Finished this game on the PS4. The package delivery is just a mechanism to get you involved with the story, and can lead to all the sub-quests to building up the infrastructure of America. It's a shame you can't really show more without having spoilers. the protagonist just wants to be left alone to his own devices but the f'ed up world will not let him. The game is quite an experience, and the story is super sci-fi. Best game ever? No. However, I'm glad I played it and it was an awesome experience.

I love this game, but my problem is they keep releasing new places, and cool features...but there are so many bugs with the BASICS and network code. Simple things like the space map to choose where you want to go flakes out almost all the time. Stuff as simple as that!

For a time there, I was enjoying watching the development, and logging in to see what was new. At this point, the single player game is still not available for normal backers. the PU needs to get their server code worked out because they can only handle about 50 players, and they continue to expand the universe, which while awesome, is useless for only 50 at a time covering the whole place. They are still working on it, but they need to concentrate on that, imho. The idea is they will have dynamic servers handling each section of the universe to have one consistent PU... but we'll see.

For all the millions of words argued about this game so far, nobody ever actually talks about the state of gameplay in it. Is it an empty solo place? Are there people, quests, enemies, planets, etc. yet even in beta form? What is coming soon and is it actually worth trying the demos now? I suppose I could install it myself and see, but that's work others could do and just tell me.

Squadron42 is the single player game coming out. As they create tech for it, they drop it into the persistent universe called Star Citizen. So, they can't finish SC until they finish S42, and they already stated since the beginning S42 is their top priority. SC was also a reach goal, to boot.

To answer your question, SC is just slowly growing as the tech is added. New planets. Caves, mining, etc. Mission givers, pirates, etc.. Even an overhaul of the flight model. The pace over the past year has really sped up. At this point it is a playground for people to space play in.

While being a genius can be debatable, he is definitely someone who is passionate about what he is doing, and spends all his waking time doing it.
I've met and seen a lot of people with that same quality, but rarely as successful as John, so there must be something else. If he was only successful at id, then we could say it was the team there. However, he continues to be successful at all his ventures, so it sounds more like a nod to being a genius. I still like to think of him as a "Passionate Intelligent".

Man, this game looks awful from a gameplay standpoint. You're literally just the UPS guy, with some very rudimentary other game mechanics.

Will we at least get random naked people answering the doors?

You must be new here.

I'll be shocked if Squadron 42 comes out next year.

Yeah, that was my joke.

I'm kind of on the fence if I am defending this game or not. The deal with SC is as they make game systems and tech for Squadron 42, they are also trowing it into this SC persistent universe. They have said repeatedly that SC is not their focus at the moment, SQ42 always being their main goal.

SC "should" be seen as a bonus. Something to play while waiting for SQ42. It's become more than that since they have not released much info, or demos, of SQ42, though.

ok ok, people...let's calm down. We all know by now that "Squadron 42" is the single player game coming out next year. "Star Citizen" is the multiplayer part that has no release date. That's right, it doesn't have a release date, so no need to point any fingers.

People who seem to dismiss copyrights or patents are usually the ones who have never had an original product, or thought, of their own. After you pour years of your energy and time into something, you will understand the need for them. Of course they are abused, but anything as analog as a thought is hard to cover perfectly.

Agreed. Lot's of potential, or are those finished features?
Building bases and ships. Battle. Economy/shops.
I think if all you have is just the space base, the scenery will get boring. Minecraft has blocks, but it emulates a bunch of biomes and scenarios (houses, caves, etc). This looks all metal. Perhaps planetside landing eventually?

It's just odd to see a re-release of this game. Curious if the time/money spent to do this will be recooped, but Sony wouldn't have done it if there wasn't some sort of profit or reason, I guess.

Dude. Maybe read the comments thread before making uninformed comments?

Sony has nothing to do with this. The Quantic Dream games Heavy Rain, Detroit Become Human and Beyond Two Souls will be brought to PC by Epic and Quantic Dream. The partnership between Sony and Quantic that led to these games originally being PS exclusives has ended.

“We are so grateful for twelve fantastic years of collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and all they have allowed us to create and produce,” said Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière. “With this new partnership with Epic, we can now expand our products to a wider fan base and allow PC players to enjoy our titles.”

More here.

It's just nice that Sony is collaborating with them on this release, is all I am saying.

This game was pretty fun 9 years ago. The graphics were top notch for its time, and style was relevant. Games have further evolved so much, and this game was one of those steps. It's just odd to see a re-release of this game. Curious if the time/money spent to do this will be recooped, but Sony wouldn't have done it if there wasn't some sort of profit or reason, I guess.

As one who got one ending, and started toward several others, I would suggest using your free time playing something else. There is just so much that is better now.

Mega64 summed up this game play really well:

Haven't read the article because of the pay-wall, but I am guessing the 50k comes from the subscribers, and donations, streamers get during their streams? I don't think EA is paying them 50k to advertise...they barely pay their employees anything.

One thing I haven't seen mention is that "Star Citizen" is the online portion and is just the collection of things that is going into the single player game, which has all the focus right now. They make tech for Squadron42, and then push it into the online part, which you see here. They've pushed so much into the online part, they are now having to focus on real multiplayer servers.

They have stated many times they plan to do VR, but haven't gotten to it yet.

For backers, the fun part of this game is watching the development, at least to me. There are so many game systems they are putting into place between ships, fps, planets, etc. This game is WAY more complex than ED. At least the last time I played ED, I couldn't storm out the back of a ship with my friends, and invade an underground bunker...

I agree... it is a strange mixture just to go after a market.

Having watched a fair share of Doraemon with my kids, I can say the series really has nothing to do with this subject matter. Perhaps if there was some sort of adventure, or problem solving element, maybe. But just grinding and building, no...
