Yeah, they're brutal. My Grenadiers have Shred solely and alone to deal with these bastards. 2 armor is super OP against assault rifles... And that Lockdown ability is just...

I tried to hack one, but the odds are awful. 50% chance to stun, or 20% chance to takeover (temporarily). Hackers have this nebulous "tech level" and it hasn't been explained to me how to increase it.

You increase it via Gremlin upgrades and Skulljack + Skullmining equipped And via some rare hack rewards on "hack this" missions

Where did you read that?

XCOM 1 did no such thing and I doubt they would changed it for XCOM 2.

In the game files If you are curious check the mod out that removes this.

That said Veteran is hard enough imo.

This sequel is incredibly unforgiving. First they hold your hand so tightly you're just doing whatever you're told and then without warning they just let you go. I simply got battered with priority missions literally for hours, so much I couldn't even get a breather and just upgrade some weapons and armor or even build facilities. Apart from countries leaving you, XCOM1 was a lot less hardcore and more laid back.

I'm also very annoyed with the breaks between each character's turn. Why the pause of like 4-5 seconds after each fucking miss?

Also, I think it's lame that the enemy always gets a free "getting to cover" turn every time you get within their range. XCOM1 had this too afaik but somehow in that game the enemy didn't butcher your entire squad if you didn't do everything perfectly.

PS: I could swear there's a hidden -10% Aim for the player...

They only hold your hand initially if you enable the tutorial, which is understandable since they're trying to teach you how to play.

For the pause issue after each miss, I think it has to do with poor graphics performance, as it went away for me after I turned down AA, AO and depth of field.

And finally, maybe try dropping the difficulty? Its been a while since Ive played vanilla EU/EW but I get the feeling Xcom2 is a bit tougher.

I had it on the second difficulty, but I turned it to the easiest. The annoyences -- all those goddamn misses and overall bad rolls! -- weren't worth it. After turning down the difficulty, I think the hit percentages stayed the same but I could swear that I hit way more often and the overal "Bethesda kinda [LUCK]" seems to no longer be on the enemy's side.

For my play style, the easiest setting feels most balanced... oddly enough.

Hit chance is only showing you the real value on Classic Anything below that, you get hit bonus, Veteran 10% afaik, easy 25% afaik and oh yeah.. enemies get negative bonus obviously, only on Classic it's "all fair and square" and that is really brutally difficult.

That is a ton of XCOM 2, but damn its sure is good.

Damn buggy, too. Tutorial won't complete for me, just crashes to desktop. I turned it off and was able to get to the base, but there's still bugs and performance problems. Loading a mission takes a while. Alien Activity will sit there for 5+ seconds before anything happens. This on a GTX 980 with an i7 and 24 gigs of memory. I may be waiting for the performance patch before I really play it because right now it's just painful to try to play.

Turn off Anti-Aliasing in the graphics options. It glitches and slows the game to a crazy level. No idea how that slipped through.

Also. I wonder how people like eRe4s3r manage to beat the timer missions(and everything else) so apparently easily. Because it would mean you ran a near perfect game. No one missed critical shots, no one got mind controlled and or panicked and screwed up.

Save scumming? Because I'm guessing that on ironman like I'm playing that is a bit harder to do. I've missed point blank 87% shots. I've had overwatch ambushes where NO ONE hits anything even though all of my squad fired. I've had soldiers shot through high cover. Of course I've also seen the aliens mess up perfect shots but still...either that is some exaggeration or you just reloaded until it came out perfect.

I'm not judging you for save scumming if you did btw, but I just don't get how you ran such a perfect game. You're essentially saying nothing went wrong.

33 missions and only 9 flawless A lot went wrong. But yeah, I played on Veteran and save-scummed liberally in the sense that I went back turns, sometimes I restarted entire missions from campaign screen (when I notice that my squad selection was stupid ,p). But before you say "whaaaa.. how could you" remember that XCOM 2 has a fixed seed that does not change after a reload. A miss is a miss, when I see that happen I just hunker down or re-position, or go back 2 or more turns and change my entire tactic if it leads to a squad wipe (since that is really game-over). Saved my ass dozens of times. Knowing what enemies tend to do is vital though. Overwatch on elite lancers and heavily armored enemies (instead of triggering them with a run and gun ranger that then just hunkers down) is nearly always a REALLY bad idea.

Also I used battle scanners, Aid protocol, restoration protocol (cures panic) and all that jazz to the extreme. I often ran with 2 specialists as well, since combat protocol on upgraded gremlins does, and that is no typo, 10-11 dmg on robotics, which is (usually) 1 hit kill on super heavy turrets..) not to mention the AID protocol gives you 40+ defense (and later overwatch trigger fire with aim bonus) tons of missions I only won because my ranger had reaction shots and defense (and blade-master ,p) and once sniper gets SERIAL + 120 aim the game goes into easy mode.

Point being, I had a good run with some liberal reloading, but I never save scummed a single action (because that's not possible), it was difficult as fuck. Would actually not suggest playing on Veteran first time... from the stuff I saw on live streams I can assure you that I had some insane luck though. Something I didn't even know until I saw it in another vid is that collaborators in the population can betray you and give away your concealment, if you don't reload when that happens it could definitely be game-over right there...

But perhaps you are just a super-genius?!? Congrats on beating it, in seriousness! I'm waiting for a few patches before I try it. Also, good to talk to you again eRe4s3r. My convincing you to play FF13-2 is still something that makes me all happy inside! Best wishes!

Hehe I still enjoy FF13-2 every now and then.. and I got Lighting Returns too, I found that substantially less good (though I beat it) ^^

You should wait for patches ,P some of the animation glitches and issues are aggravating, best was when one of the "Viper" enemies "Bound" my soldier, except he has an ability that grants him melee attack when enemy attacks him, so he got dragged towards the viper, the viper binds him, and he slashes it to pieces.. except now for the entire mission he was in the "bound" animation state since the game could not cope with viper being killed by the same guy it's binding... which looked.. very very weird.

Also encountered a few instances where camera would just flat out get utterly confused (with action cam off!) showing me some dark place beneath the map while I had no idea how the reaction shots turned out, or enemies just running through a full overwatch phase, literally running with HP and everything, then a few seconds later it "updates" and they all die in cover.. no crashes and this game, it needs to sit on your SSD, or you get insane load times.

I also need to mention this, but that end-game timer.. you better hope you did your sacrifices to RNGESUS... because that RNG with the dark events can UTTERLY mess with you in the beginning of the game.

I've done four timer missions and none of them were difficult. The timer only even came into play on the very first one, where my lameass rookies were struggling to kill anything. Maybe it will be an issue later on if/when maps get larger.

And you're an idiot if you buy/bought xcom from Steam. It's still 46 on GMG for NA users, and no doubt cheaper still elsewhere and for other regions.

Timers never become an issue Finished all timer missions with 2+ turns to spare, and I did not particularly rush ever (Beat the game on Veteran - 28 hours, 30 missions)

Given that I still run an Phenom II X6 ...

Power and thermal efficiency (where is that fan-less I7 design ...) would be hugely welcome here.... but GPU's certainly should not focus on that. To run VR at 120fps in modern engines you need essentially a beast of a GPU that hasn't even been designed yet. And CPU *IS* a factor for that, since 120fps means that the main loop runs 120 times a second as well, otherwise you have simulation lag, which would be even worse than just visual delay.

The doom clock can be very effectively held back from what I experienced so far... 16 hours in it's at 4 bars... you can focus down the end-goal but it doesn't seem very smart to do that, since you can not do research while you do that. So you have to balance that vs research vs missions and vs squad health. Gravely wounded soldiers are around 2 to 4 weeks out. And this hampers your ability severly, higher ranked soldiers are extremely powerful (though I think you could win every mission with a rookie squad (that has full tech armor and plasma) too, you just need to savescum a ton)

Im playing "semi-iron man" mode for my first play through. I only load when I seriously mess up and am in danger of failing a mission. Wounded soldiers and even an occasional soldier loss Im fine with, I do a lot of rotations so that I can man at least two full squads at all times.

You will reconsider that stance on the Avenger Defense mission 37+ kills.. 6 injured ^^ The hardest mission in the game

So yeah, I beat the game btw, 28 hours on Veteran. The end fight was.. let's just say, special. Too bad there is so little real story.. it would be nice to learn a bit more about the actual aliens.

Hrm, that's a shame, I'm on my third playthrough right now. Oh well, not every game is going to be great for everybody.

Luckily we're in a bit of a RPG rich environment right now, and I think the various companies made enough off of the current crop that all the studios realize there is a real RPG market out there.

Well yeah, nothing to be gained by being angry or anything, plenty of great RPG's PoE was great first time, but couldn't really stomach these combat mechanics a second time...

News Comments > Diablo III Season Rebirth Reminder
4. Re: Diablo III Season Rebirth Reminder Feb 3, 2016, 19:34 eRe4s3r

For me, the biggest issue is that the game lacks any sort of meta progression once you hit item quality density (ie, mostly all good sets and drops / rings and jewels for your fav char, for me that's WD). There isn't a big war in the background that is for my "group" or for my SOLO chars only where anything I do might have a point, there isn't meta progression in the various camps, there is no way to expand them or mount an ever increasing war against demonic forces. There are no overarching events, no dynamic happenings, nothing new or fresh. The game world feels, the more I play in it, completely lifeless and stale. And these newer features made this feeling worse, much much worse.

What Blizzard did with the adventures and rifts is what is worse, because essentially they made the questing and exploration a menu that you click linearly through and you gain a fixed reward that never changes much. (Ok, it's a good reward on T10, but still, utterly pointless if you are fully equipped and cheese T10 SOLO).

Rifts offer nearly no challenge, since they are always the same (and yeah, big fucking woohoo when bosses in rifts die within 20 seconds and drop 1 or 2 decent things... and greater rifts only give you tiny percentage increases after a certain point (specifically after rift level 40)

It's come to the point where I think that this game has the opposite of a content problem. Yeah they add new areas and monsters every now and then, but what they aren't doing is add new gameplay within those zones. New item qualities beyond legendary and set, or simply put, something that feels fresh and new.

Kanais Cube is also kinda limited and once you get your class-specific "uber" items slotted (you likely know what I mean with that) there isn't much reason to touch it. What is imo even worse, is that at least for WD there are very specific items that are just FLAT OUT BETTER than anything else you could ever slot there.

At this point it has to be said, what this game needs is not new patches, it's a new expansion that brings us closer to the lore (Lilith, Nephalem etc.) and gives us some kind of dynamic area where we can do stuff that somehow has a progression beyond loot. Or maybe progression with loot (we give it to our camp, they get stuff from it)

And what I would also like is some way to fuse items in a companion beasts that you then sent to war or whatever. So that all those loots you find may have an actual point still.

The real question is whether after XCOM2 and it's supposed awesome mod support, Xenonauts 2 will not be made completely moot (if modders implement those "new" ideas straight into XCOM2 I mean)

Especially since this is gonna be 3D
