The umbrella term VR (Virtual Reality) isn't very descriptive. What they should say is stereoscopic (offset 'points of view' for each eye.)

Says 180, but most HMD (head mounted displays) only show 110 degrees. So can you look 35 degrees to the right and left to see everything?

Also,if I get 5 percent stronger,and the world gets 3 percent stronger,,um,,,then I haven't gotten 5 percent stronger. 5-3=2
Indeed, 5% stronger than what?

Sounds similar to the scaling in some single player games, i.e. Fallout/Elder Scrolls series but I always liked it when having better gear allowed you to wreck most enemies, it really gave a nice sense of progression in your character's power.
Yea, when baddies in a zone get too easy, move on to more difficult zones with tougher enemies. How fast you go through the baddies was a good indication of your strength, this messes that up.

Even when cable modems first came out (1 to 10 mbps) 7ms ping was achievable. However to see a 7ms ping indicated you had to also have a 7ms video frametime (143 fps) as the games would only poll latency once per video frame, though issuing a ping command you could see the actual ping. I'm not sure why connections with low bandwidth (such as dialup) had high latency as it's theoretically possible to have low bandwidth and low latency. Maybe it had something to do with the switching speed of the phone company's network.

Ya they'd better have many servers spread out all over to yield as low latency as possible to all users.

Star Trek TOS remastered discs does give you the option for the special effects (original or remastered.) Changing the pixelation with a press of a key sounds like a good idea. Though you can always watch YouTube videos of the original pixelated version, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c36OmC5UbME

This appears to be the first download purchase version of the game, remastered or not. The lack of pixelation might reduce the nostalgia a tad though, I wonder if they'd have both versions accessible.
(BTW I can't stand the term 'digital download', like where are the 'analog downloads'?)
Did they also re-sample the audio at a higher bitrate?

Well even a trillion trillion bits per second won't fix latency. Bandwidth (mbps) is how much data gets there once it gets there, latency (ms) is how long it takes to get there.

I noticed that bandwidth has jumped by leaps and bounds over the years, but I can't say latency has changed much at all really, pretty much the same as it was 2 decades ago, at least with broadband connections like cable modems. We can really use some faster than light subspace communication! http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Subspace_communication

It's not just latency like in say multiplayer games that can be sort of be "smoothed over" using client-side prediction. Everything is lagged. Panning the screen in RTSs is lagged, moving a cursor is lagged, you name it, it is lagged. Even in single player games!

No problem. Another tell tale sign is the fact that it can run on smart TVs, which typically don't have beefy hardware to run 'involved' games locally.
Judging by the Netflix requirements

I suppose 5mbps would get HD using the same or similar codec Netflix uses.

An emulator runs the game code locally. PS Now appears to simply have a client send controller input, run the game code remotely, then send the resulting video back to you. The 5mbps requirement is a tell tale sign.

Not only do you have a big input to display latency, but it's also a bandwidth waste sending high res video data when there should be no need. Save that bandwidth for video services like YouTube and Netflix.

Why don't they just make an emulator for the PC?

VR mode should be 110 degrees horizontal FOV as both the rift and vive are 110.

Doubling the FOV wouldn't change the number of pixels rendered, though it would increase the amount of things visible at one time (more geometry, possibly more textures.) With no increase in FOV what is the purpose of having 2 panels? Starbreeze takes full advantage of 2 panels with the much wider FOV http://www.roadtovr.com/starvr-headset-hands-on-field-of-view-e3-2016/
