Raised by Wolves started out mediocre... and turned into one of the worst shows I've ever seen in my life. Without exaggeration. Those of you who didn't finish it, count yourselves lucky.

I used to think Ridley Scott was one of the greatest directors of all time, but he has produced some real shit lately. I suppose I should take a closer look at who was on his team for his great films, but I lack the energy currently.

oh please oh please oh please

I enjoyed the Riddick movies along with Pitch Black, but Vin Diesel is what, 60 now? I'm not sure he's able to get into Riddick shape anymore.

*EDIT* Whoops, spoke too soon, apparently he's currently making a film called "Muscle," so he's most likely on a steroid/HGH cycle as we speak. I expect a shredded, grizzled Riddick.

Not going to play the play the open beta because let’s face it it’ll launch as a paid beta. That said I can’t wait to get this game and don’t want to be turned off. I need a new FPS damnit.

I don't get it. So here's the chance for a free open beta (demo) and yet you guys would rather spend $60 while expecting it will be garbage anyway? What? Especially @phinn and the highlighted part... in what universe does that make any sense? Yeeeaaahhh let's stay away from that scary free open beta that might turn one off from the game because blindly buying the game is a much better idea? Wow.

Well, whatever floats your boat. It's your money. I, for one, will surely play the open beta as a free demo, and depending on the outcome, I might sub to EA Play Pro for a month after release. I'm old and can't keep up with the kiddies anyway. Nor do I have the time or the will to sink weeks or months of my life into a rather boring repetitive multiplayer treadmill like BF.
A $14.99 month of EA Play Pro should be more than enough to play as much BF 2042 as I can tolerate. There are too many other (better) games to play anyway.

Oh, I don't think it'll be garbage; I've got a minimum of 100 hours out of every Battlefield game I've ever bought, I'm sure BF 2042 will be at least that much. The DICE videos and unscripted alpha videos look great. I tend to shy away from open or closed betas/alphas though, purely because I don't like putting time into unfinished games, when as you say, there is so much else to play. Plus it's only like 2-3 days? I'll be at work or driving to and from work, the majority of that time. EA Play Pro makes sense financially for most people, I agree, but I can't bring myself to do video game subscriptions yet. I'll buy the digital copy, unless beta/release reviews indicate it's utterly unplayable.

Hackers and release day bugs can't scare me off.

There was a GI Joe arcade game in the... mid 90s? That was basically the best game in the arcade at the time. Your character was visible from directly behind, and you controlled motion side to side, as well as running 'forward' into the screen and progressing the game, and basically shot the shit out of all sorts of Cobra and alien units. One of the few beat 'em up(like Captain Commando or TMNT) or multi-level progression games that I actually beat in the arcade.

This WotC GI Joe game will probably be horrible, but I'll at least check it out, for nostalgia.

*EDIT* If they remake a version of that arcade game though... I call Snake-Eyes! You guys can be the other nubs.

Enjoy your haxfest.

There will definitely be hackers. AAA FPS game, lots of publicity, it's 2021. Plus the standard Youtuber/streamers and their followers Not cheaters per se, but of course some are good(or even great) players and then all of a sudden there's 10 engineers standing around all day repairing their tank or helo, which is about as bad. That's the FPS landscape these days. It'll also have thousands of servers, and dedicated anti-cheat and reporting, so I'm still interested in giving it a go.

Because when Battlefield is good, it's really good. Conversely it can be aggravating as fuck, but still.

One of my favorite shows of my teens, possibly my favorite show of that time period...but good luck finding actors to replace Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas. Everybody else on the show was mediocre, then those two guys basically stole every episode they were in.

At least they do have Straczynski involved, but how the hell old is he now, like 70? Oh well, hopefully it turns out okay. At least the CGI team will be more than 1 guy with an apple desktop this time around.

I guess I'll be able to watch it about 3--5 years after each season is released, when it comes to Netflix.

*EDIT* Typo.

Ah yes racist chat spam. It has definitely been getting worse the past 10-15 years or so, with a dramatic uptick post 2008. I wonder what could have happened that year?

It's already known publicly that shitbags such as Steve Bannon have been trying (and often succeeding) to harvest these trolls from Gamergate, it doesn't surprise me that they are being recruited by various racist groups.

Kinda sad it's spread to 'kids' games like Minecraft though, but why not target the young, I guess?

Any semblance of people trying to actually be good at games legitimately seems to be long gone, especially in the FPS genre.

Good luck with the anti-cheat efforts though! I'm foolishly hoping that BF2042 cheating isn't too bad, but it will probably be ridiculously high.

Wow, what total pieces of shit, lol. Respawn would be entirely justified in just taking Titanfall 1 and 2 offline completely, forever.

These are supposed to be 'fans' ?

I have not followed the entire saga of this debacle, but clearly some people are way too emotionally involved in a game that wasn't popular or successful at all when it first came out, SEVEN years ago.

I will be amazed if the non-Apex Legends side of Titanfall isn't abandoned completely.

Haemimont's only game like this was Omerta, which was... okay. Hopefully this turns out far better.

Random recommendation: If you like crime dramas try "Mare of Easttown". Binged it yesterday and I think it lived up to the good reviews it has gotten. Not too long at seven 1-hr episodes. They are apparently considering a second season if they can find a good story.

You liked Mare of Easttown? I couldn't make it through the first episode... too slow, people were too annoying. It seemed well done but maybe not my cup of tea.

I'd be amazed that a game of this scope wasn't going to be delayed, with the pandemic on. People are still dropping like flies, and filling up hospitals. By November I might even be finished with Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Yea you can put crusade mode on auto. But NOTE: Once it's turned on, you can't turn it back off. Also at least one of the Mythic Paths (I believe Gold Dragon, don't quote me on that) cannot be accessed if you turn on auto mode because it requires you actively play through it to unlock it.

It may be more than 1 path, I keep reading that the Lich path is blocked if you auto-battle the crusade mode also.

That said, the mode isn't too hard, it's basically Heroes of Might and Magic lite. Although the numbers feel a little off: time to spawn more troops(1 week) seems too long, prices for troops seem far too high given how big enemy armies get, and damage on some units such as the Shield Bearer seem FAR too low. But that can all be patched, obviously. Just don't buy a lot of shield bearers for now.

I can definitely see it being pretty tedious though, if you have a general that doesn't have Pierce armor as a spell, you could be there all day vs gargoyles and some of the other mid range enemy units. It's pretty classic HoMM or King's Bounty; get big stacks of units, buff them up, hit first and win. Heal up before the last enemy dies, unless you have a ton of hospitals built. Also, having just one mega army is probably the better choice for most people until you get enough money and units to support a second general and army; there are only so many low level enemy armies around to level off of.

I wonder if that 250k is counting backers, etc. ? Either way, congratulations to them, the game is an amazing achievement: fun, extremely interesting systems and lore, looks and sounds amazing, has a serious amount of well done content, as well as doubling down on the complexity of Kingmaker in some ways(may be a negative for some) but if you are into Baldur's Gate style games, look here.

*Disclaimer: I am thoroughly addicted, it's been out for a week, and I have... 75 hours played? According to GoG. That's not all 'good' time obviously, some decent amount of time playing with the character generator, and burning some time testing various paths in the quests and on every level up. Also redoing some army battles/realm decisions, etc.

So much stuff is going on under the hood in the game, I'm surprised it's only as buggy as it is. Once you're into the 'main' game, the number of bugs (or questionable design/balance decisions) jumped up a bit, but it's still playable. I think it's entirely possible to utterly lose your towns and base early on, if you screw up the army portion and get stuck waiting for extremely slow and expensive reinforcements or mercenaries, even if your 6 man team is utterly into beast mode, winning every small battle.

The writing overall seems to be a big improvement over Kingmaker, albeit with some questionable alignment based dialogues. Not to say it's great, as the basic premise is a bit ludicrous, the main PC has to run the country, run the armies, and also adventure with up to 5 NPCs in dungeons and so forth. There are only so many hours in the day, Owlcat games. Still, it'd be an understatement to say I'm really enjoying the work. Also, there are so many ways to build killer class combos and setups... I can see myself doing a couple more playthroughs, for story and build reasons, let alone once DLC comes out.

The game probably needs a few numbers/balance patches... stuff is simply too expensive too early, losing armies to a bad fight is catastrophic, and the damage on 'core' style settings is literally insane too early. Later on you can mitigate, but it makes the front end difficulty too high in my opinion. Sure you can turn battle difficulty down, but it'll probably cause a lot of people to just uninstall and miss out on the amazing meat of the game.

Tool tips and tutorial tips are great, right up until the empire management pops up. It's not too complex to learn on the fly, but everything takes days or weeks, and it seems like you can easily lose the game very early into the management portion with a few bad choices too.

TLDR, if you liked the first Pathfinder:Kingmaker game, and or BG2, try this, it's already a flawed masterpiece, with only a few quick patches so far and no DLC.

Burrito of Peace wrote on Sep 10, 2021, 11:14:
I want to state up front that I am in no way against electric vehicles.

There are several problems that must be addressed before they can see mass adoption:

  • Charging infrastructure built in to homes and apartments by default in all areas, not just urban environments.
  • Inexpensive retrofits to currently existing structures to provide charging capability.
  • Far, far more reliable power grids. Texas, for example, couldn't handle people turning on their heaters in February and we often see brownouts or blackouts in summer when people use their AC systems. Add to that climate change which is going to increase electricity usage.
  • Clean power generation. There's no point in going electric if you're ramping up "clean" coal plants to provide the electricity necessary to charge these vehicles. You're merely exchanging one source of pollution for another.
  • Better battery technology in terms of range, shelf life, materials, scale, and replacements. Current battery technology is incredibly toxic and wasteful. Moreover, they're expensive and difficult to replace.
  • Range and charge speed. The most current data I can find for 2021 shows that the Tesla Model S has a maximum range of 421 miles, which is the longest available range in a consumer vehicle. However, that vehicles is $80K. You need that kind of range in a $25K car (which would be the Honda Civic LX). For those of us that use trucks as something more than garage queen status symbols, we need range and towing capacity. When towing our trailer to go camping, it takes me about ten minutes to fill up the tank. I'm not going to wait 2 hours for a "fast" charge before continuing on our journey and I very much doubt most people would, either.

Electric cars are cool, no doubt, but it's rather myopic to think they can replace every vehicle in every application. They're too inconvenient and expensive (when TCO is tallied) for the average person at this time. That needs to change for mass adoption.

I don't think anyone is going to claim that electric vehicles can replace every vehicle in every application, except for some diehard fanboys somewhere on social media. Your list is correct, as far as issues that humanity is going to have to overcome, sooner or later. Electric car adoption may hasten some of that, we'll see. Too inconvenient and too expensive... well maybe, I guess, depends on the definition of average person, but I think we'll see a pretty rapid shift to electric in our lifetimes, maybe even within the next 5-10 years. We'll probably see the start of that in the US when Ford releases their Lightning truck... next year?
