Hrm, my AMD control panel isn't showing 21.6.1 available for download yet. Not a huge rush though, I don't have any FSR supported games at the moment.

The Callisto Protocol Trailer 4K (Dead Space Spiritual Successor)

Well I wonder if EA will make a better Dead Space than the original Devs who are making Callisto Protocol (which looks basically like dead space)

Oh shit, I had forgotten about this! Planned release in 2022, sweet. I'll be getting both games, probably, why not try both?

I'm cautiously interested. Dead Space 1 was pretty good, but needed mods for the controls. Dead Space 2 is one of my favorite games ever. Dead Space 3, had a few nice ideas and sequences, but overall I was underwhelmed. Probably due to how amazing the second game was, but who knows.

Take the best bits from all three games, make the plot/setting some other part of the same universe, they're probably good to go.

That said, Motive has basically done that Star Wars small scale space ship fighting game, right? I heard it looks great, at least.

I've been thinking of reinstalling this from before the recent announcement. I have some friends that like to play Arma coop, but we've kind of burned out on it, and I was thinking we should give this a try. One of my friends already has it, and I told the others about it, but I don't know if they got it. I don't want to download 40GB and find out no one is playing it though. Are there enough people still playing to have a lot of populated servers?

I was somewhat surprised to find that almost every server is packed, at least the Conquest Large (64 player) servers. I guess part of that is the sale/freebie version of BF4 recently, but some of it has to be nostalgia or just anticipation for BF2042, because the US and EU servers were chock full at like 2AM EST when I was trying to play.

It's a little crazy though, balance wise. There were clearly some people who have NOT stopped playing the past 7 years, and some people who seemed brand new to the franchise, let alone FPS games in general. The skill divide was laughably bad.

As far as cheaters... there are probably some, as has been said below. Ideally BF2042 will have some better anti-cheat, but I didn't really see anyone obviously suspect, I'd think they would mostly be on popular BR games by now.

Well, count me as one of these reinstallers. I had reinstalled BFV, got sick of it pretty quick, deleted it and reinstalled BF4. I've been playing sporadically; I had forgotten how annoying good chopper/jet pilots could be in that game, and how rare it is to convince a team or even a squad on a pub to take them out. Still, it's probably the most enjoyable game in the series for me, and it looks ridiculously good in 3440x1440 on my new desktop. I do have to read up on the ideal FoV for ultra widescreen though, I have been fiddling with it and it seems there's probably a sweet spot there somewhere where you have max side view but not shrinking middle view.

Alan Wake hasn't aged well unfortunately, it needs a lot of work. Amusing story and characters but the gameplay sucks by modern standards.

Really? That's a shame, I loved that game and was pleasantly surprised playing it the first time (went into it with zero expectations though). I have not played it since, but I have had a hankering for it as I'm nearing the end of Control.

I can't imagine Remedy would change much of the gameplay though in a remake, maybe slightly better controls? It'll still be flashlight on guys, then shoot them, etc.

This whole thing still makes me depressed when I try to grasp it. I loved the original Star Control II, but that was what, 25 years ago? I struggle to find sympathy for the original creators who have done absolutely nothing with the series until basically after Stardock expressed interest in making their own game using IP they legally bought.

I strongly doubt Ford and Reiche will be able to put together anything resembling a game in the next 5 years.

First movie's plot and acting were more than fine. *shrugs*

Don't get me wrong, I loved the first movie and really enjoyed the combat work in the sequels, but they beat him up and kill his dog (terrible) and he basically ends up killing hundreds of people in response.

The entire series is just an excuse for gun battles. True, the acting wasn't really terrible at any point, arguably some of Keanu's best emoting at some spots, the supporting cast was all good. My mental picture of the series though is just a succession of better stunt pieces, not so much on the performances of the actors in the non-combat scenes.

I feel like there are an unusual amount of free games being thrown around this year, and with more variety in the titles. Like from the industry in general. I wonder if that is true or if it's just a perception based on who I specifically shop at.

I don't think you're wrong, it definitely feels like there are more giveaways on Steam and GoG recently, not counting the GoG-Steam link thing they were doing for awhile. EGS Giveaway influence? I don't know. I'd love to see some concrete numbers, but probably nobody has kept track across all digital platforms.

Ah yes, I see that clearly, now is the time for prices to drop drastically on GPUs, as I finally went ahead and got a new system with an RX6800XT.

Never fails. Next week they will announce next generations cards twice as fast, that cannot do crypto calculations and thus remain at MSRP.

Well, I can understand this argument, but if you're looking for a good plot or good acting, this was already the wrong series by the first movie.

It's all about the martial arts and gunplay setups now, or dare I say, it always has been?

Interesting to see how science fiction's predictions of super rail guns everywhere on navies (and space ships) in the future has come up short in reality. Of course a self destructing (almost) weapon with around 100 mile range is going to lose out to Mach 17+ missiles with at least 1700 mile range... not too many sci-fi authors would have picked the level of missile technology we have now. Sorry, David Drake!

I guess it'll be focused energy weapons and hypervelocity missiles in the near future.

Other OotB: Looking forward to John Wick 4 no matter what they do, probably, as well as Banshees of Inisherin.
