Looking good, Torment... looking real good.

Although, the animation looks a bit slow, feels like that'll make fights take forever with those (somewhat) slow animations.

A veritable feast of RPGs in the coming months though!

Kinda bummed we might not get a sequel...

Whoa, really? I thought it made like $400 million in China alone, or something?

I swear I read something about it doing amazing overseas, although not so good in the US.

Perhaps because I went in with almost no expectations at all, I thought it was okay... reasonably good, even, considering it is a video game movie.

Also, Paula Patton makes a damned sexy orc.

It made enough money that hopefully they can get a tighter script together for the next one. They'll certainly have the money (and a couple years' worth of improvements) for the CGI.

News Comments > Battlefield 1 Fall Update
6. Re: Battlefield 1 Fall Update Nov 15, 2016, 12:35 MoreLuckThanSkill

Biggest hassle with Battlefield 1:

By default, Teamchat is hidden. Along with the Kill Feed(X shot Y with Zgun), new players have like 40% of the feedback from previous battlefield games, or any shooter.

Of course, veteran players find and enable the teamchat, but it's so painfully obvious that a lot of newer players simply have no clue their team is shouting at them over teamchat to do something.

Unbelievably bad decision by DICE for that default setting.

Aside from that, the game is relatively bug free, balance isn't terrible, and the game is still a fun Battlefield experience. Some minor tweaks to some weapons here and there and it'll be great.

It feels a bit more streamlined than PoE. Almost dumbed down.

I don't mind it, but its no Baldurs.

This is a fair criticism; I'm more in the mood to go back and replay Pillars of Eternity than I am to finish Tyranny at this point.

So far it feels like they spent way too many development resources on the combo system(in combat) between companions and the PC, and those abilities simply take too long anyway, for not enough pay off.

Interesting universe, but definitely a far lower budget project than PoEt, and hopefully far lower budget than Torment.

EDIT**Disclaimer* I've played through PoEt twice already, have two more games, Ranger and Cipher, that I put on hold at about 30% or so through, gathering dust. Pillars is great.

News Comments > Tyranny Released
23. Re: Tyranny Released Nov 11, 2016, 14:59 MoreLuckThanSkill

I played pretty much all night last night, aside from breaks to eat and go work out.

I'm towards the end of the first area... hrm can't discuss too much without plot spoilers.

Suffice to say, I find the game very enjoyable, with a pretty decent plot, and some decent plot choices to make so far. Graphics are excellent, sound is excellent, what voice acting there is, is very good.

There is a LOT of text, but I enjoy reading it so that's not really a negative for me.

4 Man party (so far?), reasonably good combat, but a similar issue to Pillars of Eternity, where most enemies will immediately target your weakest character(at least on Hard), aka spellcasters. With a 4 person party you are definitely limited in viable party composition, I think. I did most of the first chapter with a tank, two dps, one mage, and started playing with tank, dps, two mages at the end of the first zone. Two mages seems to be a mistake so far, will re-evaluate with higher level mages.

I found my first bug: If you try to swap a shield by putting the new shield directly onto the old shield(as you can do with any weapon), the OLD shield will VANISH from the game. This is repeatable, but avoidable, by just unequipping the old shield first, then putting the new one in the empty slot.

Design decisions for the most part seem to be good. I would have preferred a 6 man party, but oh well.

Slight plot spoiler: I think I may have found the 'good' path towards the end of the first chapter, or at least as good as it gets. Seems like it may cost you a companion though?

TL;DR: It's very good, slight bugs, very interesting, text heavy rpg. Feels like I'll easily get the $45 price worth out of it.

Anyone heard if it's actually possible to play good in this game? I still don't know to much about it. Once I heard you play as evil, sort of turned off to it. Wonder if there's a Let's Play youtube of someone trying to play good.

Too early to tell if it ever lets you play outright 'Good' in the game, but there have already been plenty of less murder, more Order type choices. So far I am trying to ride herd on the various psychopathic members of the army, aka prevent them from immediately killing every civilian they encounter(dialogue options) etc. But the companions seem to be definitely more on the evil side of the coin.

It may be that all you can do in the end is try to uphold the Tyrant's Law, fair but harsh justice, etc. Penalty for most crimes seems to be death or slavery.

Check back, it's downloadable now from Gog, Gog Galaxy and (probably) Steam.

So far, it's pretty good, and I am somewhat shocked to say, seemingly bug... free? Clearly we've already established the Universe has gone mad (Cubs win, Trump Presidency, etc.) but I have yet to encounter any major bugs in the game, about 2 hours in.

I'm already thinking I should have gone with a Javelin/Shield focused guy with maybe 2h as backup, my Dual Wield/Bow guy is a bit squishy.

Playing on Hard, didn't record my Conquest settings, but tried to stay in the middle on influence, not too much to the Disfavored or Horde(?) sides, neutral evil to maybe neutral, in another gaming universe. In spite of that, two towns/cities got blown up by my choices.

Interesting design so far, very interesting.

Be warned, there is a lot of text, and limited voice over, from what I've seen so far, if text turns you off.

*EDIT* Horde -> Scarlet Chorus, they just have hordes of low skill infantry.

That's what you get doing protest votes, write-in candidates for president, or voting for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein.

Florida, for example, was decided by less than the percentage of votes given to alternative party candidates. Nice work.

Of course the real blame lies with the people who got suckered in by Trump's racist tirades, but what can you do; people are ignorant.

Now the only question is, what country will be least affected by Trump's presidency? Norway? Belize? Questions, questions...

I understand why you guys did that, truly, but sarcastic/protest votes are how people like Trump sneak into office when they should have had no chance at winning.

I hope not too many people do what you did, although I already know quite a few people that probably will.

This election will determine how much drinking I do in the immediate future.

Can't really tell too much from these short clips, but I swear that indie game, Outlast, had an almost identical sequence with somebody in a wheelchair at one point.

I'm still interested, I just hope there is enough firepower later in game to make up for that anemic pistol sound.

Key takeaway from that video: it's a clip from the upcoming Planet Earth II, looking forward to that with great anticipation!

Also, please be on Netflix or Amazon Prime sooner rather than later, some of us have cut cable, BBC.

Looks pretty decent, also looks like it'll be of almost zero benefit to me personally, due to the fact that I already own almost everything worth having on Steam.

Also, Steam Store 2.0, major project finished, onto the next obvious choice. Halflife 3 confirmed.

FYI: I just registered for the closed beta on their homepage. No pre-order required.

Hrm, very interesting, Steam claims you can only get in if you pre-order.

Chaos warped Deviants!

*EDIT*

Where exactly on their page are you seeing something to sign up for the beta without preordering? I don't see it. Of course it's like 2am so maybe I am just missing it.

*EDIT 2* Ah there it is, link off the Steam home page to their page.

Valid claims, valid case. Unfortunately the tech world seems highly resistant to unionization, to its own detriment. Good luck with that.

Uh, what? Not a single character in this game appears to be a giant floating mouth with a horrible, massive central eye, along with eyestalks radiating death and magic beams from them in place of hair.

False Advertising!

12. Re: More BlizzCon Announcement Details Nov 5, 2016, 13:33 MoreLuckThanSkill

Diablo 3 is inherently flawed, because of the extreme focus on Primary stat, and overpowered damage bonuses to skills from sets. The entire game is thrown out of whack by the massive damage/hp inflation.

Until those issues get fixed, everything else is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

*Disclaimer* easily 1000+ hours in D3, all classes combined.

Diablo 3's engine is great, the graphics are fine(to me, at least), but it'll take a developer with some balls to squish down the insane numbers and make more builds viable again.

I don't see that happening with Blizzard's D or E team in charge of Diablo 3, all their top talent is on Overwatch, WoW, Hearthstone, etc.
