These sales are great for catching up on the 2-3 years of gaming I missed. Got a lot in the Thanksgiving sale and now time to get the rest. Dark Souls 2 and 3, the more recent isometric RPGs, Vanquish and maybe Quantum Break? Gonna watch a bit of that one on the 'tube.

You say "online experiences", I hear "continual revenue stream".

Indeed. And they will justify it by quoting expenses and return on said advances not being adequate, but a lot of that is their own silly expectations.

Well that is their problem and not ours, I just play the games. Why do I really care if they made a calculated mistake in marketing, which I don't really know?

You should care because what succeeds decides what comes out. Stuff like Dishonored and Prey doesn't sell, executives get the idea no one wants more games like that (even if it's the publisher's fault and people do).

The character is a literal mary sue, that gains the ability to do super things without having to put in the effort to get there.

Like Anakin in TPM and Luke in ANH. That's how it works with people who are very "strong in the force." This argument about "mary sue" stuff is like a big glowing red neon sign that screams reddit red pill weirdo.

I wish I was you, Blue. When Disney announced they were making new ones I had the wife watch the originals to prepare for escorting me and she found them "boring" and "childish." She was happy the new main hero was a girl though, a good role model for young girls.

It's funny how us 80's kids seem to think it was the best of times but everyone I know who was an adult back then thinks it was a terrible decade.

Linear roller-coaster fits Star Wars more than most IPs, honestly. People would have ate up a 10 hour game of that sort with pretty graphics and a Chewie cameo or whatever.

I wish they just let the exact same team that did Dead Space 2 do whatever they wanted, but hey... life isn't fair.

In most cases it isn't fraud, we need to accept capitalism and how it works, how growth is needed, that is our world. We as consumers still have a choice to buy or not and in almost all cases that is good enough for me. The good news, there are 1000's of games out there, we sometimes act if there are a precious few. If games came to a production halt today, I already have enough. It's like I'm buying rainy day games for a rainy day that never comes, the common theme of backlogs make it seem I'm far from alone.

I don't get the whole "barely any singleplayer games being made!" narrative at all. There's tons of them, so many that one could drown even if he never touched a multiplayer title. I think most of that complaining comes from people with... let's be generous and say higher standards of what a PC version should be for a mainstream title. They disqualify perfectly enjoyable games because they have a cover system or only 4 guns at once or whatever. Been going on for a decade now.

They're nothing at all like the Metal Gear games (or at least the Playstation ones I played back in the day). Not every game with swords and sorcery is a Gauntlet clone either.

I only played Human Revolution but I loved it. One of the very few modern games I felt lived up to its roots. Yes there were some changes made to mainstream it a bit, but nothing too bad. I hope Mankind Divided and Thief are games I can say the same thing about, now that I've got an upgraded PC to play them with.

Witcher 3 GOTY for $20 is a nice coincidence for me. Just got back into gaming and upgraded my rig and that game was on the top of my want list. Easy purchase.

EA ruined a perfectly good niche game that could have become a regular earner, instead they brought down the ENTIRE deadspace IP. And no doubt the managers at EA got fat checks for that.

None of these companies want solid earners anymore, same with movie studios. They want huge hits or nothing. Why make 10 million back from a 5 million budget when you can make 1 billion back from a 200 million budget? Right or wrong we're stuck with them having this mindset.

I don't have any problems with people having opinions on things, but using the term "Social Justice Warrior" as an insult immediately puts you in the category of "people who think the idea of women being treated as equals is bullshit" and, frankly, beneath the time worthy of a conversation.

In the beginning "social justice warrior" was a way to mock people who took it way too seriously and never shut up about it. I used the term a good bit back then when it seemed like every other game article was a virtue signal. Now though "SJW" is a term applied to anyone left of George Wallace, which is asinine. Just another example of how extremely divided the country/world is right now.

Unlike Call of Duty the game should be <$10 at some point, and fan servicey campaign will be worth it to me then, linear and scripted or not. In the meantime no interest.
