News Comments > Dean Hall's Stationeers Revealed
5. Re: Dean Hall's Stationeers Revealed Mar 30, 2017, 14:03 Bopper

So can someone give an objective account of what happened with DayZ? Dean Hall made the mod when working with Arma guys, then spun it off into an early access project that never got finished? Now he has a new studio? Or same studio but working on a new game? Couldn't find this with wikipedia search and am lazy.

3. Re: WoW Scaling Changes Mar 29, 2017, 13:28 Bopper

Sounds similar to the scaling in some single player games, i.e. Fallout/Elder Scrolls series but I always liked it when having better gear allowed you to wreck most enemies, it really gave a nice sense of progression in your character's power.

He defiantly should not of used that their.

More on point, there were a lot of things I liked about the game when it came out and loved the setting; it might be worth another spin.

I hope they go for something totally different now that their sales are dipping.

Non-linear campaign, maybe some tactical squad combat with orders, choices that matter, etc.

I still enjoy the CoD games as mindless 6 hour campaigns but I haven't payed actual money for a CoD game since Modern Warfare 2.

News Comments > Mass Effect: Andromeda Launches
26. Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda Launches Mar 21, 2017, 13:55 Bopper

I was VERY letdown by the combat in the beginning. I am playing on hardcore so if I attempted to do anything other than hunker behind cover I would die very quickly. This led me to a strategy where I hide behind the same cover and pick off enemies with headshots.

I remember the ambush you are talking about. I ended up waiting inside one of the buildings, letting the enemies come to me one after another and headshotting them from behind a desk. It felt really artificial and I felt like I was cheesing the whole system. It would have been nice to be forced to mix it up, i.e. if they threw grenades or rushed my position, forcing me to regroup but it didn't happen.

The fiend was the saddest part, he happily parked his ass on the ground while I simply took pot shots at his head from the roof. I would move forward, headshot him, move back. He would shoot back with the acid projectile but he would always hit the roof, rendering the attack/threat completely inconsequential. While I did this I ordered my NPC buddy to attack him which resulted in her standing 6 feet away from it and do...nothing. She would just stare at it and the fiend was perfectly content trying to shoot me (or rather, attempt to shoot me) while there was a perfectly good target in front of him.

I hope this was a fluke or just bad luck with the AI/encounter. I might have to try upping it to the highest difficulty; your encounter sounded a lot more epic.

Still, it was fun

News Comments > Mass Effect: Andromeda Launches
11. Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda Launches Mar 21, 2017, 11:39 Bopper

Played about 15 hours so far, 10 on trial, 5 via VPN to unlock early.

The game isn't as good as the original series but still competent. It is very much like DA:I but so far the quests are a bit more compelling as are the environments, then again I was a little let down with DA:I so that is not saying much.

The animations are not as bad as people say, there are only a couple of characters (so far) that are distracting.

The game is pretty buggy but all issues encountered so far are minor/cosmetic but they are quite plentiful. Some examples:

- Ambient dialogue in places where there are no people.
- Random NPC in a drunken state standing in a random place at an outpost (totally out of context)
- Two NPC's stuck in a half second animation of shaking hands in a loop, one of which I can stand inside of.
- NPC dialogue referring to a character I have not met yet.
- Dodgy companion AI at times.
- One quest allowed me to complete a step twice.

One major bug:

- Door did not open in main path quest, forced me to reload.

Annoyances:

- UI is clunky/convoluted. Made for consoles (yep playing on PC9. This is something that should be patched as it is quite easy to do.
- Can't equip items right away (not even consumables that you pick up and possibly need) which is quite dumb.
- Limited companion customisation, no equipment for them.

Good stuff:

- Some decent characters/writing (although sometimes the writing is a bit cringe/wtf).
- Nice production design of environments, props, etc. (when they are not buggy).
- Some interesting side quests and progression systems.
- Driving the buggy is quite fun (I actually liked the Mako from ME1 :P)
- Fun combat, it is quite streamlined and missing the RPG-ness of the first ME but cranking up the difficulty helps.
- Exploration can be fun, only seen the first real planet though.
- The scanner is a mixed bag. Sometimes scanning is fun/feels relevant, sometimes it feels like busywork.
- Runs well but I have a high-end pc.

In summary: rough, not as good as ME trilogy, some bright moments to be had, if you are at all unsure wait for patches and a sale. The first 5 hours was quite discouraging but the game gets better.

11. Re: Mafia III Released Oct 8, 2016, 04:09 Bopper

I was disappointed at first that the focus wasn't on the Italians but they are still featured prominently. I actually love the setting and the exposure to all the different cultures as well as the southern vibe.

The game runs well for me despite the 30 FPS lock. I have had one crash and a few spots when the game locked up for 10 seconds or so but other than that it is fine.

25. Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Season Pass Details Aug 23, 2016, 07:00 Bopper

I remember when you could get free stuff in games through mods and cheat codes instead of paid DLC

I don't even want any of the crap that came with the pre-order, it just wrecks the balance of the game. I will see if I can somehow get rid of my extra cash so I can start fresh.

I hope the DLC will be good.

11. Re: Battleborn Adding Microtransactions Jun 15, 2016, 04:13 Bopper

Battleborn is a competent game, just not worth the asking price in this environment of F2P moba's. It will go F2P within 6 months at which point it will be well worth a look.

The game might be great but the market is just too saturated. My prediction is Battleborn will go F2P within 6 months and within 2 years both of these games + Lawbreakers will have been shut off.

I hope I am wrong and will not judge until I play this when it is actually free.

I wish I could pay the US price for this, I think 650 with taxes added. That's like 520 euros? Here in Finland I would not be surprised to see this card start at 900 euros i.e 1100 dollars.

Not sure why the amount of gore is an issue. Shouldn't the idea of shooting and killing stuff already be where you draw the line for mature content?

The game is awesome but there is still a pretty bad bug concerning bloated save files causing load times to increase from 4 seconds to 40+ seconds which can ruin the game.

To avoid it, do not use the chanter ability that causes your party members to lay frost traps. If you are suffering from long load times, you need to run a custom script that cleans your save files of the redundant trap positions.

You can find the fix on reddit.

News Comments > The Elder Scrolls Online Dropping Subscriptions in March
9. Re: The Elder Scrolls Online Dropping Subscriptions in March Jan 21, 2015, 13:23 Bopper

People are acting like this means the game is a failure and that this is some big "told you so" moment. This is pretty standard practice now not just for MMO but for other online games. Zenimax Online already prepared for this right from launch.

Once you no longer generate anymore revenue from "premium" customers, you re-release the game as F2P to increase your user-base. If done well, it can be a positive thing both for old users who want to return and those playing now that would like a more active community.

SWTOR has generated a healthy revenue and maintained a good user-base since going F2P. I just hope they find a way to reward those that purchased the game at premium.

Counter-Strike Online is one of the highest grossing F2P pc games in the world. Also check out "Crossfire". They are both modded versions of the original CS and are both operated by Nexon and huge in South Korea.
