Just use VPN and be done with these assholes

VPN has screwed people over tons of times on Steam that I have read. If they find out they'll mess your account up. GOG likely doesn't care at all though.

Yeah I get what you're saying, what I wanted to add to that was that most of the complaints raised here would be moot if MS just made their store work like Origin, or Steam or GOG or whatever.

Other than the Win10 requirement (which Steam is up to Win7, so not way off) it's not much different. Well, the Windows store has a lot more crap on it and you have to search for what you want, which is a bummer, but luckily there aren't many "real" games on there anyway. If they keep putting everything Xbox on PC they do need to eventually make that store more accessible. People seem to finally be accepting the idea of each big publisher having its own store, so I don't think MS needs to back off on it.

I haven't made a purchase there yet but Gears of War 4 for $20 is tempting right now, and I am sure I will buy the next Halo (or even better the Halo collection) there if they release it.

I like the way that this creates paradoxes for certain games, like Fallout 3, that don't run properly with Windows 7+

Fallout 3 runs fine on Win7+, that's a ghost story. In any event I do agree it's odd to have zero legacy support at all when they sell a lot of old games. They should have a legacy mode.

I'm a singleplayer only guy so laaaaaaaame, but honestly there's plenty of games for me out there so whatever. Glad people interested in this concept will have a game to play that excites them.

Hey hey hey hey hey I love Goldeneye, and Tomorrow Never Dies is good fun. The Craig movies have been mostly bland since Casino Royale in my opinion, despite looking amazing visually. So let's be careful with this "bland Brosnan era" stuff!!!

I just really want a new Bond with a different vibe at this point, more than anything.

Waiting for a Platinum Edition with all DLCs included.

Yeah the cost of the EE this time is pretty out there, all expansions included. Even with prior EEs I waited until they hit $10 or less, so the idea of paying $20 for NWN and another $10 for this, plus $5 each for others... nooooope.

As long as the loot is meaningful and you have a nice, constant progression, I quite enjoy the addition of loot.

I enjoy progression, just in other areas. Mostly exploration (checking off new levels or locations), character enhancement (making it to X level and getting that sneak boost), etc. Finding new guns and endlessly comparing said guns to other guns to figure out which is better just slogs a game down for me. ESPECIALLY if there's a carry limit or whatever. Basically the more Diablo-like something is the more I hate it. Borderlands was Diablo as a shooter.

I can deal with loot much more in something like a Fallout game.

AND OF COURSE COLLECTING LOOT!!!

I get that I'm in the minority of gaming humanity obviously, but nothing turns me OFF more than that shit. Borderlands sounded like the best thing ever until I discovered how loot focused it was. Blah.

Is there an enhanced game addon or hack to make the game even better?

There's a DX10 exe launcher by the same guy who did one for Deux Ex. Seems to make the game feel and look a bit smoother. Other than that nothing like a source port or whatever.

Pshhh, "no true gamer" has anything more going on 20 years later. School and schoolwork were mandatory for me back when this came out, now I have *more* time! #ForeverAloneAndSpottilyEmployed

Haha. I have a wife but no kids yet. God knows how I'll find time to game once those kids come along, assuming they do, because I already feel like it takes forever to finish something and big open RPGs take up months of my gaming time.

Granted I watch a lot of movies too.

Hell, it's been 20 years since I played this! Gonna install and play through it again, can't remember a damn thing about the single player so it should be all new to me again! I think I remember it was a VERY long game and the AI was actually pretty damn good too? You can even play bot matches and you'll see some flashes of how Unreal Tournament came to be.

I know people associate length with value, but I find most of those old shooters a little too long today. Pacing is an issue, they kind of drag on. Plus we've all got more limited time as we age.

Oh god no...just no.

Vanilla WW2 please.

Why are people so resistant to cool shit? I'd love a sci-fi or steampunk Battlefield but the majority always seem to want the same old real settings. Meh. I asked Josh Sawyer on his blog thing long ago why all planets and fantasy settings just look like Earth and his response was "most consumers prefer realistic Earth-like settings." So weird to me.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll end up being WW2 since that's what sells. The "new setting" talk surely just meant compared to the last few.

I will need to win the lottery or something, to be able to quit my job and have enough time to play all of these various titles though.

I've been out of work for a few years due to disability and STILL can't finish games half the time. The time just vanishes.

Wonder if they have the balls to do a Bioshock in another new setting or if they'll run back to Rapture with their tail between their legs.

I'm fairly sure I read that they had several 'packages' that gave extra stuff? Had those not gone on sale yet?

If not, fair enough, I was wrong.

Cosmetic optional purchases for a stated pre-Alpha game is very much a "if you bought 'em that's your problem" area for me. Also I doubt they were planning to make much there, the release was clearly more about attracting investor interest (which they obviously failed to do).

CliffyB brought us the Unreal series, and for older gamers Jazz Jackrabbit. The guy didn't push mediocre shit. Unreal is one of my favorite games of all time.

The Gears of War games that he had influence over are very good titles, and to say otherwise is just to be a blind master race tool. You might not agree with his decision to abandon the platform, but his words aren't without merit -- DRM free games are the extreme exception nowadays and despite repeatedly bleating about DRM being the devil and to boycott companies that use it, Steam and other digital platforms have taken over.

And for those of you that mourn the single player experience? The decline there is also partly due to piracy (and is why always-on DRM is here to stay).

You can hate him all the same, but his resume stands as one of the strongest in the industry. Even Lawbreakers was a decent game, just not good enough to compete with Overwatch and a changing landscape of what the majority of gamers want.

Couldn't like this post more, but people don't like reading truth when it conflicts with emotion.

Piracy was a crisis when Gears first came out, and is still a (lesser) crisis today. Console focused games were seen as one response to this, and Cliffy just said the honest facts of the time. The rise of online-focused games is just as much a response to piracy as DRM and consoles were as well, and is something else people complain about. Yet people continuously act like piracy is no big deal and no developer should ever complain about it, then ostracize those who do.

id is surely making Doom 2, considering how well the original went over.

Borderlands 3 will once again curb stomp this franchise.

Very different games IMO. Borderlands was all about loot, coop and mindless shooting. RAGE was more a traditional FPS with RPG-like hub areas. I didn't like Borderlands much at all (I hate loot games and never play online) but I liked RAGE.

Considering how huge the battle royale thing is their numbers must have been really bad for them not to find a few investors for Radical Heights.

i played a pre-release reviewer's build starting last month for the site I write for and after a 50 hour playthrough I only experienced a very minor bug with a NPC who was supposed to be "gone" suddenly appearing on my ship and bringing up old dialog and a CTD once while exiting the game. Nothing major. A few graphical glitches here and there but that's more of my fault for running year old nvidia drivers.

Overall, it's probably the most stable game they've launched. Which admittedly, doesn't mean much, but still.

I've honestly never had major bug issues with Obsidian games, which people always give me the stink eye for. I probably rarely play on release day though, I'm just not someone who chooses what to play based on newness. I did play New Vegas right away though and the only bugs I had were some enemies stuck in the ground.

Anyway, subjective experience is subjective. It's just a shame Obsidian is known as a bug factory when I personally have never experienced that.

Replaying PoE1 now, then I'll play something different, then PoE2. Looking forward to it!

How survival/crafting/online is this versus RPG/exploration/offline? The store page says you can play locally, which I assumes means no internet required?
