BT was my first RPG also. I love it to pieces, but it was outclassed by the later Ultima's and Gold Box games. I think EA was right when they didn't release another.

What made people love them, I think ultimately were their downfall. Too hard for novices and too intensive for casuals. The Might and Magic series was able to find a better mix of challenge and ease of use. Which is why it continued to succeed in the 90's.

I would call Advanced Wars an "arcade game".

People didn't stop playing videogames, they quit playing Atari. Arcades were in the beginning of their golden age, the Commodore 64 enjoyed over one billion dollars in sales. Top that off with a crushing recession (one that rivaled the one we had today) and you can see why 1983 was a rough year for any company (Atari) that was mismanaging their product.

This game has become like Shadowrun and Hellgate, where I am actively hoping it fails pretty hard.

In the past 12 months, I have went from total hype for this game to wanting it to bomb, badly. But it won't because it's a Bioware game and people will try by virtue of name alone.

Like anything that is successful, game devs will flood the market and erode sales to nothing if they don't keep evolving gameplay. Of course then, the game is not casual anymore. A catch 22.

Even the creator of Carnival Games (2k?) is already lamenting the absolute deluge of horrible titles on the Wii.

I love all the people commenting here that have no idea about what they are talking about. IGG is a Korean-based, FREE to play MMO company. They have solid gameplay (very heavy on the GRIND in later levels), shiny, cartoony graphics and try to appeal to both sexes.

They are not competing with WoW. They are competing with Ragnorak or Runescape.

Epic fail, yet managed to make $1 million since its public beta release.

Are you serious? Can you even contemplate the amount of man hours, hardware and broadband costs they have put into this thing?

They're going to need to sell a lot of virtual tchotchkes to even keep the thing going, let alone make a profit.

I meant "buy it" in a broader sense. That spreads across many Sony products .. like the choice to include UMD movies with the PSP, the Rollie and all thier other odd choices they do with some of their electronics.

I don't know anyone in the past 2 years that said they bought (or plan to) buy a PS3 because of Home or what it could offer. Judging by the reactions of existing userbase that have downloaded it, they aren't impressed either.

Home is the epitome of Sony thinking. "We will build and they will buy it" instead of, "What do our customers want"?

I can't believe a business model could fail where they give away tons of magazines for free and they had a website that was a cluttered, unreadable mess.

Amazing.

I think everyone is overlooking the fact that Turbine is looking to get into console space with an MMO product. With the disparity in costs of onlines services between the PS3/360 .. it makes sense to go with a micro-transaction route for their game.

Plus, with the rabid success of micro-trans on consoles, it makes more sense to do it there.

EA bashing is sooo 2004. They have been decent lately. Certainly leagues better than the other multi-platform companies (coughActivisioncough)

Maybe they should just buyout Valve and focus on Digital Distro. for profit and scale back their ambitions on HD games.

Harrison (former Sony guy) was brought aboard Atari and they have been kicking some ass lately (making quality decisions).

Hopefully, they are rewarded with good sales.

You guys should really give it a shot when they reinstate the 10 day free trial. It's a very solid MMO and the D&D ruleset gives you so much flexibility in character builds.

I started playing 6 weeks ago and am having a great time with it.

Alex St John proclaims the death of consoles in the near future: http://news.softpedia.com/news/The-PC-Is-the-Future-and-Consoles-are-Dead-81444.shtml

I like the guy. He coined the idea that "you can't pirate a community" and he is right. The hard part is building that community because people are a fickle bunch. Especially when their first impressions of your product is a load of spyware.

It's not great, but it's not bad. It plays more like an arcade game than it does a Fate-style diablo clone.
