I've been thinking of reinstalling this from before the recent announcement. I have some friends that like to play Arma coop, but we've kind of burned out on it, and I was thinking we should give this a try. One of my friends already has it, and I told the others about it, but I don't know if they got it. I don't want to download 40GB and find out no one is playing it though. Are there enough people still playing to have a lot of populated servers?
I was somewhat surprised to find that almost every server is packed, at least the Conquest Large (64 player) servers. I guess part of that is the sale/freebie version of BF4 recently, but some of it has to be nostalgia or just anticipation for BF2042, because the US and EU servers were chock full at like 2AM EST when I was trying to play.
It's a little crazy though, balance wise. There were clearly some people who have NOT stopped playing the past 7 years, and some people who seemed brand new to the franchise, let alone FPS games in general. The skill divide was laughably bad.
As far as cheaters... there are probably some, as has been said below. Ideally BF2042 will have some better anti-cheat, but I didn't really see anyone obviously suspect, I'd think they would mostly be on popular BR games by now.
