They also have massively scaled back their DRM which should please people here.

I think nothing short of free blow jobs from movie stars would please gamers here. Gamers seem perpetually disatisfied with everything.

As one of the few people who really enjoyed FC2, I'm looking forward to a 3rd one.

Do not want! Wake me when a CoD game comes out that isn't a rail shooter.

I'd kill for a good Kovacs game...

I'd kill for a good Kovacs game except if it's published by EA.

Ok, I'll concede that there have been AI improvements since Deus Ex, but I didn't think it was all that bad for it's time, and I don't think Half-Life's AI was that much better.

HL's AI was considerably better. Enemy troopers used squad tactics, flush you out with grenades, etc. In contrast, in DE they just strafe back and forth shooting.

Well, I disagree that the endings were terrible. I'm not sure what you expected besides short cinematics.

Longer cinematics. DE is a story driven game. It builds and builds and when you finally get to the very end, you get a brief minute long ending. But this is a gripe I have with games in general. Not enough emphasis is placed on good endings.

The endings were brief, yes, but they were still more meaningful than 90% of the endings you see today.

That's not saying much.

Pretty much, only a graphics whore would say that.

Uh, no. My main complaint is actually the combat mechanics and the AI. They suck balls, even compared to games that came out a couple years prior (i.e. HL). I realize the gameplay is not specifically combat-driven, but they could have improved that protion of the game design.

Also, IHMO, the game is overlong. Some later portions of the game seemed like filler, just to pad out the 40 hour game time. And the endings were terrible. If I play a story-driven game for 40+ hours, I want a decent ending that lasts more than a minute.

Am I the only one who thinks that DE is over-rated, while DE: IW is under-rated? Not that IW is better than DE, but I don't think DE has aged very well, and IW isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Took advantage of the CoD 4 sale. Wish I didn't. Way too scripted (like all CoD games). They should just call it "Rail Shooter 4". I was having way more fun with Far Cry 2.

Finally, CoD 4 drops to a reasonable price. Although now that I've been sucked in by Far Cry 2, do I really want another FPS right now?

Those country stats are pretty facinating and I wonder how they reflect differing cultural attitudes. South Korea near the bottom where software is viewed more as a public good, while socialist European countries near the top for example.

Makes perfect sense why they are doing this. Legacy cards 3+ years old that they don't manufacture anymore. They have to drop support at some point, Win 7 seems as good a time as any.

Given that they consider themselves to be console developers and have previously commented on the rate of piracy on PC copies, this statement actually makes a lot of sense.

There's just no sense catering to PC gamers.

I thought the "whoop-dee-doo" technology of DX11 was that it'd make stuff better without putting a bullet in Mr. Framerate's kidney.

I think the idea is that you get considerably more geometry detail at a fraction of the cost compared to without tessellation.

Did they do any improvements in the final game compared to the demo?

A better question is if they fixed the gazillion bugs the full game shipped with.

True but would you worry about sales you won't get or rather worry to get the sales you could get. Fact is you make money by selling things, not by running after thieves.

But there are still cost trade-offs to consider. If they spend $X developing for the PSP, that's $X they are not spending developing for another system where they could potentially get even more revenue. The idea is they want to maximize their profit generation from their available resources.

So if faced with developing for a system where the piracy rate is 40% versus another where it is 90%, all else being equal it makes sense to develop for the system with the lower piracy rate.
