time people predicted soon we'd be paying for simple things like cheat codes. We passed that time about a year ago, and have surpassed any greedy prediction people made back when Horse Armor made its debut.

Gamers only have themselves to blame. Too many people actually buy this shit, thinking there is no other way to do things. They weren't around for free mods being the norm, and "DLC" coming in the form of free map packs to reward your customers. Epic gave away more "bonus pack" content for the Unreal Tournament games than some AAA tier games give you for paid DLC.

Now it's "how much can we milk the suckers for"?

There are still a few non-predatory game developers out there, but they're the exception to the rule these days.

It was a decent concept ruined by technical execution. On the PC side the matchmaking was crap, and pretty much killed the game. There are maybe 500 people at the most that play it. No server browser, no dedicated servers, and no options, was the death of it on PC. Who wants to play a multiplayer game where you can't even do something as simple as select which map you want to play?

For some idiotic reason I got suckered in to the hype and got the season pass. The game is so dead, and without the ability to select maps to play on, there are a few maps from the various expansions that I just never had the patience or will to keep playing to see.

Overall a very shitty port to PC, and I will never buy another game from them again.

Now we know why Jade left the company.

Was there even one Black Flag song on their last game? These guy's are frauds!

They saw Battlefield 4 be rushed to market last year, and decided they wanted a piece of that action.

Going to PAX seems like a good use of resources for a crowd funded game.

Haven't tried DF-9 out in a couple of months. Figured I'd give it a go since this is "1.0".

Built 3 rooms. Had life support systems up. Created my airlock, had the system that refills the suits installed, and had two working airlock doors. They finish building everything, all go outside, sit there, and asphyxiate without going back in for air. I quit the game and uninstalled it.

Fool me once...

DoubleFine got the ball rolling on crowd funding, and now they're on their way to helping kill it.

What's interesting/amusing to me is how the comments for this game always come down to two fanatical sides. Much like every issue these days, there seems to be no moderation whatsoever. You're either all in, or you think it's a giant scam.

I'm dubious of their claims and promises, but think it would be great if they proved everyone wrong. I'd play the game they're envisioning, I'm just skeptical that they can actually pull it off. That being said I hope they can do it, I certainly am not routing for them to fail.

Don't start an entertainment company that is dependent on a government gravy train, and this wouldn't happen. Plenty of blame to go around, but most of it falls with Shilling and his team. They pissed away millions.

I really despise low-grav first person shooters, so I'm definitely going to wait on this one until I can determine how much of that garbage occupies the game.

And as others have said, with the way they milk out the DLC on these games, it's probably smart to just wait a while and get it on sale. I had a blast with Borderlands 2, but the second I started reading about low-grav combat I tuned out.

Wasteland 2 is one of the few games in recent memory that lived up to the hype. I'm amazed at how great this game is turning out to be.

It's vindication for many of us that knew the Fallout franchise could have been successful while staying true to its roots.

When Notch first put out Minecraft he said eventually the entire codebase would be opened under the GPL. He also said MS was evil and were trying to destroy gaming on the PC, right before calling Occulus Rift a bunch of sellouts for going with Facebook.

And now he's selling Mojang to MS? People really don't have any principles that can't be bought these days. The man already has hundreds of millions of dollars he got without the help of MS.

Oh well. I don't play Minecraft much these days, and having less games to buy in the future is a good thing.

I hate to be this guy, but what made Alien a success had more to do with Dan O'Bannon writing a terrific script, and H.R. Geiger bringing the aliens to life.

Once Cameron was on his own it quickly just became action movie fodder, and the "haunted house" creepiness was gone.

So the big argument here is that they shouldn't have delayed the game 3 times, and instead should have shoveled out some half-finished slop and called it a day?
