I think I liked the initial release more than whatever the current version is, with their many, many balance changes.

Last time I played, maybe a month ago, it felt like a complete slog. I will check it out again once this last DLC comes out though; I'm reasonably sure my Kickstarter/Fig/whatever tier included all the DLCs.

Yikes, indefinite delay for Diablo 4?

I wasn't expecting it to be out until like 2023 anyway, but that's slightly depressing.

This looks alright. All trailers need to ease up on the bass though. It is a lazy way to add impact to a scene.

I am still yet to see the Mandalorian and I was a huge Star Wars fan.
I've been hoping Disney would release it on DVD/Blu-Ray. Call me a dinosaur but I still want to own stuff free and clear and forever.

? Just spend the 8 bucks or whatever it is for a month of Disney+ and watch the two seasons of the Mandalorian; it's the best Star Wars stuff I've seen in quite some time, definitely better than the last 3 movies of the main series, as well as the Han Solo movie.

I understand wanting the Blu Rays, but you might be waiting years for that. Disney will probably end the show before they release any sort of physical version of the Mandalorian.

Answer: At no possible benefit to the consumer. Plenty of ways to nickel and dime players for 'unique' items and track user data though, to be sold elsewhere.

Bleh, cloth and hair? How are you going to see that underneath the player's space helmet, and body armor?

I'm of course interested in whatever game eventually gets made, but id has kinda been all over the place, game design wise, if not quality wise, the past couple of games. I feel like Doom Eternal just isn't fun, even compared to Doom 2016, for example.

These "AIs" (really expert systems at best) keep getting trained with biased datasets. In this case:

"The folks behind the project drew on some eyebrow-raising sources to help train the AI, including the “Am I the Asshole?” subreddit, the “Confessions” subreddit, and the “Dear Abby” advice column, according to the paper the team behind Delphi published about the experiment. "

Well no shit, rofl. Why the fuck would you think you'd get an unbiased system from Reddit data? That makes this seem like an expensive joke, more than a real project.

I played the first one until the final dungeon then said, "Nope, don't want to lose all this work" and quit. Never bought any of the expansions. While I enjoyed it (mostly) it really crosses over that line of "too punishing and frustrating" for me. If you have unlimited time to grind and unlimited patience, I could see being heavily invested, but I just don't really have it. More of a dislike of roguelikes and roguelights in general, though.

The game, vanilla or with DLC, is definitely a punishing experience that tends to kill off some of your favorite party members via bad dice rolls. I started using some mods to even it out a little bit, most importantly the No-Negative Trinkets or whatever it's called, mod. That at least tips the scales a little bit in your favor without completely blowing up the game design.

That said, I don't think them doubling or tripling down on the rogue like aspect for the sequel is what I'm looking for, although I'll guess I'll check in again in a year or two when it's patched and on Steam/GoG.

Well, billionaire is a stretch, but 50 million? He got paid that much just for reruns of Chappelle Show, from Comedy Central and HBO. He got paid like 25+ million per special for Netflix. Anyway, the point is, his wealth is outside the realm of 'regular' people.

Don't forget the punchline, "and you must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny."

Comedy is a wide spectrum of entertainment.. like movies or video games. Art to be loved or loathed. But anyone demanding that someone else's work be pulled because it offends them... well, they deserve to be the butt of the next joke.

Somebody is always going to demand something. Chapelle acting like anybody is actually going to act on those demands is what's ridiculous. He's probably a billionaire at this point, and has the major media companies kowtowing to his demands, literally.

Did you now that Norton has bought both Avast and Avira ?
(NortonLifeLock, previously known as Symantec)

https://www.pcmag.com/news/antivirus-merger-nortonlifelock-to-acquire-avast

Yeah, where once there were 20 companies with their own AV engines, now it's moving towards just 3-4. I think AVG, Avast and Avira all use the same AV engine now? And Norton as well I assume.

I have been bouncing back and forth between AVG, Avira and Avast the past 10-15 years or so, and they have all gotten much more annoying with ad spam. Still, the seem to consistently perform well on av-comparatives, although it looks like McAfee and Norton are actually doing better since September? I'd hate to have to drop Avira and go back to Norton or McAfee though, I have an irrational hatred of those two.

Super Paul? I'm not sure what you are referring to there. Paul as The Preacher? Super Worm Emperor I assume is a reference to Leto II in book four. Lots of deep character interactions in that book so I'm not sure why you have more problems with it than the others.

Well Paul = Super Paul, as he is basically unbeatable in combat, has Mentat and Bene Gesserit abilities, and the most expansive Voice powers of anybody in the series. Stuff eventually happens to him of course, but even so. I personally just find the more human (or at least less... min/maxed?) characters more interesting, for most of the series. I wasn't bashing the later books, I was saying I didn't personally find the second and third novels to be particularly weak, or just weaker, as I was interpreting you to be saying.

I admit, they've got me curious, as to what the heck they will even do to the game at this point. The original playerbase is almost entirely gone, aside from a few die-hards and people like myself who check in every couple of months then leave again. There are random injections of sale players, but there is a limit to the content, and the raids are completely unfriendly to new players at this point.

I hope they don't add more raids... it'd be a complete waste for about 95% of the playerbase, transitory as it is.

Also, for fuck's sake, add ways that aren't ridiculous, for solo players to get the raid guns. That's basically all I'm missing, and I have sworn to never join any guilds ever again.

Yep, Dune has real depth. It is about politics, religion, economics, ecology, social interactions, and everything else that actually exists in the real world. I'm not sure how many times I've read the original novel, but it has to be nearly 20. Books two and three are okay. But 4-6 really rock. Many don't seem to like the books his son wrote, and I haven't read them all. I did read the prequel trilogy and the two direct sequels and they seemed true to the original six in my mind. Really enjoyed them. Haven't read the "House" novels or the ones which tell the story around a single character.

I tried to read some of the son's books years ago, and couldn't finish. I started up again recently, with the Butlerian Jihad series, and finished the first book. It's mediocre at best. I don't know if I can make it through the rest of them. It took me weeks to finish the first one, and I just reread Dune basically last night and this morning.

I actually really like even books 2 and 3 in the original series; some of the best shit happens there, and they focus on non-Atreides and a lot of the more interesting stuff in the universe, like the Tleilaxu, etc. The whole part with Farok talking about being cured of the Jihad after he sees an ocean for the first time, and realizing that the rest of the Fremen see that and fear him, etc. All of those minor character interactions are arguably more interesting than Super Paul, and definitely better than Super Worm Emperor later, in my opinion. But yes, so much more goes on in the novels that won't ever make it into the movies.

Wow, Dave Chappelle has kind of turned into a version of Seinfeld. He's so rich now he doesn't even get regular peoples' struggles, and his jokes are really starting to reflect that lack of understanding.

Cancelled? He fucking started a social media campaign to bully SONY and HBO into paying him more money for the Chappelle show, and it fucking succeeded. He just got paid like 200 million dollars or something for five Netflix shows, that are still available to watch. He literally smoked weed with the Governor of Ohio and didn't get arrested, although weed was still illegal in Ohio at the time. It goes on and on.

Imagine saying "well my black friends don't mind when I say this, so clearly I'm not racist!" He's doing the same shit for his transgender jokes. Only his one transgender friend is dead now, after suicide from harassment, literally after one of his shows. Let alone mocking the rising violence against Asian Americans the past few years. Let alone encouraging people to not wear masks during the pandemic. I used to be a huge fan of Chappelle, I can't even stand his fucking 'woe is me' act now. He's practically wiping away his fake tears with thousand dollar bills.

"Am I cancelled!?" To cheers and applause in a large packed auditorium, that's been shared online to literally billions. "Oh, and I won't talk to transgenders except at a time and place of my choosing!" What a fucking prick, lol. Humanity is just shitting the bed, the past couple of years.

No surprise, but Dune is getting a sequel.

I just finished rereading Dune; I'm going to reread the original 6 books pretty quickly now; they have been jumped up to the front of the line for me. I saw the 2021 movie a few days ago... it's pretty awesome in a lot of ways, and yes, it's closer to the book than David Lynch's version (which I also love, even though it strays a lot) but it just reinforces my belief that Dune simply does not transition well to movies, let alone any sort of live action. They are doing basically a 5 hour movie for Dune, with Villeneuve's version, and they still left out all the 'important' stuff, such as hundreds of years of the Bene Gesserit seeding religious ideas in the Fremen, most of the politics that I actually find pretty interesting now as an adult, pretty much all the Mentat stuff, and other stuff I don't want to spoil for anybody who hasn't seen the new film yet. I also kinda feel Lynch's version of the 'voice in the character's head' for italic internal conversations from the books was better than the 2021 version of just dropping dialogue or making somebody mutter it under their breath. That said, the Sardukar looked WAY more impressive in 2021 Dune, and I have about 40 back and forth opinions on other minor details, but overall the 2021 version is impressive as hell.

It'll be a real test to see what they actually do with Dune Messiah, if they get that far, as far as basically mocking any sort of heroism of Paul and the general depravity of the Jihad and Fremen fanatics, but I digress. I feel they will chicken out and make a pro-war movie, but that's just me.

tl,dr: the novels are far superior, but the movie is still really good.

They should have done a series on HBO Max if they wanted to do Dune correctly. Oh well.

I guess it's possible; that article doesn't mention it, and if it was in the video I skimmed past it. All the more reason for me to avoid such a range though, I am not going to see shit through iron sights like that, and wouldn't feel comfortable shooting.
