What a shame we're still living in the 1990s, where reviews are indelibly printed to paper and can't be easily updated before they are disseminated to the audience at large.

Oh wait...

Ubisoft changes the product after the fact? Take down the review, put up a new one. And update the score to reflect this deceptive behavior.

Damn, I first read this as being an enhanced edition for "Nocturne", the 1999 action-horror game released by Terminal Reality. I'm usually against remakes and remasters, but in the case of that game I'd make an exception. I'd love to play that game again with updated visuals and various QOL improvements (especially with the controls)

As much as I've enjoyed Telltale games, I wish they'd give up on the episodic series. I'd rather a single, longer game with a more cohesive storythan having it broken up into five episodes that constantly need to set the scene before moving on with the narrative. It was a neat idea in 2007 but it is tired and overdone in 2023.

In addition to this exciting news about how Electronic Arts is producing yet another sequel, please also be aware that the sun remains bright, water is still wet, and that bears continue to defecate in the woods.

Oh good. Just click on the link of some random email I receive. Good advice, Ubisoft. I'm sure that won't be abused by hackers.

Came to say just this.

How is this even up for "consideration"? Are we really so worried about a Nazi's feelings? Ban them already. It's shouldn't be a question of "should we?" but "how fast can it be done?"

I mean, I loved these games back in the day... but worth $9USD each they are not. Despite intending to buy them as soon as they were released (and going through Blue's affiliate link), now I think I'll just wait until they're on sale.

Or maybe I'll just see if the disk images I made of the originals are still viable. I know I have them stashed away somewhere...

So, not a cat-game crossed with Dark Souls mechanics like I first thought? What a waste of a good title. ;-P

Publishers don't see it that way. They don't want you still playing their old games that you bought twenty years ago. They want you to buy the new hotness for $70, preferably the 'new hotness' that bleeds you dry with MTX / DLC. Then you need to move on to the newer hotness and give them another $70. Anything that lets you keep playing an old game is a detriment to their bottom line. Publishers, if they could get away with it, would make games like DIVX; play once, then buy again. The only reason they don't is that's still (barely) the one thing that will get gamers upset enough to boycott them.

Fighting against a child-safety law; that's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how that pays off for them.

I mean, the law itself may be over-reaching but regardless, fighting against it isn't going to do Big Tech's image - already very tarnished and under regulatory scrutiny around the world - any good.

I don't care if the metaverse is built by Zuckerberg or Sweeney or Obama, I'm not interested. I don't need a giant virtual world to connect my real life job to my real life hobbies, or to connect my game of "Witcher 3" to "Star Wars Squadrons". I'm not looking to live in the world of "Ready Player One." The metaverse - regardless of who is creating it - is a gimmicky solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

I quite enjoyed Soma; it was wonderfully atmospheric. Still, - like too many games of its genre - it doesn't stand up well in regards to replayability. And the whole "can't even look at the monsters - much less fight them - without going mad" mechanic is getting a bit long in the tooth. So I'm on the fence with Amnesia: The Bunker. I think I'll just wait for it to hit Steam before I even consider buying it. By then there will be enough reviews (and bug fixes) to determine whether or not I would be getting a game worth playing .

blockchain metaverse game

Does anyone here (all of us geeks) know what that actually means? I do not, and will be sending a squad of inquisitors to the relevant sites to discern the truth. Cthulhu

Well, "metaverse" implies a massive-multiplayer online 'experience' (not necessarily a game), possibly with VR. The blockchain bit implies you can buy and sell digital items, which may or may not be created by other users. So it could be anything from Diablo 2 with RealAuctionHouse to Roblox to, yes, Second Life.

None of which require the added overhead and general scumminess of a blockchain, but you know how it is: grifters gotta grift.

I suspect that - except for a tiny population of extremely dedicated fans (who will desperately try to convince everyone about how this game is the greatest thing since sliced bread so they can get new sucker^h^h^h^h^h players to buy their useless digital wares) - the game will be largely ignored by gamers at large and sink like a stone.

While I learned cursive, I almost never use it. I never saw the advantage; I always wrote faster using block-text than I did cursive (the latter not having all those superfluous loops and links probably has something to do with that) and I always found block text to be more legible. I think it looks nicer too; I always thought cursive text to be rather unsightly (but, again, maybe that's just because I hate the waste of all those needless loops).

Well, I'm sure SquareEnix will make the server-side code and content freely available to its customers so that people who paid for the product can continue to play it. Because otherwise it would be unfairly penalizing its customers, and no video-game publisher would ever do anything like that. Gamers just wouldn't stand for that sort of thing!

Right? Right?!?
