Cutter -> my guys were literally level 3, and the highest enemy is level 8 or something. Sleep does nothing, plus the defenders dying = lose the quest, and they die like immediately. It seems to be scripted that way though, it may almost be a bug that you can kill as many of the enemies as I am killing now, but of course more just keep spawning in. Attrition wise I am 95% convinced now you are supposed to lose that battle and fail that particular quest. Losing that battle and continuing on seems like the only choice? Not sure yet. Plenty of dialogue post-loss indicates the battle is maybe unwinnable, or at least a valid path for the game to progress into.

So far the companions are... less than optimal. I am thinking about redoing my character completely, tried him as a Skald Battle Singer at first, but that got changed to Tower Shield Fighter, but unless I've missed some obvious loot pickups, even 30 AC on that fighter is pointless so far vs the demons. I am curious if I should just go all offense and AoE, a lot of trash enemies in every area it seems like, and so far nothing can last tanking at all. Probably why the default setting is weaker enemy crits and weaker enemy hp/damage. The game started out great, now I'm just getting pissed off, but of course I've been playing on and off all day, definitely making poorer decisions now. Time to go get some exercise or something.

I have this via GoG, it's pretty awesome, but I am not sure if I have run into a bug or just the nature of the game is failed quests. My guys are level 3, and they have to fight literally 50+ enemy NPCs of all classes plus a few Fiendish monsters, and it seems like that fight just shouldn't occur that early. I may try to tweak the options some, I'm playing on normal, normal crits, normal enemy abilities and hp, etc. but literally the screen is filled with enemy trash soldiers and a few giant monsters, and my intro party can't stop them from killing the friendly npcs and stay alive. Annoying, it's about 6 hours in to the game too.

This is the first battle that seems either bugged or just showing up way too early. Also, I have around 8 quests that have to be done 'in this chapter or they fail' so... hrm. That said, the character creation system is amazing, although it seems like the enemies demand perfect tanks and perfect ranged/magic users way back out of the way to defeat. Hybrids and hybrid-ish classes seem to be an utter joke, at least at this low level. I'm going to remake my main pc as a tower shield tank and see if it's at least possible to distract the mass enemies or something.

Damn, that is a primitive looking organism. Well not primitive, but let's say successfully evolved, hundreds of millions of years ago, without too many adaptations needed, like crocodiles. Pretty awesome when you think about it.

Then came Everspace 2. I tried the new demo linked here a little while ago and was really surprised. It's fun! A fun space sim? Beautiful, with polished mechanics and an interesting story? I must be dreaming. I immediately plonked down the $$$ and burned through all of the content available so far in the EA version. Looking forward to what comes next.

Oh yeah? That's awesome, I liked the actual gameplay of Everspace 1, just not the rogue-lite wannabe aspect of it. I have had Everspace 2 on my wishlist, I'll probably pick it up post retail release, unless there is a sale before then; but good to hear that it's coming along nicely!

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous launches tomorrow! Hopefully they activate it at midnight, preferably EST, I am already preloaded. Either way, going to play it tonight or tomorrow.

*EDIT* Hrm, good looking video for PF:WotR, probably would have gone better if they hadn't called the player character a crusader at the end though.

Wow, this scam is never going to end. Why the fuck would they ever even bother releasing Star Citizen, when they can make hundreds of millions by just working on it forever?

This game looks pretty mediocre, with a worse story and engine than Riftbreaker, but the same basic idea, build settlements in an untamed wilderness, with monsters/aliens/dinosaurs around.

But forget that, what about the extremely dark and dystopian nature of the basic premise? Humanity goes back in time, to use up resources apparently at least 65 million years before humanity naturally comes about? Pre-asteroid even? What would this mean as far as insane paradoxes go? Time travel to cause the extinction of the human race, basically, so a select few can... still die, I guess, when the Yucutan Peninsula asteroid strikes? Damn that's a downer.

This is only a 30 second video, but I'd like to get my hypothesis in now: These developers at the new Atari are all too young to have even seen Centipede, and are going off some static screenshots or a written description or something.

This will be a get off my lawn moment, but I still vividly remember the sound of more mushrooms getting spawned into the game in Centipede! Actually a lot of those 80s arcade games are burned into my memory, it's weird. Robotron? Holy shit I can still remember playing that as a kid.

the only time i'm risking a theater is to see Dune, and i'll try to go when it's least crowded. other than that my home theater setup is pretty sweet. so is not having covid.

Good news, then. "Dune" is slated to hit HBO Max on the same day it is released in theatres.

Yeah, I can't wait to see Dune, at my house, on release day. The Marvel movies seem to be hitting Disney+ about 3-4 months after theatrical release, which is a bit of overkill (included streaming, not an extra $29.99) in my opinion. I don't think I'm ever going to a movie theater again.

*EDIT*

Leaded Gasoline finally eliminated - Wow, about time. It only took a concerted effort from the UN and about 100 years. For fuck's sake, humanity.

Boeing 777s grounded - with a particular engine type. Figures. Apparently most engineers/mechanics/assembly workers are shitty at their jobs also. Is this a human condition?

Lake Mead - record lows. Yeah, it's not coming back either. They've been drawing more water out than goes in for decades. It's almost like it can't support farming in the fucking desert states. I feel terrible for all the people who are going to be basically fucked out there; this is going to be the start of mass migration/American refugees, within our own country.

Alien Quantum Computers - Yeah sure, why not. Yet another astrophysics hypothesis tied in to Dark Matter, which is itself just a kluge fix to explain what humanity doesn't know. I really, really hope I live long enough for them to find out that it's just extra black holes, free roaming planets, etc. making up the mass difference in the universe, not some borderline magic other state of matter. Not as a gotcha, but just... for the Occam's Razor satisfaction of it.

Well, that's pretty cool, I guess, I haven't played Dead Space 1 in forever, but I've been through Dead Space 2 about a dozen times. I'm trying to force myself to replay Dead Space 3, but... eh...

I really, really wish they would have done Dead Space 4 instead.

I guess it's all on Callisto Protocol now.

Pathfinder 2 pre-loads are available on Steam and Gog; I got my key notification from Owlcatgames in an email, got my key off of their website, and put it into my GoG account. Now just need to pass the time until the 2nd.

Wow, Pathfinder 2 isn't even on here? Hopefully everybody already bought that weeks or months ago, on Kickstarter, GoG or Steam.

I finally finished Pathfinder: Kingmaker last night, after putting it off for months. The game is amazing right up until the House at the End of Time, then stunlock spam enemies show up. But they are beatable, just have to prep. I'm really looking forward to the sequel, although I guess they dramatically changed the Kingdom/world map management portion, hopefully it's for the better.

KS here, and I only very shortly (probably too much already played it and think it is the BEST CRPG the past decade already) so make of that what you will I only played into act 2 - the siege. And everything until then was way better than anything Kingmaker ever had. The game feels fundamentally better, looks awesome and even sounds awesome. And that was months ago.

You already played it? Alpha or Beta I guess? I did a cheap tier Kickstarter, and if I had beta access I did not use it. Excellent to hear that you liked it though; I'm looking forward to getting my KS key and using it in GoG in a few days.

I'm just hoping they learned a lot from P:K and have a far less buggy launch!

This will probably lead to the first live fire corporate war(between corporations, not between a corporation and a union, etc.). Arm has no real legal response left, the Chinese government is going to side with the new Arm-theft company. Complaining several oceans away will do nothing. Time to spend your legal team money on assassins and mercenaries, murder Allen Wu and as many of his supporters as you can find, then blow up their research and development facilities.

They can probably even get assistance from the US military for this (covertly), because this is 100% an act of war by China against the rest of the world. Whoever controls the most computational power going forward is going to run pretty much everything. Too bad the west has fucked up for decades and let(or happily encouraged) all the manufacturing move out of their own countries.

This should at least distract people from Covid deaths and climate change for a few years. Growing up, little did I realize I would see the rapid downfall of the human race into a dystopian nightmare. I was worried about silly shit, like going to college and getting a job. Rofl!

Never understood the fascination of that game - delivering very fragile items to customers in a postapocalyptic world? It just sounds too tedious to me. But enjoy whatever you want to enjoy.

It's literally one of those games you have to play to understand the appeal. Reducing it to the bare bones objectives, yes sometimes you carry packages around. There is more to it than that, even though the transport is basically metaphorical anyway. It's a crazy, beautiful, wonderful, hard terrain walking simulator. With some gunplay and vehicles thrown in sometimes. And Monsters. And public works. And bodily functions. And extremely overkilled metaphors. I'd argue it's Kojima's best work, ever.

I'd recommend picking it up, especially if you can find it on sale. There really isn't any other game like it currently.

Everything about this story is depressing as hell.

Still, why destroy your family member's property? Even if it is some fucking pornography? Stupid parents. Depressing guy in a shit situation. I'd hazard that the massive porn collection played a part in him getting divorced, but who knows.

*EDIT* HOLY FUCK, link in that link: guess his parents were trying to keep him out of prison. I strike my earlier remarks about the parents. Now this story is 20 times more depressing and infuriating. Silly me assuming it was just vintage 80s 90s porn.

I played the demo of this on Steam... it makes me remember how bad the controls really were in the first few Resident Evil games. The character moves like a tank. A particularly slow tank.

Cool indie version of Resident Evil, but I already fought the controls in games like this about 5 times, no thanks for me.
