I liked Fallout 3's exploration until it dawned on me that most of the locations were just empty husks of stage dressing, with no real game elements in them. Most of the areas in Fallout 3 proved to be utterly pointless in terms of advancing the game.

Exploration is fine, but it wasn't the centerpiece of the Fallout games. Hell in the first two games, you could lose the entire game by exploring too much and running out of time.

Linus was an asshole before anyone knew who Steve Ballmer was. His attitude is why the Linux kernel is as stable and secure as it is. He doesn't let crap in to the kernel, and he does not suffer fools. If you can't handle that, then Linux kernel development isn't for you.

I also expect it wont be long before we get a bunch of hippie ass liberals complaining about how this is racist, like they did with the game that became snuggle truck. Before you had to drive illegal mexicans in the truck but a bunch of whiney babies complained and now you carry stuffed animals.

When you find yourself whining about people before they even do something, you might want to consider that you could be just as annoying. Two sides of the same annoying coin.

Curiosity was a scam to anyone who paid for it. There was no reward. In most businesses you'd be facing legal penalties if you put out a paid contest that actually had no rewards.

So then he ties the 'reward' from Curiosity to an unreleased crowd-funded game, and then proceeds to take the money and use it to develop a cell phone game that you pay to win, while never actually finishing the version of the game that was both crowd-funded, and tied to the Curiosity scam's reward.

Fuck Molyneux and any asshole that defends that sort of behavior. After DF-9, Shchafer should probably just shut his mouth too, and concentrate on delivering something to people for their money.

Honestly if they had just gone the traditional "Pay full price for a game, and get the full game." I would have instantly bought this. However, no game is worth 80-100 to get things that should have just been included in the full version.

It's a cash grab, and they can grab it from someone else. I shouldn't have to do research to figure out which edition screws you over less.

Lots of potential "game changer" and huge plans but everything seem to get abandoned after a few months when the hype settles.
I am waiting for Valve to announce the next big thing in mobile gaming a Valve tablet or something. Than a few months later they will just forget about it and announce the ground breaking new tech in sound technology for pc gamers.

What was that technology they were working on in the late '90's to make playing on dial-up almost as fast and seamless as on broadband? They worked on that forever and it was supposed to be shipped along with Team Fortress 2 before they scrapped everything. That was when TF2 was still a realistic military style competitive shooter.

They didn't "scrap everything". You've got the timeline off a bit, as they did ship that netcode update to TFC, and if you were on dial-up back in those days (as most were), it was a massive improvement for high ping players. I remember it vividly because it was the first time I could play a game on the actual internet and not have it be a delayed lag-fest.

It's funny watching the reaction to Valve's initiatives from some people. You can tell people aren't used to observing a company that isn't based on pleasing stockholders each quarter. Valve is working on things that will pay off in the future enormously for them.

I also remember people saying they were wasting time "working on this Steam crap", and look where that got them.

If you are a gamer you should be on their side. OpenGL getting major support is preferable to Direct X or Mantle simply because it is truly open.

Newsflash: Everyone involved are fucking idiots, that don't really even play games.

Earlier this week Linus also declared they were keeping support for Acoustic Couplers because they have 1 active user in Russia that requested they not remove support in a new kernel update.

Now *that* is support!

Here is my honest opinion of Star Citizen at the moment:

I remain skeptical, but I wish them all the luck in the world, because the concept sounds amazing. It just seems like a very tall order to fill.

That being said, I'm completely done with "early access", and will not be giving them a dime until they have a game to play. That goes for pretty much all games at this point.

I'm still on the fence on this project. This is like every gamer's nerdgasm come true in concept, but would be challenging to pull of for even veteran development teams.

What exactly is there available to play at the moment? I haven't been following development closely, and it's hard to tell what is actually there right now.
